Big Tex staying with Arkansas?

Submitted by bouje on
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but does anyone know if this guy has any credibility or if anyone has talked to Big Tex since the visit? http://recruiting.arkansasonline.com/index.php/2009/11/24/talked-to-big… (also got the link from recruiting planet) I'd like to believe that this isn't true and that we still have a shot at him especially with everything that we've heard about him wanting to commit on the spot. Thoughts?

In other news involving Arkansas: FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Reggie Holmes scored 34 points, including a pair of free throws with 6.3 seconds remaining to lead Morgan State past Arkansas 97-94 Tuesday night. Ha. Ha.

I know just as much as "the recruiting guy", and I'm certainly no TomVH, but I'm just saying.. Moms take some time to warm up to ideas they're uncomfortable with. As soon as she's comfortable with it, he'll commit. He's just gotta play it cool and let her get used to the idea of him playing far away from home. Then it's a done deal. Then again, what the hell do I know?!?!?

Well, I guess for clarity I'll notch myself just above Dandy Don, a ways behind the recruiting guy, and light years behind TVH, obviously. So, when I said "I know just as much as the recruiting guy" what I meant was every now and then I get a hunch right and I kinda have a hunch he's telling the home town team what they want to hear. But "hunches" about 18 year old kids deciding where to spend the next 4 years of their lives is quite fruitless, yet, fun for some reason... Signing day can't get here soon enough!

Not sure which ones.. 3 if you count Sheridan and 4 if you count the man known as "da cone" (or Kennedy) conelius-split wide drob/ rb (why haven't we moved him there argggghhhh!) Tate under center dg- wr big Tex... Wherever big Tex wants to be Kennedy- clipboard Sheridan-offensive mastermind cone-rapping (this post had lots of sarcasms)

you forgot a couple guys...Williams (unless he can learn to tackle) Obi (Seriously, I loved you coming into the year...WHAT HAPPENED LEARN THE PLAYS...I want, no need, you to be good again) and Kovacs (although he put up a great effort this year in spite of his lack of god given talent). We need legitimate players at these positions and we will be back on out way to national prominence. (If Tate matures, which as a student, I am worried about. Please be good I want you save the Big House).

I love the quote in the comments that says "he see's where we are going vs Michigan". With Bobby Petrino you never know where you are going. He is a great offensive mind but he might have found another team and quit before most of us wake up. He seems to have a habbit of that.

at that quote too, but then when I thought about it, I imagine if you're looking from the outside at Michigan (from afar, through national media, etc.) and you see what's happened the last couple of years, this is probably just not a homer Hog opinion. He's got a point--in comparison, they're the more stable program at the moment as much as it pains me to say it. But you also got a great point about Petrino. The guy's a mercenary. Hog fans seem to be in denial about that.

As far as HS recruiting goes, I used to get much more excited than I do now. I prefer to wait until commit day in Feb and even with that, you still are never sure. Look what happened this summer with ACT scores and an algebra grade which needed to be raised. It is fun, however, to speculate.

Did anyone else read all of the posts on that site. I know they are from Arkansas, but some of those people are not smart. Some of their quotes: "Just one a year has kept OSU from winning a National Championship for the last 3 years and they have sure whipped Michigan for what the last 4 or 5 times straight. Hey, stay COOL, wait you’re in Michigan, right, I mean stay COLD" Wow to that number one, and apparently we didn't beat Florida and Tebow 2 years ago. That guy is really smart. "By the way…Mallett saw the Rich Rod and split big blue…." Pretty sure everyone in the country knows why Mallett transferred out of an offense that didn't fit him. This makes a point I was thinking about too. On the Herd the other day, Colin was talking about how the SEC will go to any lengths just to win football games. They sacrafice academics and everything else in many cases, and stop at nothing to get W's. I myself appreciate the academics and everything else at UM, but it just seems like the people down there don't get it. Like Cowherd said it is a win at any cost down there. Would you rather root for a school like this, or a school that keeps it's values like M?

i'm sure its common knowledge by now that i go to eastern not U of M (unless you're new to the site). I would rather root for a team that won at all costs, because winning is fun, but I would rather go to a school with standards and high academic values. Thats what makes U of M great, you have a team who will get the fan base wins (past and future fans bases, not so much present, but what are you gonna do) along with values and academics. But I guess as part of a student body not involved with sports, my main concern would be with my education, not the football players education. Ignorance is bliss, if the team was winning, I would enjoy football, not think about the athletes, get my degree, and wish them the best of luck getting to the next level. EDIT: I'm only talking about education and winning at all costs, not stuff like suspensions and such. Things like the Kansas coach and the MSU players that got dismissed, if winning means keeping them but they are found to have grossly violated the rules, they need to go. But education and football is a 2 way street. While the coaches at these schools might not care about the players education, if the player does he will be able to get a good one. If not, he has to share some of the blame himself

FWIW Tom Beaver said this morning that whatever rumors that are going around about Big Tex not considering Michigan anymore are completely false. Big Tex is apparently thinking very hard about this decision and was completely blown away by his visit. I think we all need to take a breath. The kid JUST visited for the first time and is making the most important decision of his life right now. Give it some time.
