Borges is Out
2014 has already given me the awkwardness boner
I've joined that party too. Lets get AWKWARD!
I've joined that party too. Lets get AWKWARD!
A quick read through is showing that this thread is turning into a posbang. Ironic but Posbang! Less frustrating offense next year! <fingers crossed>
Straight 6 to midnight on this news.
No clue how anyone could possibly be surprised by this. Borges was, as I stated many, many times, The Worst Coordinator in Michigan History (TM). At his best he played opposing defensive coordinators to a draw. At his worst (say, whenever Pat Narduzzi was in the same zip code), watching him call games was like watching a slow pre-schooler play Bobby Fisher in chess.
He was a good human being, and I will always root for him since he devoted precious time in his life to try and help my favorite team, but I am very happy about this change. The key will be the hire of course. If Brady pulls a RichRod and brings in a GERG type, he'll be doomed. At least now Brady has a chance.
Woo? Now who replaces him. And does Funk follow him out the door?
Is this a joke or real?
From the mgoblue.com
This is unacceptable. Borges single-handedly almost won the game against osu.
What the hell is Brady and DB thinking?
but now i wonder. It was the defense that let us down at OSU and the Buffalo chip bowl and i changed to a "meh" about firing Borges since there has been SOOO much blame to go around the last two months. But if we need to make a statement that overpaid mediocracy is not tolerated then i think we made the right choice. I hope we have a committed hire avalible, since i think the Hoke hire was in part because we fired RR thinking we had Harbaugh and we know how that worked out. Matison gets a bye because he had a couple of bad hair days but at least i felt his retention was justified. Overall i presume we cant do a lot worse than Borges. That is not a solid recommendation.
if everyone was awake.
He also singlehandedly lost us the 2011 Iowa and MSU games, the 2012 ND game, and the 2013 Iowa, PSU, and Nebraska games. If you're counting that way.
Much respect for the man and everything he's committed into our football program - make no mistake about it, every member of our staff has sunk their entire lives into this team over the past 3 years. Unfortunately, he just wasn't much of a coach. Very excited to see where we go from here!
Borges wasn't trying to fail, he wanted to win games, but results based charting exists.
Much respect for the man, and before the jubulation sets in just remember that this is a man who is now unemployed, his family and kids now has to move (if he's going to work again, he made a lot of $$) and these are real people. Sorry to be a downer, but it's always hard when coaches get fired.
That said, let's see who Hoke hires and how that goes...
SEE HEIKO? SEE WHAT LEAVING THE MGOSTAFF HATH WROUGHT?
That poor guy who make over 700k/yr will be unemployed because he didn't do his job. Give me a break. He will be fine and get another job. Where is our sympathy for watching his pathetic play calling the last few years?
This is a happy time, go be a debbie downer elsewhere.
while I would prefer to characterize him as the wrong coach rather than a bad coach, Borges is about the last person without a job that I feel sorry for---at $700K he's kinda in a better place than most of the unemployed.
There is a difference between not doing your job and underperforming expectations. I don't think for a second he came in and half-assed his job, I just don't think he was GOOD at it.
Your sympathy is in not having to uproot your family, wife and two young kids, and move somewhere, anywhere in the country at a moments notice to start your life over.
Hello????? Who do you think will be his replacement!
Great minds think alike!
WHAT. This isn't April 1st, is it?
Yessss!!!! This is excellent news. I'll condsider this a nice, late X-mas present!!! Now the million dollar question: Who will the replacement be?
LANE KIFFIN!!!!! I jest, I jest
I would be psyched with Kiffin. Was great as an OC, has coached lots of NFL talent, is an elite recruiter.
SWEET TINY BABY JESUS!
as a mischievous wolverine...
I like to think of my baby Jesus as I'm at a skynard concert, hammered drunk and he's playing bass and I'm in the first row
My request to Santa came true, although a few weeks late but I'll take it. Goodbye Borges !!!
Praise the LORD
About all of the back and forth over the word anticipate.
Lots of respect for Hoke for making a change when it looked clear that he needed to.
because today is the first day of EE attending class. At least these guys cannot slip.
I hope this doesn't hurt our recruits.
Honestly, I can't recall ever reading about/ hearing a recruit say anything about Borges, positive or negative. What recruit who follows M Football would look negatively upon this move?
I recall reading that Damien Harris was a big Borges fan. Now I'm not trying to cause a panic, but I just remember reading that he and Borges talked quite a bit about the future of the offense and Harris was excited.
Link, or it never happened, my fellow Bronco
check out tomVH's twitter because he has already put up some reactions from commits and even Harris who seemed kinda disappointed but not like he was ready to jump ship and leave the wolverines
This is what a quick search provided, if I can find anything more definitive I'll certainly link it.
Harris is an elite talent, however, I'd rather have Borges out than have Harris in. One more season of Borges could've changed his mind anyways. Harris is supposed to have grown up a michigan fan so hopefully he still goes blue. I doubt whoever Hoke brings in is going to have a major philosophy change.
