Bill Muckalt officially introduced as Associate Head Coach

News in the title. This was expected but officially announced today. I think the only new information here is that he's not just an assistant coach but an associate head coach. Makes you wonder if we're already lining up the guy to follow Mel when he retires.

I think the title of Assoc. HC just signifies his greater experience and responsibility re: team  & program mgmnt.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you re: grooming for HC just that the title doesn't provide extra evidence, it's just a result.

It establishes the relative position of the 2 assistant coaches.  For years, Pearson was Associate Head Coach and Powers the Assistant Coach.  When Pearson left, Powers was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Wiseman became Assistant Coach.

Now we have the clear indication that Muckalt is the #1 person on Pearson's staff, not that this is surprising at all.

How much to endow his title to "Cake or Death and Mrs. Cake or Death and Family Associate Head Coach"?  I want to see that every time is title is referenced...

Mel Pearson is still hiring his staff.  He's 3 months away from holding his first practice as Michigan head coach.  And we're already theorizing succession plans for his impending retirement?

How old does everybody think he is?  Seriously. Don't look it up. Is he 80, yet?  Probably pretty close.  Maybe mid-70s?

Hint:  Back when John Beilein was Mel Pearson's age, Trey Burke was busy averaging 23 points per game... for Northland High School.
