Big Ten Network Question

Submitted by Gulo Blue on

I just made the jump from rabbit ears to paying for TV.  Now that I have access to the Big Ten Network, I'd like to know if there's a way to see the schedule filtered for just Michigan related stuff.  I've searched the website, but the only option I found involved text message alerts.  So has anyone figured this out?  How do I get a schedule of just the stuff that relates to Michigan?

With sites like Hulu I have managed to make it through this summer without paying a single cent for cable and honestly I really haven't missed cable at all. There are almost always streams of the shows/games I want to watch somewhere on the internet and I can stream it right to my tv

The wife and I have discussed dropping cable and just use Hulu and network sites to watch, but cable seems like a fairly low cost after I get my internet through the cable company already.  How do you get cheap internet without paying the cable guy?

Starbucks offers free WiFi in most locations.

So does Scooters, and of course, there's always the public library.
Seriously, other than blogs and message boards and of course, some intermittent Craig's List, er, "shopping"--ahem...what DO you really need the intranets at home for?

I live in a cookie-cutter suburban place and can see unprotected networks.  I pay for my own because I need the security because both my wife and I VPN in for work, but the options are there if I was inclined to take advantage.

I've done this for a year and a half since moving out of the dorms.  Pick up wireless from another person who didn't password protect it.  For the first year I actually plugged cable in myself and it worked fine, but they shut that down eventually.  Now it's a lot of ESPN 3 and other players.

I don't think so, unless you have the on demand channels, BTNOD has a Michigan section... it's awesome.

BTW: You should've made the switch like a month ago, they had a whole week of Michigan programming.

They already did Michigan week?

I just got BTN almost two weeks ago.  After sitting through the tail end of MSU week, OSU week, and now PSU week, I was really hoping that UM was upcoming.  Damn...

A Michigan OD section?...I can't believe the cable sales guy didn't tell me when I specifically  told him I was signing up to get BTN in HD.  You'd think they'd push that stuff.

I just scroll through every couple of days to see what is coming up on the network relative to Michigan, and DVR whatever looks relevant.

I have a BTN Question of my own.

Does anyone know if they do a pay-per-view online streaming thing for regular season games, like they do for the spring games?

I get basic cable for free from my apartment complex, it's included in my rent.

Unfortunately, BTN is not basic cable in my area.

Last year, I just went for the premium package that included BTN during football season, but since it involved time warner getting me a box and all that shit....which I don't need for my basic through the apartment....It was like $25 a month.

I never even watched any of the other premium channels except BTN for M football, so I really don't want to go that route this year, and would rather pay BTN $3.50 a game to watch it streamed on my computer...  you figure 4 games on BTN at $3.50 is like $14....  vs. $25/month for 3 months for the premium cable package....  I'd rather save some money.  If anyone knows please post.

Thanks for the info.

But damn, that really blows.

They cite the contractual obligations with cable companies, but, that's something they should work out.  They obviously have the technology available already to do the streaming thing, so wouldn't require an investment.  I - and I'm sure many others - would gladly pay $3.50/game, but we're in a recession, money is tight, I'm not paying $25/month this year just so I can get BTN, I'm probably going to just make the sacrifice in quality and look for a bootleg stream.  Once again I'm probably not alone.  But, if it were up to me, I'd rather give BTN $3.50 and get better quality picture.  Anyhow, can't believe they're leaving money on the table like that.....not only from consumers but additional ad revenue too.  They need to look at updating their pricing models.

FYI,

I'm a Duke grad student myself now.  Before I get slammed for admitting that, I wear

Michigan stuff on Duke's campus a few times a week (I made an extra effort to do this when I was teaching undergrads) and even better, sent my Dad some Duke stuff to add to the Michigan stuff that he has up at his Spary-dominated office.
