completely predictable, won't play Denard and Devin at the same time for some reason and insists on running it up the middle for one yard losses

Borges should be fired.
"We want to get both on the field on the same time because they are our best athletes"
-Al Borges
NEVER FUCKING DOES IT
We need a 'scumbag Borges' meme
His playcalling cost us at least a quarter of the game, he won't be fired but he was terrible today.
Fuck that fat fucking piece of shit. He shouldnt even make the bus ride back. He fuckinh sucks.
Agree. Vincent up the middle hasn't worked it 4 years. Pathetic.
Rabble rabble rabble. It's the 2ns yr these guys have coached chill. It doesn't work like a video game
Honestly look at the game. OSU made adjustments sure but it became obvious that when denard was QB he would run. Also we havent been able to run it up the middle all year, maybe against Illionis but thats it, so you do it agianst a better defense? Also you are moving the ball passing yet you go to the run? Borges should be fired.
OSU was giving us the game and borges gave it right back.
It was horrible. Stupid call after stupid call. Just horrible offensive coaching. Borges was the player of the game for Ohio.
Insanity is defined as trying the same thing over and over and expecting different resutls...Therefore Borges=Insane.
watch a Colorado game moran
Heiko,
Please hold him accountable in the presser.
Ask him why every fan and announcer knew what he was doing was stupid, yet he did it anyways
Who had worse play calling in the second half this weekend...us or Iowa. Its close.
Ferentzed that one Borges
With the win going to Al because he called a decent first half and then just totally shit the bed in the second. I thought Denard was going to run for 200 plus yards today but I forgot we have to protect his health for the Alabama game! Wait what? We already played Alabama...I'm losing my mind right now. FML
Can we not be Michigan state fans?
I didn't see Borges turn the ball over 4 times.
He called a shitty game, but denard is gone next year, so his cluelessness with how to use him will finally end.
We were simply outplayed. Yes Borges was predictable, but our offense lacks an elite RB to keep the defense honest.
Ever heard of Denard Robinson? He had 124 yards rushing in the first half.
We should have won this game by 14 points or so if we were as versatile on offense as we were in the first half.
Hated him all year.
I'm done with him. Would love to see him go.
For the first time, I actually agree. He's just not a smart football coach. We were the better team, but the coaches did not put the players in a position to win.
Creative against Fucking Iowa but leave it in the hangar in the biggest game of the year
There is already one thread for this leaky pants crying.
on what grounds... he was awful today and except for a terrible Iowa team, when was the last time he called a great game? Made me sick to watch that second half... looked like the entire game against Alabama
...
Cosign with prejudice
Fatso
He hired Borges. You wanted lloyd 2.0 and you got him. This looks very Carrish to me...
First of many, and please don't chide the OP for making the post acting like you're above falling for firings. That was the most pathetic excuse for an offense in the second half and it had NOTHING to do with the players. Clearly out thinking yourself. I am so very disappointed for those players who gave it all and had their coaches let them down.

So predictable they might as well have printed the play calls in Braille and handed out copies to Ohio. I've defended him for two years, but this game was sheer lunacy.
Well this is spiraling out of control quickly.
This is pretty much exactly what it was like to have Fred Jackson as OC, for those of you who remember the 90s.
I wouldn't say that. Jackson wanted to establish the run all day. He would not have called an all-pass series. The results were unfortunately similar, though.
If it weren't for Mattison we would've been 5-9 instead of 8-4. Air Force, Sparty, and Northwestern would've edged us if it weren't for great defense. Of course if it weren't for Borges dicking around and squandering entire drives, quarters, halves, games, and maybe even this whole fucking season team 133 would've been 11-1. Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Ohio thank you, Al.
This team was already only two mircale passes and FG's away from being 6-6. The Northwestern and MSU wins were about as close as it gets.
He was fine in the first half then just went brain dead. Never crossed the 50 in the second half.
Exactly.
Things were going so well in the first half. Why abandon it? Don't get it.
