Everyone saying it takes time to get back. I understand this. Problem is we already had a 4 game losing streak to OSU before he arrived. Now we are looking at the possiability of a 6-7 year slide against them! I just wish we could beatvthem this year. For me that would buy Rich Rod another year or two no problem.

The losing streak hurts, for sure. (And this year, hey, you never know. Stranger stuff has happened -- a little luck, a couple turnovers, a big play or two.) But it really does take time to come back, and that's just the harsh reality. I don't think there's a coach in the country who could have coached last year's talent to a win against Ohio State. The coaching doesn't take time to get back to strength -- the recruiting and personnel do.

I have this vision. Big house in a frenzy, Pryor walking deflated to the sidelines after an ill-timed interception, sweater vest glancing down at his laminated coaching document, then up with a kind of "alright so maybe this wasn't the best game for the throwbacks" type look. If RR wants to buy himself some time, a victory over OSU this year and snatching a Rose Bowl birth from their grasp would allow him a really deap breath before his do or die stretch. I'd guess that he feels the same way. Desperation breeds innovation. Not that we are at all good enough to "save things" for a particular team, but I do believe that there are likely a couple of up-the-sleeve type moves that RR will bring out for that game. Would be a HUGE game to win.

Seems doing their throwback thing for this game is particularly rude given how Michigan is suffering - they should have done it for a home game, but whatever. Class is not Tressel's strong suit. Everyone wants to dump on Michigan this year - this is their big chance. At some point in the next few years things are going to turn and there is going to be an especially satisfying run of payback games. Purdue first and foremost with that idiot Hope. These two games are winnable.

You do realize that this throwback thing is part of a larger Nike thing this year, and that Tressel expressed some reservations about it when he was asked his opinion on the whole thing? OSU, Texas, TCU, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and a couple other schools are wearing the "pro combat" uniform templates that weekend, and it just happens that OSU's is a "throwback" inspiration instead of some space age futuristic crap. Nike foisted this on the schools, not the other way around.

I'm guessing it's because almost everyone in the media now believes that the season is ruined and that there will be no bowl game. And most people in the media are running it into the ground. That means that they will be deluged with "hot seat" and "no bowl" questions for the rest of the season unless they pull off an upset. Sorry, MSM, but I refuse to write off the OSU game. I bet the team won't be writing it off, either.

I do think they can win. I think the team feels they can win. I quess I am letting the national media get to me. It sucks to always hear how we are not good anymore and we are lower tier. I can't even imagine how RR feels. I hope we ruin thier season and send the back to the armpit of America with that stupid ass mascot.

I mean, Martin will be out as AD basically at the start of next season, when they'll already have a new AD ready to take over. Seems to me this is a non relevant statement since I dont think anyone really thinks there's much of a chance of Rich being fired after this season. It's next season and a new AD that will decide everything.

Kind of -- terrifyingly -- reminds me of Syracuse's hiring of GERG in 2005. Outgoing AD Jake Crouthamel pledged support to (floundering, but in a 6-5 kind of way) Paul Pasqualoni, and the Chancellor Nancy Cantor supported "that Paul be retained." But Crouthamel retired some months later, and when the new (universally loathed) AD Darryl Gross stepped in, he wasted almost no time in canning Pasqualoni and hiring Robinson. I'm sure you all know what has happened to Syracuse football since; it's not even a shell of the program that thumped Michigan in 1998 anymore. Now, the last few years of the Coach P Era were terrible, and there was a large contingent of the fanbase calling for his head. I'm NOT saying the Syracuse AD was wrong in making a move; it's a different situation that Michigan's. And the way that program was headed, they had to do something because the status quo was not working (a la Michigan in 2007). But a new AD coming in and making a move to shake things up because it's his town, now, dammit... I just hope for Michigan's sake that it doesn't happen in Ann Arbor. Not for a few years. Because Syracuse fans would KILL to be a perennial 8-4ish, fringe Top 20-type team again, with the occasional breakout BCS year. KILL. Making a rash move in the heat of the moment can murder a program, and I really hope Martin's replacement will understand that.
