Bowden Stripped of 14 wins by NCAA
Now if they can just drop the hammer on USC.
Good, hopefully this will set a precedent that one (in this case a couple) bad apple(s) in a university athletic system can ruin the whole bunch. Some people never could understand that.
he wasn't dotted or paisleyed of the wins. NCAA leniency for the win!
...since I laughed so hard that I shed tears. Just picturing Bowden paisleyed....priceless. I guess if he were actually "striped" he would match many of his former players.
What a nice retirement gift. Now JoPa better walk on. I'll hit an old man in public!
but striping him is way over the line. It's inhumane.
Tar and Feather Pete Carrol?
Put John Calipari in the stocks??
Not a bad idea now that you mention it...
DAD-GUMMIT... we won us them games.
Glad to see the Paterno/Bowden duel ended up the right way. Also glad to see the NCAA come down on a cheating school the way they should.
that Florida State is always cheating.
But, but...he had a Rhodes Scholar on his team last year! And he loves going to church! And he'll go into any living room in America and tell the fine young man's parents, grandparents, priest, rabbi, etc. how much he cares for those kids and how they'll be raised to be fine, upstanding citizens!
But seriously, the sad thing is that most big-name coaches have these types of skeletons in their closets. The problem for Bowden is that he (a) started losing too much, and (b) he flaunted his apparent invincibility from sanctions for so long that at some point people simply could not ignore them any longer. I never liked Bowden so I am happy he received his comeuppance, but this selective enforcement/punishment by the NCAA doesn't really inspire me.
They will probably wait until the year Pete Carroll decides to retire before they investigate anything to do with USC. Then, once he is already on his way out the door, stip him of a few wins or maybe give him a couple of stripes.
The worst example, of course, is Calipari - people know he is breaking the rules wherever he goes, but the NCAA seemingly allows him to coach however he wants and swoops in when he leaves. I'm not saying Carroll is at that same level - it is hard to imagine anyone else being that swarmy - but I agree that the hammer won't fall on USC until Carroll has packed his bags and moved to Malibu permanently.
