I agree with this for the first time. This is the worst called game I've ever seen. I've never been so frustrated.
I've defended Borges in the other games where people were ranting about this, but second half play-calling has been atrocious. Not an execution issue, just predictable and asking offence to do things they just aren't built to do.
And taking devin out every other play kills his momentum. by the time Borges figured it out, devin had to come in cold to win the game and couldn't.
It was obvious that his timing and rythm were off in the final drive.
Not using Denard and Devin at the same time is just baffling.
Denard + Devin ? Yes please.
Denard instead of Devin? Never again.
Seriously, what was the point of using those plays last week, if you're not going to use them vs OSU?
everytime he come in on 2nd and short we dont do anything .....Keep him out
Game over
This half of football is literally the worst called half of offense I can remember. Maybe overreaction in the moment, but seriously, this is just terrible terrible terrible. And the play calling was great in the first half! Why change everything?!
He has to go. He chokes in every big game.
great stop defense
MODS DELETE ASAP
This is exactly the time for thread like this.
Thank God for Mattison and the D. No way should we only be down 5.
Even my 87-year old FIL is shaking his head at our bizarre insistence on running up the middle without even the hint of any success.
My FIL keeps asking me why they stopped calling the plays that worked in the first half.
At first I thought it was a stupid question, but it isn't.
I'm really butthurt right now.
Mattison is bailing Borges fat ass out.
Just the players and the execution
He sucks
He sucks. I've never said that before, always defended him. He sucks. I want someone new. Don't care anymore. Over-reaction? Maybe. Don't care. Fire Borges.
Concur. Hope you're not negged for this. He makes Roushar look like Nostradamus mixed with Jesus.
This will likely be deleted, but regardless:
WTF SECONDHALF BORGES?
The game is not over. A series of off-color words apply to you and everybody else upvoting this trash.
I wanted to see all of Borges's play-calling in the 2nd half before I decided whether or not I could do his job better than he can.
The interior O-line is god awful. I don't want to defend Borges but when you backs have negative rushing yards, it isn't totally your fault as the offensive coordinator
No some blame goes to Fred Jackson too.
But that is the point. The interior of our line was not the strength, but on third and short 3 times, they ran right the middle. Right to our weakness and right into their strength....... That is good coaching?
Our interior OL does suck! So maybe not run it up the middle with your 5''6" 165 lb RB????!!!!!
Everybody on this blog knew before the game that running up the middle wouldnt work. So it has to be assumed that the OC should also know this fact.
This is the first time im happy we are replacing over half the o-line. They o line was beyond terrible and the only thing worse was the playcalling

Seems like it may be the second time.
If Borges can just adjust and take us down the field with goo play calls. I will never criticize another play call as long as he is calling plays.
and let him get the record. Fuck this W!
Fumble the ball?
did borges move from what was working in the first half? Yes
Called Indiana so he could call plays for them to lose to Purdue today. Hail hail to ol Purdue
Well then lets bring Rich Rod back. He never fumbled the ball either.
Throw that pass?
shut up, he calls a run up the middle every fucking time
Jerkoff
I flamed... I meant dick face,
No. But he doesn't run or throw for TD's either. Stop finding excuses for him. He sucks. This season he got lucky he had Denard and Devin. Look at our 3 QB's. Not one can throw. Look at our RB's. Not one can run effective. Play calling, I don't wanna go there. I rest my case. He's just an average OC.
No, but Borges does have Devin and Denard, and the playbook in Backyard Football would work would those two on the field at the same time...
really limits the playcalling when you can't run between the tackles or have the QB pass from the pocket.
Running play after play into the heart of your offensive weakness is poor play calling. And dreaming up an offense with Denard and Devin on the field at the same time, using it heavily against Iowa to great success, and then not using it vs Ohio State is just asinine.

I don't know...that MAC line worked in the first half.
