but that is a big step down.

What???? How do you go from 9 wins a year at Nebraska to a D1-AA program? I doesnt feel right.

Maybe he wanted to be near his relatives in a relaxed fan base. Also, he knows all of the cats in the neighborhood!

Dude most definitely could have landed a better job than that. Strange.
December 9th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
...getting $7.6M from Nebraska without even having to coach there. I think dude has just scheduled a couple years off before he returns in 2017 to take the Oklahoma job and leave the rest of the Big 12 a smoking ruin of rage and cat fur.

Come on. Roussel has a lot of connections in the coaching community. He runs in those circles. Ask any college coach at any level what they think of the guy and they will have good things to say.
His musings on the Michigan search have been nonsense. But that is because he's been hearing these things - search is unorganized, etc. - from coaches who have been reached out to. Well, no shit it's gonna seem like an unorganized search if we're reaching out to dozens of candidates, with no rhyme or reason, while we wait for Harbaugh to finish his business.
FootballScoop doesn't belong in the same sentence as Ace Williams.

Weren't these the guys who also just fanned on Kiffin winning the Broyles Award?

But if I recall correctly they were also the first to report Nussmeier to UM as the replacement for Borges.

Anybody can claim to have sources and connections. The truth is Footballscoop has been absolutely terrible the last 10 days. The fact that they keep getting things wrong but still try to be the first on everything tells you it's a garbage site.

Learn how to stretch rules/ethics at YSU, win a championship or two and then take the approach to the big time?

No. It's happening, and it's fascinating.

WTF, has he lost his mind? From winning 9 - 10 games every year at a big time program to now seemingly going backwards to the lower division? He could have made more just doing color commentary or doing a cat show on Animal Planet network.

I read somewhere that Pelini's contract says Nebraska has to keep paying him unless he takes another FBS coaching job. YSU is actually not a bad choice for him - he gets to collect two paychecks and keep being a head coach at what has historically been a pretty good program.

Speaking of coaches and their next stop:
Don't have enough points to post a new topic, and this is from Gregg Henson so take it for whatever, but he has a source that allegedly has received communication regarding Greg Mattison's post-Hoke activities. Supposedly he has a bevy of NFL job offers, but is open to returning to Michigan if the right coach is brought in. (Note: he doesn't think it will be Harbaugh because of the salary cost...) In the interim, he is still espousing the merits of being/staying a Wolverine to current players.
December 9th, 2014 at 10:53 PM ^
Interesting. Would be even more interesting if we knew who the "young defensive player" was, whose parents Mattison reassured:
"Mattison assured the young player’s parents that their kid is absolutely at the right place and that he will be a star at Michigan."

If this is true, then Michigan MUST hire a better candidate than Pelini. We'll look singularly stupid and incompetent otherwise.
December 9th, 2014 at 10:35 PM ^
Nobody else is reporting this. These guys at Football Scoop are nuts. I will wait for the shit to hit the fan on this one.
