Big Ten Coaches Today

Submitted by Ziff72 on

Been a long wild day and Paterno has just sent me over the edge.  I have no idea what coaches in the Big Ten have been thinking, but based on these decisions and their status maybe they won't be making them much longer.

1. Earlier today Zook has a 4th down deep in Ohio St territory down 7 with 4 minutes to go and kicks a FG?!?!   So you think it will be easier to stop OSU on a 3 and out,  force a punt and then drive the length of the field against OSU than pick up 6 yds?   Idiot.

2. Lynch passing up a 4th and short in Mich territory is just beyond comprehension considering our defense and our offense.

3.  Paterno down 14 with 4th and 6 near midfield elects to punt...hmm so you haven't scored a td yet but you think you can stuff Iowa, drive down and score then onside and score again in 5 minutes, but you don't want to risk a 4th and 6?  Joe Pa was awesome and he probably didn't even make the decision,  but just horrible.

4. I can't pinpoint just 1 Brewster debacle on the last drive but it was epic in the fail.  That was more a LOL than anything the use of clock and play calling was terrible but they never got a yard so it didn't matter.

I love RR and it worked out but wasting a TO after Hemmingways catch was driving me crazy as well.   The clock is stopped for you no need to waste a time out.  You wasted a potential play and limited your options had Denard gotten stuffed.

Bad day for Big Ten coaches.

In his defense, Paterno just watches the game these days. Blame that red-headed guy, he makes the decisions.

also, how well did the college football team you coach do today?

I actually liked the timeout.  Calmed everyone down.  Kept the chance of a turnover minimal which is the worst case scenario.  Gettting everyone down there and lined up may have taken 5 to 10 seconds as well after the ball is set for play.

Last thing you want is a hurried play leading to a turnover when the worst case at that point is a bad angled fg.

Zook decision was reprehensible.

RR calling the timeout was fine -- they would've started the clock as soon as the chains were set, and we wouldn't have had a played called and lined up by that time.  Also, in that big of a situation, it's best to have everyone calm down, listen to the coaches, and know exactly what to do.  If we fumbled that snap or got stuffed, you'd be much more upset with RR's decision-making.

The clock only stops while the chains are moving.  Once they're set, it starts up again.  So the only real alternative to calling a timeout there is to spike the ball on first down - which would waste a play and a few seconds.

Anyway, we had two timeouts.  If Denard had been stopped, we'd have either spiked it or used the final timeout.

continues to amaze me with some of his teams losses.  Its as if sometimes he knows when they are beaten and just gives up.

Either that or he thinks its still 1967 when punting, down 14 with 4 minutes to go still worked.

We are going to beat PSU this year.  They are the perfect candidate to face our bendy defense - they have nothing in the air and make plenty of execution mistakes.  Not to mention their OL is trash and Royster hasn't impressed me one bit this year (the result of the crappy OL).

I think our offense is relatively indifferent to level of defense we face.  PSU's defense is better than what we have seen so far but it isn't THAT good.  I'll say 30-21 UM.
