Board improvment suggestions

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on
Thought this could be a pretty good thread. I would like to see a column added to the board that always shows who the op is as well as the most recent poster. My only other suggestion would be to add a mgboard button on the bottom of threads so that you don't have to scroll all the way to the top to return to an updated board. Any other ideas?

I agree. I would also like to see a thread rating system in addition to the up/down votes for posts, so, user's can rate a whole thread on a scale of 1-5... because sometimes, an OP will be good, but the thread will be crappy, and vice versa sometimes an OP will be crap but if you read the replies they're good. This added feedback mechanism would help further sort the signal from the noise.

I am opposed to refreshing as well. However, if it were to be done, you can have it check to see if you are typing a comment before it refreshes. I would rather see AJAX implemented to get new comments, but I don't really see that happening.

Apparently, judging by his response, which shows an obvious lack of netiquitte or social skills, the poster to whom you refer is trying very hard to experience the banhammer, so the problem might take care of itself soon.

Since we're on the topic of points and suggestions and whatnot. I have a question- when you neg the OP, does that effect their point total? Because the points next to the post never changes. By the way I'm not saying I want to neg you, this is something I've genuinely wondered about.

At first I thought this was the Dr. Saturday (aka Hinton) and got a little excited (I don't know why). Based on your avatar, though, I would guess you are not Matt Hinton.

Also, avatars. I think you should never be allowed to change your avatar. Stick with it once you choose one. I identify people by avatar first and foremost and screen name second... if i see a familiar avatar, I know who it is so when people change their avatars it's just confusing. also, people shouldn't be allowed to choose an avatar that's already in use. Every now and then I see someone else w/ my exact avatar and it creeps me out b/c it's like meeting my MGoDoppleganger.

People just post. They don't worry about their audience. They don't try to impress anyone. They don't force the irreverence. They don't try to audition to be writers for the WLA or any other blog. They just POST. They have fun. They don't take it too seriously, and don't take college football too seriously. And most of all, they don't try to pose as some moral authority on anything. Just....have....some....fucking....fun....goddammit

please don't take my ability to post threads based on points, I don't have the time to respond or start new threads all the time. When I get a few hours to myself, which is seldom then I like to post news I've read or talk about issues. Sometimes I have started a few threads on a particular day but then days go by where I don't post anything. So please don't sacrifice the many to kill off the few.

It should more be about how long you have been on here as well as points. If you have a year it should be worth something, say 500. 2 years 1000 etc. That way people like you and I who post occasionally or in spurts don't get banged. I have been on here for a long time and joined around a year and a half after I started reading. I am not saying I have the greatest threads/posts on here but I don't post just to post and if I have something i am interested in putting on here I don't want to be restricted. Most posters, probably 90% on here who repeatedly post meaningless threads or just post to post are new or never get on here enough to know what has already been posted or don't care etc.

Yeah, I'm like you. I've been on here since the old Wolverine Den shut down and everyone migrated to this "new" site some guy named Brian was running. That was about 3 years ago?!? I finally joined last spring. It has been interesting to watch the evolution of the blog from my position.

I'd like every link to open in a new tab/window automatically (i.e. without my right click action). Often with so many links buried in each main blog post, I like to be able to click them as I'm reading and keep the original story up so I can finish reading. And then even if I'm finished reading that post, I like this site enough to just want to keep it open in general so I can refresh every so often and get the latest posts. Just my humble .02. Edit: Just realized we're talking "board" here and not "blog"...but I suppose my suggestion is universal. I mean it moreso for the blog though.
