Bowl Game: Questions for a First-Timer
Bought my first bowl tickets today! Its the first bowl game Michigan has gone to where I live in the state in which they are playing. Very excited to make it to my first one, but I have a few questions maybe some of you MGoUsers can answer. By the way, stadium seats are $65 a pop.
1. I signed in with my MGoBlue user account (the one I used to buy student season tickets all 4 years of undergrad). Is there any preferential seating selection for repeat customers or customers with seniority (alumni, perhaps)?
2. Will I be placed in the Michigan group? I purchased Stadium level seats.
3. How many of you are making the trip? I hope there's an awesome showing by Michigan fans. I'd like a home crowd advantage.

Ann Arbor is a female. A beautiful woman, in fact. Why can't a Bowl Game be a beautiful woman, also. Especially one that is nice and tan, like the Gator Bowl.

Not all the ladies who live in Florida are nice and tan, especially in December-January. You Michigan folk would crack up at how people bundle up when the temperature hits 65.
But, I am gladly taking a solid 7 Gator Bowl over the snow cows at the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl.

I'm pretty sure priority for seat assignment is based on Victors Club points. So if you aren't a donor or a season ticket holder your seats will probably be worse than those who are. Still, any tickets bought from the athletic department should put you in the Michigan section of the stadium.

You get points for a lot of things -- being an alum, non-athletic donations (scholarships and annual gifts, etc.), how recently you last donated, holding season tickets in any sport (with longer holders getting more points), were you ever a letterwinner, etc.

couple of bowl games as part of OSU's official travel party-yay student government.
The Gator Bowl might do things differently, but at the Fiesta Bowl, the seating was pretty random. OSU's party was usually spread over three to five sections, mixed in with Fiesta Bowl boosters or sponsors or whatever, big donors, and random local notables. They didn't really divide the stadium into home and away sides, either, they just mixed them into the same sections.

1) Based on Points through the Athletic Department. Points are given for donation size, years having season tickets, bowl games attended in the past, etc
2) You will be place in a Michigan group. I went to the Rose Bowl and the Michigan group was together (although severely outnumbered by the USC folks - you should have a more even split in Florida even though it's close to Mississippi).
3) Not going but would have loved to be there.

Not to hijack the thread, but another bowl ticketing question. The ticket office states that "all U-M students will be seated in the same area." Is it safe to assume that if I were to buy tickets as an alum they'd be worse than if I bought them as a student, or is there some possibility that even though student tickets are $65 they've been partially subsidized by the athletic department and are actually a higher pricing level?

MGoBlue charges a $5 surcharge on tickets purchased, so they actually might cost you more than buying a ticket through Ticketmaster or other method. However, they do guarantee you'll be placed in the Michigan section. Michigan probably bought a big pool of tickets to sell back with the $5 premium all in the same sections. Ends up being a moneymaker for Michigan as long as all of their seats sell.
Not sure on the alum vs. student placement argument, though I would tend to say alumni would get better seats based on alumni at Michigan Stadium near the 50 yard line and students in the corner.

So, my coworker who loves OSU (but didn't go there) was going to the Rose Bowl last year, or maybe earlier. Either way, he bought tickets from some type of online scalping, StubHub or Craigslist. Bought like 8 tickets and spent about $800. Turns out they were just tickets for the Rose Bowl Parade. He watched the game at a bar in Pasadena. Hahahaha.

Strongly disagree. The Rose Parade is one of the key features of why the Rose Bowl is just about the most incredible spectacle in all of sports.

And do what instead? Drink in a parking lot? Why go all the way to Pasadena if you're not going to take in the entire scene? It's not like you have to do one or the other...

Preferably at a time where George Lucas is Grand Marshall and/or there's a really hot Rose Queen.
But the damn thing is SOOOO early out there, especially to get a spot.
And drinking before can be a mixed bag. I admit, before playing Texas, out in a muddy field with HUGE portapotty lines wasn't the best time. But having a RV, staying the night in view of the Stadium, surrounded by other Michigan fans and Washington State fans? Priceless.
The Rose Bowl is one of the most majestic places to play a football game. The problem is, being basically LA, nothing is centralized to do, and getting around town to and from the game is a bitch.

I'm not going to be able to travel to the bowl game, but for anyone who does, look at Stubhub if you're trying to save a few bucks. I saw some tickets for the game for $25 something yesterday, and right now they have tickets for as low as $30 there.
