Bo and Woody photo

Submitted by SagNasty on

I want to get some opinions on a photo I have considered purchasing. The photo is of Bo and Woody talking before a game. I have always thought this was a great photo. I hate Ohio more than anything, but I think the photo is great and would be awesome in a michigan man cave. I am not sure about having anything ohio in my home but I love rivalry

I have the same exact picture in a frame in my basement. These two represent what the rivalry is all about. Without these two, the game might not be what it is today. I hate ohio more than anything, but these are the two most iconic guys that have ever coached in the rivalry.

Being born and raised in ohio, I learned to hate Ohio fans and know that they don't have the capacity to respect this picture and what it means to the rivalry. If an ohio fan happens to be in your glorious Michigan man cave and sees that picture it will drive them crazy for months. Go Blue!

Agreeing with the Badger dude because I feel like Michigan & Ohio are both deserving of being in the unique tier we have invented for just us two.  I know we hate them, but come on - we put them above everyone else, don't we?  There's a reason for that.  They are the mightiest opponent.  We give them our best, they give us ours, we measure ourselves against each other.  It's glorious.  You can only hate so much, but that hate should be equaled by the joy of competition.  Otherwise, you're just gonna be an angry person.

Also, badgers.  I think I've stalked you once before.

That is an iconic photo, and it harkens back to a day when rivalries were intense but the coaches had mutual respect and even friendship.

On the field they were the fiercest of rivals ... off the field they had a friendship going back decades.  It was a beautiful, gracious thing.

i always imagine that Bo is telling Woody that his Michigan team is about to stop the snot out of Woody's Buckeyes......and Woody, knowing his fate, simply puts his head down in shame.

I could never put a picture of Woody Hayes on my wall.  Dude punched a player in the throat.

I think that punch was the last, desperate act of a man who had more or less lost it. To hear OSU players talk about the last few years of Hayes's time as head coach, he was becoming more and more erratic and probably should have been forced out long before.

As much as I hate OSU, Hayes was an incredibly impressive man who had a very strong, positive affect on the world around him.

What year was the photo taken, and more importantly, did UM win that game? If they won it's a great photo with a great retort for anyone who questions your choice of putting that great iconic photo on your wall.

My first trip to Columbus.  We we beat OSU 22-0.  It was actually when they started murmuring about replacing Woody.  There's never been a greater triumph in Columbus in my lifetime than that game.

I remember the light that day.  It had been cold the night before; but it turned into a nice sunny day on Saturday in '76.  In '78 it was gray skies.

The giveaway I think is Woody's jacket.  In '78 he had a warmer red coat with no script "Ohio State Coaching Staff" on the chest.

I'm in the lower percentile but I personally love the pic. These were the golden years of the rivalry. For as much as I hate ohio, Michigan wouldn't be Michigan without Ohio and Ohio wouldn't be Ohio without Michigan. I love the rivalry and these two took it to a whole new level. I would hang that photo without any shame.

I've thought of getting this picture as a solemn reminder of the dark ages. It helps make the sugar bowls all the sweeter.

Your picture of Stonum: I honestly think it's beautiful in a sad kind of way. Just showing how much emotional investment we all have in a game played by 18-22 year olds that we expect the world out of. If you're into that kind of thing, I think it's a perfect picture.

Bo and Woody: In HBO's The Rivalry, one of the best quotes (IMO) was about their friendship. One of the people being interviewed says something to the effect of "These guys spend 364 days working with the single focus of beating the other guy on the remaining day; who could possibly understand your life better than the guy on the other sideline?" I hate Ohio as much as the next guy here, but our rivalry is fucking sacred, and that's what Bo and Woody together mean to me. Go for it.

Purchase it. Its a no brainer. There's alot of respect in this picture....something you don't see too much of these days in sports.

A few years ago I bought a pair of red and grey Nike running shoes and threw them away a month later after my family made fun of me wearing OSU colors.

They were nike free's and i actually loved them until a buddy of mine from Cleveland told me the exact same thing. Dumpster bound the same day! Too funny.

I always wondered what the conversation was like between them when the picture was taken.    Maybe something like "Did you hear Michigan St. thinks they can fuck with us?" That's why they are both grinning.

You can gave the utmost respect for someone while still hating them, and that's how I and many other Michigan fans feel about Woody. That being said, this a great, classic picture, and anyone on either side of this rivalry would/should appreciate it. I say get it.

judging from the background in the photo, and also how old Bo looks and what he is wearing...Im going to guess that it was taken in Ohio, possibly the 1974 game, the infamous game where Mike Lantry made the kick at the end, but the refs didnt count it.

I got to think I would stick it up in the cave.  It's the frame work of the entire rivalry as we know it today.

I have a 100th game, UTL, and a Bo pic ( purchased a couple years back at the spring game), all waiting to get put up on the walls in the newly finished cave.  Just have my signed Hart Jersey, and a couple other items righ now.

If I run across one of these and the price is right, I may take a flyer on it, and frame it.