IOWA???? That makes sense. Don't get creative against the better team. Brilllllliant!!!!!
quit crying you fucking pussies. We lost we'll get em next year
Voice of reason. As much as you pick at people, I am glad to see you are a reasonable dude.
Worst offensive play calling I've seen since the Carr days. Pathetic. Fire Borges and fire Hoke for hiring him. It's not just this game it's all the games this season.
The players weren't put in a position to succeed, it is not their fault. How can Borges can show his face in AA again after that monstrosity, if we score ONE TOUCHDOWN in the second half we win, unbelivable
Lol @ your sig, how ironic. What a piece of shit comment.
Days like these I realize why BiSB stepped down as mod. Ass hats come out of the woodwork with the dumbest trolly of troll comments.
lulwat
FIRE Borges!!!!! please...used devin and denard terrible over the past two seasons..and we all saw what happened when denard was not in vs a ok defense..nothing!!! nothing at all
I understand the OSU team has awarded Al Borges the game ball! That second half play calling and personnel usage was atrocious. Did he think it gave us an unfair advantage to have Devin and Denard in at the same time?
Hoke better fire him or else in a seaon or 2 he will be out the door with him because we will not beat ohio state n urban with him..bottom line...I love Hoke but i hate borges
Said it in the liveblog, but the third quarter was the most needlessly lifeless quarter of football I've ever seen from Michigan's offense. The talent was there. The scheme sold them short.
Time for somebody who is aggressive for 4 quarters
Hoke better fire him or else in a seaon or 2 he will be out the door with him because we will not beat ohio state n urban with him..bottom line...I love Hoke but i hate borges
Nothing in the world will make me more angry than listening to Hoke's stupid ass coach-speak press conference where there will be zero accountability, zero questioning of the play calling (PROBABLY BECAUSE HE DOESNT KNOW THE PLAYCALLS), and 14 "we didnt play Michigan football" quotes...
The coaching staff absolutely let down our Senior players, and they turned an electric first half into the biggest shit pile i've ever seen.
Denard runs his ass off for 124 yds in the first half, and he finishes with less...
Devin passes like a stud in the first half, and then he only has the opportunity to throw on the last 2 drives....
Borges shows flashes, but he just has not been overly impressive to me in two years. He breaks out a bunch of tricks against Minnesota and Iowa and then runs Smith up the middle when it matters. Denard has bailed him out numerous times. He finally looks like he is in a rhythym with Devin the last few weeks and then goes against it in our biggest game of the season.
And Denard picked up most of his yards today by doing Denard things and by two OSU players knocking each other out of a tackle, not because of brilliant play calling. We were lucky to even get 7 at the end of the half when it looked like Borges was trying to run out the clock despite 3 TOs and good field position.
Borges called a truly awful second half. Yes, he didn't fumble or throw picks, but there was absolutely no reason to put those guys in the positions that they were in. Interior blocking has been bad all year, we can't run up the middle or call slow developing passes.
Then take Devin off the field for stretches and ask him to come in on 3rd down and make a play (or hand off for a Smith iso, whichever). This is what the Dolphins did to Henne and it drove me up the wall.
This loss is squarely on Borges first and foremost.
I agree the man sucked ass in the 2nd half but if these posts existed during the Rich Rod regime they would be deleted ASAP.
As bad as the RR defenses were, this 2nd half was the worst display of football I've ever seen.
There was plenty of criticism of Greg Robinson during the RR era, with Dave Brandon ultimately deriding even our wins in shootouts, like the Illinois game. Rightfully so -- we had a putrid defense. This is despite the fact that Greg Robinson has some achievements on his resume, like two Super Bowl rings and a Rose Bowl win.
