Submitted by Section 1 on

Michigan (BlogPoll Week 2: #19) beats Air Force (unranked, 0 votes), 31-25.

Arizona (unranked, 0 votes) beats Oklahoma St. (BlogPoll #15), 59-38.

So where do you, BlogPoll voter, place Michigan (1-1) and Arizona (2-0)?

I'm happy with the progress Hoke has made, I don't hate Rich Rodriguez. I liked the guy, I liked what he was trying to do with the program taking it a different direction and gave us the human highlight reel in Denard. He was left with an empty cupboard of some hapless players and unfortunately surrounded himself with some questionable assistants. I hope he does well with Arizona. To me it's rather arrogant to hate on a guy who was one of our coaches. Half his problem here was a lack of support from alum and fanbase...you'd have thought we were in Columbus expecting undefeated seasons or a lynching toward the end. Some of you folks can be real pricks about pointless stuff...it's your way, or it's wrong and unacceptable. Whatever. GO BLUE. THANK YOU FOR HOKE, GOOD LUCK RR.

and part of my statement with surrounding himself with poor assistants, GERG is an understatement and he was real high on Shaffer, who didn't really do much for him...keeping in perspective as well that he was left with nearly zero talent to work with it was a bad scenario.

I'll admit his recruiting was suspect to boot, I think the WVA mentality of landing one or two 3* and filling in with whoever might sign probably set the bar a bit low but a few of the kids he picked up have turned out to be pretty solid players. Our defense even Mattison 2.0 is still making similar mistakes with whimpy ass arm tackles and leaving gaping holes in the secondary, struggles to shut down the edge etc. FAIR ENOUGH it's vastly improved, and leagues ahead of the last few seasons...but there is much work still to do.

My disappointment is with the OP and with out of touch fans like yourself... Why stir up muddy waters? You say RR didnt have any supporters, but your going to pick apart one of the best defensive minds with petty arguments and by using CAPS to highlight your frustration?!

WHO CARES!?!? What's done is done!

Section 1, you should be a politician.  I love how you drive home a point without explicitly mentioning it.  Those are some skills.

I liked RR too, he didn't get a fair shake from the administration.  He did get a fair shake from the fans though  No matter the crappy behind the scenes circumstances, you must produce wins.  I'm glad he's gone, hope he does good in Arizona.

I almost admire this guy.

For a gross and irresponsible analogy, he reminds me of colonel gaddafi in his stubborn persistence and imposition on others.  No matter how unwanted and rejected, he's sticking to his guns and seeing to it that everyone know about it.  S1 is not a waffler, but instead a fearless iconoclast.

And he says 'here is your throat back, thanks for the loan,' which, while coerced and therefore not so much a loan, nevertheless gets wrapped in similarly benign packaging and accomplishes its aim without a hint of hesitation or fear of reprisal.  Like the early roman kings.

One more gross and irresponsible statement - you might need to read Plutarch in order to understand S1.

If what RR got from the neanderthal segment of the Michigan fanbase was anything remotely resembling a "fair shake," you had better hope Brady Hoke never has a bad season.

What if Michigan loses four this year?  Are those same people going to second-guess Hoke and Borges?  When a professional who is getting paid to analyze the game does it, it's one thing.  But when fans start complaining, it's another issue altogether.

Michigan beat a clever and semi-talented Air Force team yesterday, but I don't get the idea that anyone is happy about it.  As Arkansas and Oklahoma State learned yesterday, games like yesterday's can turn out a lot worse for the favored team than getting a hard-fought victory like Michigan did.

Better question, should Toledo be ranked ahead of Michigan too? They took that Arizona juggernaut to overtime -- on the road! -- just one week ago!

It's called perspective.

Well, Ok State wasn't exactly a powerhouse this year and nobody really thought they would be as the season went on.  Arizona beat them in a good way, but they still have one solid win and like I said, this isn't the OSU (ok state) of last year.  For now, I would put Michigan up a spot or 2 on Arizona, but early season rankings in general are just horrible.  In my opinion, there should be no official rankings until week 5.  Most of them are so massively flawed that there's almost no point in ranking them

I would think you have to move Arizona into the 20-18 range.

Michigan is a bit harder as I subscribe to the theory that we don't know much about this team yet. Bama was vastly superior, and everything about AF falls into a category of anamoly. Maybe 22ish?

It's looking like it will be a rough year in the Big 10.

Michigan will move up to 15 or so, Arizona will crack the top 25.

If we were going just on merit based on results thus far, I'd put Arizona in the top 10, with full expectations they would drop within the next two weeks.

I said based on current results.

Whose got a better win than undefeated Arizona right now?

I'd put UCLA up there as well.

Alabama? LSU last night against Washington? Clemson? Georgia?

Teams that will be in the top 10 like USC, MSU, WVU, South Carolina, FSU, etc. haven't really done anything of note yet.

But by the end, they'll probably all be ranked ahead of Arizona.

Well, Arizona has ties to Michigan now for obvious reasons. Anyone who cant see this is being unreasonable. There's going to be an interest into how Arizona does, so I'd get used to it.

Some people will be genuinely happy for RR after the hell he went through here if they succeed. Others, due to wanting so badly to be right about him being the worst thing that ever happened to Michigan football - saw it a bit last night in the open thread - will revel in any failure and hope he bombs out so that they don't have to deal with the consequences of realizing that maybe, just maybe, they were a bit hasty in forming their lynch mob.

I'd rank OSU over Arizona and UCLA just behind. UL-Monroe would jump into the top 15, but no higher due to the fact that they are 1-0, it was an OT win and Arkansas lost Wilson.

I think that the arizona win speaks more to the weaknesses of ok state more than the strengths of Arizona. Preseason rankings are a joke. There should be a rule that no team coached by John L Smith is ever ranked in the top 25.

Arizona went 4-8 last year, had one of the very worst defenses in the country, and at one point last season were riding a streak of 10 straight losses to FBS competition.

Ok State is at worst a middle of the pack team in a BCS conference.  Beating them by 3 TDs is pretty impressive under the circumstances.

I agree to a point, but I'm not sure OSU is up to middling BCS rating yet this season.   OSU had a weak defense last year (ranked 107 in total defense, 61 in scoring defense).  They won by scoring bunches of points.  But with their QB and top WR now playing in the NFL, there is a steep dropoff in talent and experience.  They now start a true Fr at QB and have no go-to receiver.  They still managed to put up over 600 yards of offense but also set a school record for penalty yards.