Mealer and Barnum were both 4* guys so thats not exactly MAC level
I think it might be wise to shut down the blog for the rest of the day if we end up losing. It might save a number of people from acting like complete idiots and totally embarrassing themselves. The levels of intoxication, angst, and impotent rage are all reaching critical mass.
I've been here a few years and even I was considering making a surefire Bolivia Butthurt thread. someone do it, I'll be in support.
I dunno man. Fumbled abound.
Edit: changed my mind. Yeah Borges lost the game.
he's not going anywhere
Is a dick
Reverse Rich Rod. I have honestly never seen such bad playcalling in my life. I would not mind one bit if he did not return next year.

Absolutely pathetic. Borges was awful. Just awful.
I concur
I know it's ridiculous to accuse him of throwing games but, what the fuck is going on?
too many disappointing performances, most of them by the offense and the play-calling
Ohio is simply bigger and strong than we are on both sides of the ball. A carry-over of the bullshit recruiting ideals of RR. Yeah, I said it!
Thanks dude. Fuckin monkey
Thanks dude. Fuckin monkey
Staff? Mattison is the motherfucking god. Hoke uber alles. Borges = lolwut.
Most uninspired, piece of shit coaching job i have ever witnessed in my entire life...
Borges lost that game for us. Defense played awesome (what did Braxton Miller really do all game? Not much). Borges went in a shell and didn't do crap in the 2nd half. Awful awful awful
This was a winnable game, thoroughly pissed away by the gameplanning.
This is the worst of all worlds.
I'm always 100% opposed to these types of threads.
That being said, he lost this game. We had a lead at half and only allowed 6 points in the final 30 minutes. I can't even begin to try and comprehend what was going through his mind. I'm livid.
Not opposed.
We have not won any close road games bc our offensive play calling sucks. After a great first half we go conservative and run up the gut multiple times until we shit on ourselves. Thanks Borges now ill have nightmares for a year bc of you.
Honestly I hope that you suck it up and say "yea I fucked up. I should've known that my o line can't move a mouse and been a bit more aggressive on third and 1. Oh btw I let Osu go undefeated. Yea the whole world prolly hates me."
Yea we do. Fuck you man.
I don't understand how you put up 21 on the first half with brilliant play calling and move the ball at will then just decide to revert to every single play and formation that hasn't worked all year for the entire second half.
I'm probably gonna stab you in the dick.
I've been an Al Borges supporter all year but all I can say is wtf.
This one's on Brady Hoke.
He hired Borges and can't rein him in because he's not qualified to call offensive plays.
His defensive "expertice" isn't needed because his DC knows more about coaching a defense than he does.
His only real gametime responsibilities are special teams and clock management. He sucks at clock management and he's stuck in the past with special teams. Whooopdeedoo
The playcalling was inexcusable, let's bring in a guy that everyone in the building knows he's going to fucking run!
it worked once, congrats, you blew your wad, they adjusted, Borges didn't.
I want to give all the credit in the world to the effort from the defense today.
He has failed everywhere he went. Notice how when OSU noticed we were playing soft on the corners, they would throw quick passes for 5-9 yard gains -- i.e., taking what the defense is giving you. We failed at running up the middle all day, but Borges/Hoke/Brandon think Michigan football/MANBALL is about imposing your will. Doing the same thing over and over again when it fails every time is insanity, especially when there are other options. Dave Brandon got the OC he deserved, and he is seeing the results. Someone should let him know when his next marketing meeting is over that OSU is not going to be going back to an interim coach anytime soon, and though we have added Maryland and Rutgers to the B1G, this isn't the MWC. We can do better than an OC that has bounced around for two decades and ended up at SDSU.
FAT FUCK NEEDS FIRED ASAP AND LEFT IN COLUMBUS. HE WAS OHIOS BEST COACH TODAY...
FAT FUCK NEEDS FIRED ASAP AND LEFT IN COLUMBUS. HE WAS OHIOS BEST COACH TODAY...
Brady should turn that page...
