Borges/Mattison Pressers 11/12/13
November 13th, 2013 at 12:13 AM ^
You are forgeting next year. You would be ok with another year like this year then? With a fifth year senior at the most important position on the field?
There is never an optimal situation. Look at Alabama even they had issues with their O Line early on but they adjusted and got beter.
The coaches need to make the team better and call games that take advantage of the current roster.

It's hard to find fault in a defense that gives up 17 points. Overall speed seems to be the major problem facing the defense.

You notice DB on the sidelines?
He's the real offensive coordinator. Borges is just a figurehead up in the press box down to coaching the QBs. DB is calling all the plays.
Yes I made this up.

Press: What do you think is causing the team's offensive collapse, Coach?
Borges: We're here in Year 1 of the new system, and, you know, growing pains.
Press: But this is your third year, Coach.
Borges: I have my own way of counting years for systems. For example, if it's real year one, and I get fired, that doesn't count at all. I wasn't even hired or coaching. And if it's real year two, and I get fired, that only counts as a temp job. So my resume stays clean.
Then if I get fired after real year three, I was only at the school for one Borges Year, and I get to say I never got to implement my system, because my system takes 3 years to implement. Get it? It's really simple.
Either I didn't have a job, or I have a really good excuse for getting fired.
Works every time!
Well, thanks for the presser, guys, gotta go. I have an appointment with my realtor.

I cant even bring myself to watch this fucken idiot Borges talk.
Brandon damn well better have Hoke in his office Mon morning & want to know WTF is going on!
I wish they would fire Borges now & let anybody else call the plays for the rest of the year. Some guys on this board could do a better job by far. There has to be some good Mich Alum that could do intern for the year. We need some good plays to beat OSU!

You know, I really do love Borges pressers. And I agree with him a lot. Hoke and co. had two honeymoon years with a hybrid system. It worked pretty well. Now they are going pretty strictly pro-style. That's a big transition to make, and I don't think Devin fits Borges' system as much as everyone thinks (although I do think that Devin fits it better than Denard; Shane Morris is the stereotypical Borges quarterback). I do think they could be doing more hybrid...maybe a 25/75 split between spread/pro, which would be helping both the O-Line and Devin a lot. But that said, I think Borges is largely right. It doesn't excuse occasional lapses of dreadful play calling, but I think he has a lot of very good points.
November 12th, 2013 at 9:47 PM ^
What words would Borges have to say to make some of you pussies shut the eff up and stop whining like the little bitches that you are?
Man UP! THis is a tough man's message board. No pussies allowed!
Getting that off my manly chest, let me just type that Borges should be given one more year. If after next year we see the same crappy weak football we are seeing now, I say kick that fat ass out of A2 and bring in someone new.
Ok, you can carry on and continue whining your fat alcoholic asses off.

For real, buddy? Next time you think about posting, don't. K?

So Borges said this ''year 1'' for him? Fuck him. Sounds like he's blaming Denard for not being able to run his offense. Hey jackass, you can't run a west coast offense with Devin either.
November 12th, 2013 at 10:35 PM ^
Yes! I completely agree. Sounds like he's throwing Denard, the only reason he had any success on offense in the past 2 seasons, under the bus. The longer this year goes on, the more valuable Denard proves to have been. It makes my skin crawl that Borges complains about him like that. Weak shit, Al.
November 12th, 2013 at 11:53 PM ^
with one exception. At SDSU, he inherited NFL caliber talent playing in a weak MWC and was able to kick butt. Everywhere else, the longer he was on the staff the worse the offense got.
The sooner we're rid of him the better off we'll be.
November 13th, 2013 at 1:26 AM ^
if it wasn't for Denard he would have looked much worse the past two years and we would probably be talking about firing Hoke right now. Denard covered up the offensive staffs incompetence with plays like the one in the picture page from today. I don't know if I will be able to watch next year if he is still around. Way too much arrogance to tolerate.

So football analysts and professionals are wrong, and MGoJoe is right....
I find this hard to believe. Maybe he's not coaching a WCO right now (I don't think he is either), but he is known primarily as a WCO guy.

Our defense is not free of guilt in this mess. They have given up some big plays at crucial times, but their overall performance has been good, not excellent, but good. I'd give our defense a solid B grade.
On the other hand, the offense has been awful. When you have three games where you rush for under 100 yards, your offense is suspect... when your offense runs for 27, -48, and -20 yards you have a terrible offense. They'd almost be better off punting on first down half the time since they tend to move backward. I'd give our offense an F. It is disgustingly bad.
November 12th, 2013 at 11:18 PM ^
You heavy complainers were on his bandwagon a mere 11 days ago talking about his greatness during the Indiana game. It's laughable the level of band wagoning by the completely uninformed that goes on here lately.
There's like 10 or 15 posters who know anything and none of them are lurking around at the 1000 point or less level. I include myself in the know nothing category.
Sorry, but you fair weather gripers just look silly; like you belong over commenting away using your facebook account under the latest gem from Drew Sharp.
November 13th, 2013 at 1:44 AM ^
What? I don't remember people praising him on here becasue of the Indiana game. I seem to remember most people saying ''It's Indiana, they're defense is awful so I wouldn't take much out of this game.''
November 13th, 2013 at 12:20 AM ^
I like Greg Mattison. His pressers are always handled quite well and you really get more of a sense as to how things are going than you do with Borges or Hoke. Not to mention the fact that he has a good delivery.
November 13th, 2013 at 2:05 AM ^
give back the first two years salary.
November 13th, 2013 at 5:24 AM ^
This logic in bashing the defense is so stupid.
If we're only judging them off of crucial drives then you're going to tell me they won the IU game when they game up a million yards?
It's a 60 minute game.
There's a difference between making a big stop and playing well on defense throughout the game. Some of you need to learn that difference.

Eventually they're going to score.
OT - Anyone know what our average (field position) start of possession is vs. our opponents?
November 13th, 2013 at 8:11 AM ^
To see that shit show from fat Al? And now I have to hear this bullshit? I'm fine with the defense, for the most part, but the offense is complete nonsense. Please...understand what you have and what you don't have and make an adjustment. Even my wife is fed up
November 13th, 2013 at 12:28 PM ^
I don't think that any particular defense really has a following here, although many seem slightly frustrated by the bend don't break we've seen this year. Virtually everyone here has a favorite offense, and many refer to other offenses in virulently perjorative terms. I sense, but would not want to statisically defend, that far more poeple here think simple changes would let them call a far superior offense and relatively few think they could call a similarly superior defense.
The result is that Mattison gets far more of a pass on his mistakes because people are less vested in how they think a defense should be called. Borges gets the level of over the top emotionally fueled assaults because people here are far more emotionally vested in their certainty that they could pick a better offensive philosophy and call a better game. To them Borges' "mistakes" are self evident proof of stupidity, Mattison's mistakes are not. That is all illusion.
The defense "cost" Michigan the Nebraska game exactly as much as the offense. Whether you lay it on bad calls, poor execution, both, or something else, the entire team, not the defense nor the offense, lost the game. This is equally true of the Penn State game.
