Blake Countess Headed To Auburn
a transfer from us, I think it's only fair if we return the favor!
I wonder if this is part of the reason why they released him to Michigan, to get Countess. I'm very happy for Countess and wish him the best of luck at Auburn.
Maybe that is why Gus changed his mind on his transfers who want to leave Auburn and he initially said no to a transfer to Michigan. Good to see he isn't using players like pawns.
That may be true, but I think Gus changed his mind because 200,000 Michigan fans went crazy on him on Twitter and created a huge backlash from the rest of the country.
I think it was because he wanted to pick up Countess.
I doubt Gus gives a crap about what we think of him, and Auburn fans sure as hell don't care.
Gus doesn't care what we think, but he does care what ESPN says about him and his program and there were several higher ups who were very critical of his decision to not allow someone to transfer to a certain school because of his personal opinions.
You get offended really easily.
Or maybe it was Harbaugh that was originally blocking Blake's transfer to Auburn? I don't have any inside scoop, but given the facts so far, either scenario is plausible.
You need a reason Harbaugh would block that transfer. Good luck with that.
Then you have Auburn taking a PR hit without a peep from them, Countess or anyone else. If Harbaugh was blocking Countess from transferring there, we would have heard plenty about it. Especially since that's where he wanted to go.
This sucks. I was really hoping he would stay. Wish him the best.
Best of luck to Blake. In the right system he can definitely excel.
Not sure what type of system that would be.
Pop on the Kansas State bowl game tape from two years ago and get back to us. He was getting torched on double moves on plays where he gave 8-10 yards of cushion.
He was a kid that regressed over his time here. Whether or not a lot of that can be attributed to his knee injury, I don't know.
The season after his knee injury he had an All-B1G season with 6 INTs (1st the B1G) as a true junior in 2013. He didnt regress until last year when UM tried to implement press coverage more widely. There's no reason to believe he would not be good again in a zone scheme.
I'll take that kind of "regression" all day. Kid wasn't a press cover guy but doesn't mean he isn't talented or "regressed" as the earlier poster indicated. That's just silly.

I wish he went somewhere else, but what do I matter. I hope he plays well and gets to the NFL. Moreso, I hope his team does well, only to blow it to an average B1G team in the bowls
Interesting turn of events... I'm curious if Blake pursued Auburn or if they came after him just to take a jab at Michigan (i.e. Harbaugh)
Once a guy decides to transfer, I don't really see it as a jab for a program out of conference and not on the schedule to take him. What does it matter? If it was a rival or someone on the schedule, then there might be a poke there, but even then I seriously doubt it factors into a schollie decision. AU took him because they think he improves their team. Period.
1. Malzahn spoke out about the Harbaugh summer camps
2. The Auburn AD made this comment: "It seems to benefit some schools that may be in the past had a history of success and now don't so they're trying to grow their brand a little bit more."
3. Auburn safety Derrick Moncrief had a potential transfer to Michigan blocked and then allowed in what was certainly an odd series of events
While limited, there is some recent history here
I totally understand the history, and I think AU would like to take a jab. I just think landing a 5th year transfer is not a jab unless you're a rival or on the schedule. So, the motivation is there, but if they took Blake to take a jab (even in part) they failed, IMHO.
You must really dislike the kid to wish him to go down to have anything to do with the cesspool that is any defense RR is associated with, even with his WVA D coordinator running the 3 3 5 shit show.
C'mon man...Arizona isn't THAT bad. They were a top 10 team last season and one of the more entertaining teams to watch. If you're going to cheer for a former Wolverine, then Arizona is good as any to cheer for. Auburn on the other hand was a hot mess defensively, which is why they fired their DC and brought in Muschamp.
The cesspool of a defense that has been better than Michigan in advanced metrics 2 of the last 3 years...
A true sophomore who was pretty much not recruited by anybody out of high school. I'm sure he's super pissed to be associated with that "shit show".
I'm assuming the Count did his homework, but does Auburn use a lot of zone?
I hope Auburn does well with Blake...and we beat them in the playoff.
What the hell, Countess wasn't kicked out of Michigan, he's a good kid, I thought getting the boot was a prereq to transferring to Auburn?
Thanks for wearing the winged helmet. Really enjoyed watching you play, bon chance, fine sir.
You'll always have Notre Dame.
As will Tate.
As will Denard.
As will Devin.
As will Woodley.
Damn, I miss them already.
Gus Malzahn pays homeless guys to choke him in the shower.
Hopefully Blake doesn't have to see any of that.
Can you post a link to the origination of this meme? I missed it and am now confused on so many posts.
joke from an old Family Guy episode that I saw recently. The family decided to start a rumor about Rob Schneider and decided that "he picks up immigrants from Home Depot to choke him in the shower" was believable.
I changed it a bit.
Good Luck Mr. Countess. I also saw a few rumors browsing Twitter today about Ondre Pipkens on his way out. Any truth to this? I hope not, I love that kid. He has so much potential.
Yeah, Pip's been at the top of my "Next to Leave" list for a long time. Definitely sad about that one. Injuries, early promise, etc. But team's gotta change somehow, I guess.
And yeah, more departures coming, I believe...
I believe he means that it has been suggested for some guys to take medical hardships and such, but they are not giving up quite yet.
Hope we don't lose any more players, but what is the time table on these "decisions'? Pipkins and Fox? We've heard Drak Harris was given a June or July deadline to get healthy? Seems there are still rumblings of another 2-3 healthy transfers as well.
I know discussion of this stuff is frowned upon, but you'd think we'd have heard more by now if guys were really leaving.
Should we stop throwing rocks at Tom Crean if our house may be made of glass?
No. We can always throw rocks at Tom Crean.