For the first time, I agree. The second half play calling was beyond putrid. TO's didn't help, but the play calling was some of the worst I've ever seen. He has to go. He won't, but he should after that debacle.
Sure the 3rd/4th down calls were awful, but this is Borges blaming is out of hand. He called a great first half, and it's to his credit that he succesfully installed the Fritz package to begin.
You have to look at the entire game not just one half. If we had won most would just be mad but the offense cost us that game , it completely collapsed the 2nd half and we're luck the defense played an awesome game or this would have been a blow out on a RR scale
that fuck fat needs fired asap and I hope they leave him in columbus to be with his teammates
Thanks for turning your caps lock off on your third post. Although you need to know there is a shift key too.
Pack your bags, be out in the morning Al. Defended you all year, but this is inexcusable.
It seems like Borges outsmarts himself. The whole Devin at QB, Denard at RB was working well in the 1st half. In fact tOSU was so focused on the threat of the pass, Denard had that awesome last minute run in before half time. So Borges seems to assume that Meyer will adjust for it and starts going away from it with actually being forced to. Then Denard misses a blitz pickup and Borges panics. That was just so aggravating to me. Of course Denard misses the blitz pickup, that is the price of using him, he just isn't trained in that area. You have to accept it and move on, not turtle and go I Form Vincent Smith for the next three drives.
I'm not going to totally bag Al Borges in that he clearly did a good job of testing this out against Iowa and having the package installed for tOSU, as shown by the first half. The second half though has to be some of the worst adjustments by an OC I've ever seen though. He just went ahead and crippled our offense. It seemed like he had a game plan figured out to get around the fact the interior of our line is not that good and suddenly he decides to lean on them for the second half.
Between the Vincent Smith up the gut plays and the whole Denard up the middle (despite the fact he has a known injury and can really only carry in one hand) are just so damn questionable. Use Smith to pass block and let Denard run in space where he can use his speed and agility to avoid the kind of hits that pop the ball free. Argh.
I still say Borges gets some time with his big outside WRs and a better offensive line, but the decision making was really question here.
Edit:
The other issue I see with firing is that there is already talk about how there are lots of big name schools looking to hire this year and not that many candidates out there. That seems to imply some of the better OCs might get promoted a little early. I'm not sure if this is the ideal year to be on the market. Off the top of my head I see Loeffler in play and he's resume is that awesome passing spread against Florida in the bowl game, some good work at Temple, and then this year's season at Auburn (ack). Unless some really good OC somehow gets screwed out of the job by the coaching carousel, I'm not sure if this is a good year to be buying. As annoying as Borges his (he seems to coach the offense out of a win one or two times a year), this might not be the year to go shopping.
Inexcusible, but I am torn as to whether he should be fired. No reason to fire him as punishment. Borges is about to get the horses to do what he wants, and except for the second half today, the play calling has been decent since we went straight West Coast. On the other hand, today indicted just terrible decision making that would carry over regardless of the situation.
All the talk about Denard and Devin being a 2 headed monster and what could Borges do with those 2 on the field at the same time and Borges chose to sit Denard most of the 2nd half. I'm not saying Denard at QB but WHY have one of the most explosive players in college on the side lines? Why I'm asking questions why have Vincent Smith running power up the middle when nobody has ran up the middle with success all year?
The team didn't make it easy on Borges with all the turn overs in the 2nd half but come on . I'm tired of hearing Borges talk "I'm not trying to put square pegs in round holes" 9 and then tries to have Denard be Joe Montana , " We want to have our best 11 on the field" While one of the best players in the country sits on the sides lines most of the 2nd half. I'm not only gonna question Borges but I'm calling out Hoke for not being a head coach and not stepping up and doing something.
I don't see why any playmakers would commit to this offense. Seriously fire Al Borges. I'm starting to think Last year was a fluke season and Greg Mattison might be the only saving grace of this entire staff ( save recruiting).
Has anyone seen my car keys? No?
Okay, carry on.
