There is no reason to be 2nd tier to "those schools" if you are recruiting in the 20s even.  WIscy, MSU and Stanford usually have classes in the 30s, and 40s and they do just fine.  People are very defeatist here because they believe if you dont get top 10 classes you have no chance competing - maybe that says a lot about the coaching we've had, even with the latter Carr years.  I looked up Missouri's classes for fun going into the SEC title game and they are no great shakes and they went right into the SEC and competed and were a few plays away from being in the NC game.

So I think people let the coaches off too easy with the "if we dont get a class of 8-10 every year we cannot compete".   Oregon has had the same average class rank as us for 7 years and seems to be doing just fine.

I respectfully disagree.  While I will defer to you for football Xs and Os, I think your take on this is off.  He listed Michigan as the school he is most interested in visiting, and he was not solicited to do so.  This is directly after the 2013 season.  So, no, I do not think 2013 ruined it for the good guys.

That being said, I'm not exactly penciling him into the 2015 class already, but if 2013 was a deal breaker, please explain why his interest in us is still piqued.

Magnus, I am not sure I understand your point.  It may be the case that QBs usually commit early, but Rosen hasn't committed anywhere yet--so I am not sure how the lack of an early committment disadvantages one school vs. another.  Are you saying that Michigan QBs usually commit early?   Or are you saying that it's already too late in the process for Michigan, and that he's likely to choose among schools he's already been considering for a long time?

Yes a strange story as Rosen was - unlike most kids that early in the cycle - quite an adament "not interested".  Usually kids will at least say something like 'Michigan is cool, lots of tradition" when asked about interest even if they are not really that interested, but he was far more "naaaah".  Bit of a head scratcher. 

If Stanford was not recruiting him I'd get my hopes up a bit more but at this point its a school that offers an equal/better conference, with equal/better academics, and right now in past half decade a better program coming off a Rose Bowl and multiple BCS appearances.  And running a very similar offense, and I'd argue a more stable coaching situation.  Plus it is in his backyard.

So the tables are a bit turned, for decades any head to head Michigan v Stanford you'd give a huge advantage to UM, but right now they win a lot of head to head battles of pro v con, aside from history.  That is sort of the one school right now you don't want to go up against if you are UM since you can't even throw the "oh yeah our academics" card out there.

But it is nice to hear I suppose the door is not 100% closed.

And let him know how much we love our Jewish athletes at Michigan. Maybe he's a historian and would like to hear how we have been a welcoming place for Jewish athletes since way back. He could be this generations Benny Friedman. For those who don't know that name google it.

Sam Webb this morning said he believes - his thought only, no one told him this - is that until M gets a QB commit for 2015, that Town could be in play.  He did affirm publically that Alabama is his school, but he and Nuss had a great relationship, and Town had interest in Michigan prior to committing to UA.  Out on the fringe though.

Interestingly it was Saban who was in California last week, committing a recruiting violation by talking with Rosen at his school.

Saban, amazing that he thinks that the rules don't apply to him? Or is he that stupid? (Which I don't think he is). So, he's willingly breaking rules, no surprise to many of us, but is out in the open about it.

I will also say that I am enjoying this effort to renew momentum in recruiting - particularly at certain positions - ever since the Nussmeier hire. It seems like he is being given the space to recruit and build the offense as he sees fit, which is great. It will be interesting to see how this will affect the composition of the 2015 later this year as we enter the latter half of the 2015 cycle (or rather, as we are actually playing the 2014 season).

As much as I like hearing this, I think we have to face the fact that once Stanford offers (why wouldn't they at some point?), it's all over....unless Shaw goes to the NFL I guess and even then, he still probably goes there.

But let's not ignore the fact that he is a top 10 overall prospect who looks like he really knows how to run an offense as a high schooler.  He could probably come in and challenge for the starting job as a true freshman, so that might be a reason for him to look closely at Michigan.  It looks like the approach to recruiting QB's may be a little different this cycle, and Nuss seems to be a big name on the west coast.  There's plenty of reason to be excited for any chance at this kid, even if the chances of landing him are slim.

Everyone who does recruit analysis for a living disagrees with you. 

Of course they're not always right, but usually when they put a QB in the top 5 overall for a class.. he's pretty good. But he's not in the "same mold" as Morris and Speight.. he's not a rocket arm QB like Morris and not a giant slinger like Speight but he's probably the most polished and precise passer in the 2015 class. 

I don't see how anyone can not be at least a little thankful he's actually considering Michigan again.