Now, we have hired an OC that washed out after his time in the SEC, has never lasted anywhere, whose QBs have shown largely shown steady regression and an inability to crack 60% completion rates (because he believes in very high risk, high reward vertical passing). We haven't fully regressed yet, but we're getting there. We've gone from 8th in the country in total offense in 2010 to 42nd in 2011 to 67th in 2012. Al Borges is the offensive Greg Robinson. Yes, he has a few nice things on this resume, like Greg Robinson. But there is a reason why Greg Robinson was not in demand when RR hired him. (RR needed someone cheap, and the person coming in had to be okay with little stability.) There is a reason why Al Borges has bounced around, including not working for a year after being let go from Auburn, and ultimately ending up in the Mountain West. We don't need to overthink this. It's like investing in companies that disappoint because they have to turn around. No, they don't. If we want to succeed on offense, we should invest in coaches that have shown a consistent ability to achieve success in college football in the recent past. (The game has changed since the '90s.) That will cost us more than Borges costs us. Also, Hoke/Brandon believe that imposing your will on offense is critical -- e.g., Hoke's comments regarding defenses being soft if they see spread offense in practice. I really wish that 1950's mindset would die. Were Urban Meyer's defenses at Florida soft? Will his defenses at OSU be soft?
Hoke does not know anything about offense. That's fine. But bring in an OC who does, fergodsakes.
I'm just glad Vincent Smith is finally graduating.
I love him and he is a great third down back, but apparently eligibility is the only thing that will stop him from being asked to run up the gut on third and one.
As bad as the play calling was, I think we should all step back away from the computer and calm down.
Don't get me wrong, I am just as fired up as everybody else here, and I have my pitchfork and torch near me, but I am settling down. Angry? drink a good beer.
Next year it will be Justice Hayes.
Second half was hilarious
- Always run play action pass on first down when our RBs have negative running yards
- 2nd down Denard package stuffed due to no pass threat
- Run for loss in I-form up the middle
Rinse and repeat = never crossing 50 yard line in 2nd half
oh come on... I'm as upset as everybody else but you realize Hoke beat OSU last year right? In a game where Mattison's defense almost blew the game and Denard had a career day? I'm upset at Borges too but this is Michigan -- to say that we will "never beat OSU" with Hoke is inane
Yep. For the first time, I agree. He called a great first half. Then COMPLETELY ABANDONED WHAT MADE US SUCCESSFUL in the second half.
That last drive should've had some Denard runs to the outside. Why we didn't use him at all infuriates me.
Everyone take a step back from the ledge. Borges didn't call a good game. In fact it was horrible. But we all know that Hoke allows the coordinators to manage their respective sides of the ball. Not like Urban's offense lit us up in the 2nd half.
He keeps trying to run power football without the tools:
No back to block after Fitz went out
no constraint plays
Poor tight end blocking
a wussie offensive line
On the forth down attempt around mid field I think OSU had everyone in the box so we run a veer, nice call
One word: Lloydball.
As I'm looking over the play-by-play of the game, I'm thinking to myself "This is the USC Rose Bowl in reverse." (In that game, Lloyd, as he did in so many other games, insisted on going "up the gut" into about thirteen guys.)
Of course, a Michigan coach has beaten USC recently -- unfortunately, it was after he had been fired by Michigan. I admit that I sometimes watch Arizona just to see what their offense does. There was an interesting point made last night -- RR has a goal of how many first downs he wants in a game. I had never focused on that before. (I've seen our regression in terms of total yards, etc.) I just looked -- we were 22nd in 2010, 50th in 2011, and are now 93rd in 2012. Al Borges is our Greg Robinson. I hope we can put a competent OC together with Mattison, who won't be here forever.
But this is not Pete Carroll's USC. Don't forget that. Carr could have beaten Kiffin.
That jerk was singlehandedly responsible for the collapse in the 2nd half. The onus of the loss is on him.
He should be escorted out of the program as soon as possible. I was very frustrated watching the team run up the middle repeatedly with no positive gain.
It was a good game, but it's amazing how the offense totally shut down in the 2nd half with him calling plays. Ohio State kept leaving the door open. Michigan never took advantage.
TWiS here we come!!!!
Please die a miserable death.
Ban or neg me for this. Cool.
Because it's not like I have a lot of MGoPoints, anyways.
About the only solace I can take is that at least I'm not along in my AL-RAGE.