FIRE BORGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fire his fat ass! He decides to call brilliant game against fucking Iowa! Seriously you are gonna waste everything against POS team? And then you are going to call the game you did today? Good fucking riddance asshole.
at borges' press conference somebody needs to call him out, same at hokes press conference, lets see what stupid excuse he has about why we lost the game and why those plays were called
Accountability needed! Seriously, wtf???????
I can't watch another game called by this idiot. He's had way too many chances to prove he knows what he is doing. We don't have a chance with this guy calling the shots.

Not sure how real of a concern this is, but do recruits look hard into the playcalling in big games? If so, how does Borges game today rub off on recruits? Not trying to bash the guy, this is an honest question.
I usually don't reply to many posts, but I am appalled. I feel like the players were cheated out of a victory today by our own OC. Mattison talks about bullets often. Borges sent our guys in with no ammo in that second half. Worst called half ever.
Bring Back Rich Rod!!!!
His defense.
Because right now, I am firmly on the fire him side of things.
The caveat is his playcalling the previous 3 games, which seemed to work, and he is going to get the players he wants.. but, still. C'mon man. We give our best game to iowa and you roll out this crap?
Here's the deal.
Our RBs haven't shown up all year, and if Denard isn't going we have no rushing attack. Our O-Line is not great, particularly on the inside. The interior of our D-Line has been inconsistent at best and sorely lacking in depth. OSU exploited all of our biggest weaknesses.
It's not like any of these things should come as a surprise to you people. All of this combined with the fact that any time you turn the ball over 4 times you're going to have a hard time winning.
Did Gorgeous Borges call a bad game in the 2nd half? Yes.
Should he be the scapegoat? No.
Our issues run much deeper than playcalling. We will need to totally rebuild our offensive and defensive lines in both quality, and depth, before we're capable of performing at a high level, consistently, against good teams.
You're right about the team's weaknesses, which are considerable. But the team's strength -- a pretty legit two-threat QB (Devin) who thrives when outside the pocket -- totally went out the window in the second half. Naturally, Ohio figured out that Denard posed no passing threat. Which made third downs worlds easier to defend. Devin would have kept them honest on third and short.
The demonstrably best strategy -- Devin scrambling, with Denard in the backfield, if only as a decoy -- was abandoned because Denard blew one or two blocking assignments. The coaches threw the baby out with the bathwater. They turned a two-headed monster into a one-dimensional QB. Bafffling.
Do you know what play doesn't require Denard to block as much? A read option with Devin at QB and Denard at RB.
I think what has everyone frustrated is that
Borges Playcalling : Offense :: GERG Playcalling : Defense
When the other teams adjusts Borges doesn't change his scheme and we do nothing. No adjusting throughout the game is the hardest thing to watch
Alabama, ND, Neb and this was absolutely unbelievable. No rationale at all for playing in the hands of the defence. His panic was clear with the all pass calls with Gardner.
This (from ESPN's Big Ten Blog):
Second guessing: Michigan's offense was explosive and unpredictable in the first half. In the second half, offensive coordinator Al Borges strangely went away from his team's strengths. Twice near midfield, he called for runs up the middle by their tailbacks instead of keeping the ball in the hands of stars Robinson and Gardner. That's exactly where the power of the Ohio State defense is, and the Buckeyes stuffed both plays. Michigan compounded the problem on its opening possession of the second half, going for it on 4th-and-2 from its own 48 and not coming close to getting a first down. That led to the go-ahead field goal by Ohio State and sapped away some of Michigan's momentum.
It's like Borges wanted us to lose. Please, tomorrow, pack your bags.
Run up the middle. Run up the middle. Run up the middle. I don't care if its the strength of their defense... On every important 3rd down , run up the middle. Will you hire me?
I just don't know what to think about today. Yes, he called a horrible game but was it enough to cause a firing? I don't know.
Spade is a spade...but GTFO.
It's been three hours. And I'm still just as pissed
Hey mom look I'm on twis!!!
