Bonjour: Benjamin St-Juste

Michigan picks up a French Canadian CB commit!  Either for 2016 or 2017.

#Michigan has picked up a commitment from Montréal (QC) Cégep du Vieux cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (@BenjWolfpack24). Could be 2016 or 2017

Because of differences in high school requirements between Canada and The United States, St-Juste doesn’t yet know which class he will be in

Finally got a zero star recruit.  The chip on this guys shoulder is gonna be so big.  I think he'll be an All American.  Not sure if he will be allowed to be though.  Maybe all Canadian.  The potenital attrition is starting to scare me now.  If we are getting guys like this . . . Is the whole team gonna transfer?

If my poor understanding of Canadian education is accurate, he's enrolled in a Prep School. His highlights are from his high school. I have no idea if this is his 1st or 2nd year attending Cégep du Vieux.

In Quebec, high school finishes after grade 11. Instead of grade 12, kids go to CEGEP, where they can either do 2-year pre-university (effectively starting university 1 year later than americans) or they can do a 3-year "career" program like welding, nursing, etc instead.

This tape is from his last year of high school, so it's like the grade 11 film of a kid from the US. He has played 1 season (2014) for Vieux Montreal, I don't know why he doesn't have any film up from there yet.

edit: Eligibility is 3 years in CEGEP so technically he could either be 2016 or 2017, but most kids who go to university will only stay 2 years in CEGEP, making him a 2016. Both are possible though (not sure if the NCAA has any rules on this though.)

I wouldn't take anything away from this high school tape, you can imagine what the level of competition is at a Canadian high school... I played high school and CEGEP football in Montreal and... yeah. Not quite the same thing as american schools. The CEGEP tape would be nice to see but even that, the league has 2 super dominant teams (Vanier for the English kids, and Vieux for the French kids), the occasional decent season from a third team, and then it's just cupcakes. So I don't think the film will help us understand this, we just have to trust Harbaugh and his in-person evaluation.

I have no reason not to trust our staff, but I have to say we seem to be taking a number of relative unknowns. The old highlight tape of this kid is not impressive, although the newer camp video is decent and at least shows a big, athletic kid with plenty of frame to add some lbs. Big enough to play receiver as well.

I can't imagine the competition he faces is top notch, but maybe it is. perhaps his prep school is in an elite league or plays US high schools?

Gonna be interesting. Need to lock in at least one or two more highly rated kids(IMHO). I am praying for Gary and one big OL.

Well, maybe Poutine will now to be offered on the training table? AA could use a good Poutine joint, great after the bars close meal.

My first impression was also, 'WTH is this staff thinking' after watching that initial highlight tape.  But that was his freshmen year i believe.  Just slightly above is tape of his camp performance.

He is very, very well put together.  Nice sized athlete - definitely passes the look test. I do not mind this offer one bit.

I cannot see him sticking at CB, but appears he would be a very nice WR.  Another 'stick him at athlete and figure it out later' kid.
