Bleacher Report: Sources: Jim Harbaugh Expected to Take Michigan Job

Submitted by MGoVictory on

More of IT"S HAPPENING. The sources for this are from the NFL side though, including two members of the 49ers staff.

Two members of the San Francisco 49ers staff and a third NFL source said Saturday they expect 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh to accept a six-year, $48 million contract to become the head coach of the University of Michigan.
"That's what everybody on staff believes is going to happen this week," one of the sources said. "Jim has figured out that his style is best-suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years."

Also contains some interesting information about possible assistants.

In addition, he is expected to bring several coaches from the 49ers with him, including longtime assistants Reggie Davis and John Morton, according to sources.

Bleacher report caveats apply, but that quote is just about the most positive yet. If he really thinks he's better for college his "inevitable" return to the NFL may never come to fruition.

Wasn't happy when Michigan originally scheduled to start the season on a Thursday, but now I'm glad I'll have two less days to wait for the season to start.

reporting or those who give you information that gets filtered through people you don't really want to believe? As always, make your own judgment about the value of the information made public and never judge based on the alleged attribution. Everyone has sources. Some are better than others.

So staff rumors thus far:

HC - Jim

DC - Durkin

LB - Mattison

OL - Reggie Davis(possibly TE)

TE - Andy Moeller(possibly OL)

WR - John Morton

DB - ?

DL - ?

RB - Wheatley with some kind of shared OC duties.

Special teams - ?

Mattison has no problem coaching DL, so maybe he would be the DL guy and Manning would be retained as the LB coach?

I haven't heard any rumors on that.  But, I like the idea of Mattison as DL coach and Manning as the LB guy.  Both are excellent recruiters and would give the new staff some continuity with the players (at least on the defensive side).  As much as we all love Fred Jackson, it's time for a change.  And now is as good a time as any to bring home Ty Wheatley.

John Morton wr coach/pass game coordinator and Ty Wheatley rbs/run game coordinator perhaps. Will we have an actual OC then or just split it between those two? Who will call the plays- has Jim ever handled play calling in the past? If I'm not mistaken Morton was USC's OC for a couple years, maybe he will handle play calling?