If there's ANY way Denard can play... you HAVE to put him on the field. You don't even have to give him the ball! Let him fake block a CB!
It's THE GAME for God's sake! He's a senior. What are you waiting for? the %^$&# GATOR BOWL?
I just can't believe there were never any plays to get denard one-on-one in space with an osu defense that misses tackles all the time. It was just an atrocity of obvious play calls. hoke's dumbass decision to call time out to go for it up the middle on fourth down set the table for the rest of the worthless playcalling. how many plays were devin and denard in together in the second half? just predictable, worthless crap from borges. totally obvious why he has been fired by other schools. ship him back to sdsu where he belongs.
Just about every person in the stadium knows where the ball is going when we line up in I-Form on third and short. We run it ALL the time with little to no results. Not necessarily calling for Borges's head, he has shown brilliance in previous games, but this loss is largely on his shoulders.
Another thing... yeah, it's cool and all that we beat OSU last year, BUT THEY WERE 6-7!!!!!!!!
If you EVER think Urban Meyer will put a team on the field that is ANYTHING like that joke of a team they had last year, you're going to be very sad...
This game made a big statement.
I don't think he should be fired. Hoke has a history with the guy and it would seem like a knee jerk reaction. We have to be patient and build. We lost to a solid team in a very difficult road environment.
Am I upset at the playcalling? Yeah. IMO you had to put Denard and Devin on the field at the same time to threaten both pass and run. Without Denard we have no running game, and without Devin we have no passing game. Makes it way too easy on the defense. Borges called a very poor game in the second half and there's no debating that.
On the other hand it's really, really hard to call an offensive game without an interior line and no viable running backs. I've only been a fan since '05 but I can't remember a worse interior o line. The bad news: this should still be a weakness next year. The good news? Help is on the way.
Keep calm. We're moving in the right direction and should have a very complete team, very soon.
Side note: gonna be lots of bans / Bolivians after this one haha
You're sounding too rational.
...you aren't really threatening both pass and run when Denard and Devin are both on the field, because there's no pass protection. It worked OK against Iowa because they don't have much of a pass rush, but today the RB had to be able to chip block and do blitz pickups and Denard's never learned to do any of that (not his fault, obviously, or anyone else's for that matter--it's not something you can learn to do in two weeks when you've never had to block in your life).
Our o-line was not good enough to handle it on their own without RB help.
Pisses me off.
that I wasn't even motivated to reply since you all have said it again and again, but, what the hell, Borges hasn't got a fuckin clue. He's good for AT LEAST two loses a year. The guy has got to go.
Have you ever hired? when a resume crosses your desk and the indiviidual has had many jobs at many different places, all at the same level.....never staying long at any one place.....this person has risen to their level of incompetence.
borges did a very poor job of figuring out an offense that leveraged the skills of the incumbent Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year (despite having lots of film showing what he could do well).......he completely failed to have Bellomy ready when necessary, and he failed to keep Gardner ready., basically giving away the Nebraska game.....
his performance against OSU was miserable, but he has had many miserabel playcalling games. 6 INTS against ND, including he halfback option call that turned the season.
Lets face it, he isnt very good, and his resume shows it.
hoke should have put the headset on in the third quarter and told borges to take his fat ass home. borges will cost hoke his job like robinson did rodriguez

It's amazing that we attended (attend?) a school that likes to pretend it's a paragon of class and virtue, we sneer at classlessness from MSU and OSU. We lookmfor "MICHIGAN MAN" qualities in our players and coaches.
And fuck if, when shitmdoesnt go our way, we don't act like aching, whining bitches.
Fucking grow up. All of you. You are what you claim Sparty is.
Taylor just lets OSU run around him many plays he just pushed them and watched them run around him and make plays. Look very close to his plays and you will see. Al Borges need to get ax and is a terrible coach get his fat azz out there and run around and maybe he will see. Crappy players Smith trying to run up the middle alot of bum players that need to play back at the high school level.

I ran your post through google translate in all the romance languages, and got nothing. Finally, I tried "bitter illiterate" and it returned "I'm butthurt."
