BIG Recruit Visit - #1 CB Doran Grant to be visiting this weekend
As per scout, behind paywall, Doran Grant will be in attendance this weekend at the game. Not sure if it's an official visit or not, or for that matter, if he's even there just to watch MSU. But this certainly can't hurt us. Is this possibly who Sam Webb was talking about as the shock visitor??

The shock visitor was planning to come for Iowa wasn't he? Unless there was a change of plans for the shock visiotr.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
this is ANOTHER shocking visit haha. All told, and I'm stating the obvious here, but this would be an ENORMOUS pickup for us.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
and it was a southern 5 star kid.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
gotcha
October 7th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
which Grant isn't. There are two "mystery" visitors for Iowa. According to Sam Webb he hasn't talked to Trey DePriest so it isn't him.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
I'm loving this recent spike up in recruiting. Keep winning fellas.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
Anything on this to report? Thanks!
October 7th, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
I don't see us getting Grant, but hey anything can happen when you get recruits on campus.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:28 PM ^
I mean no one really gave us a shot w/ Demar (even though it ultimately ended up shitty for us). We're winning, have a program that is constantly in the headlines now thanks to Denard...and we are famished for help @ DB and he can step in in a year or two and be a star...fingers crossed. IMO - would be a much bigger recruit for us than Dee simply because our D needs a serious infusion of talent, and our offense is pretty stacked. But hey, I'll be greedy and take both.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
I have a feeling that he's more interested in seeing how MSU performs than how we do honestly. Not saying things can't change but aren't OSU and MSU in his top 2?
October 7th, 2010 at 3:34 PM ^
Lets say the good things happen, he sees the big house in it's glory, and a dominating performance by Michigan's O, then he says to himself "hmmm, if I go play at Michigan, I could start right away, and if they have even an average Defense with Denard and that offense....
"
October 7th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
His dad played football at MSU and he grew up a huge OSU fan, things don't look great for us, but never say never I guess.
October 7th, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
I thought he grew up a Miami fan?
October 8th, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
Not sure, but I want to say no based on YakAttack's link below and I didn't see anything about Miami on there.
October 7th, 2010 at 6:16 PM ^
His dad played for Michigan not MSU.
October 7th, 2010 at 6:43 PM ^
Not correct. 2012 S recruit Aaron Gant's father Tony played for Michigan. Doran Gran'ts father played for MSU.
October 7th, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
Isn't it Allen Gant? Aaron played for osu.

“Right now Michigan State and Ohio State have a slight lead over the other schools in my list,” Grant said in an interview with Scout.com. “I just feel very comfortable with both schools and really enjoyed visiting their campuses, coaches, and players when I was there for unofficial visits more than the other schools.
His other finalists include Michigan, USC, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Penn State, and Cincinnati.

Never link to bleacherreport. Ever. You may think I'm exaggerating, but I promise I'm not. I know what you're thinking, "but mejunglechop, there's such good information in that article!" Maybe there is, maybe it's crap, who knows, again, it's bleacherreport (so probably crap.) Good luck and happy posting.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Yikes. I hope this turns out different than the last time we got excited over the top player in Ohio.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
If it means we get an even better player the next year who is Heisman worthy, I'll be ok with it.
October 8th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
I dont think you're talking about TP because he's from PA.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:33 PM ^
I got the impression from Sam's comments that the shock recruit was someone who wasn't even giving us a sniff earlier.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
WHERE THE HELL IS TOMVH WHEN U NEED HIM?? I NEED ANSWERS DOES HE HAVE A BAT LIGHT? SEND IT UP
October 7th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
Remember, cocaine is a weekend treat.
October 7th, 2010 at 5:47 PM ^
For some
October 7th, 2010 at 7:02 PM ^
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
October 8th, 2010 at 6:46 PM ^
Negga
October 7th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
the weekend, right?
"Cocaine is totally different than steroids." Please know who said this.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:41 PM ^
Oh that would be LT and yes it is the weekend so dont judge me
October 8th, 2010 at 9:27 AM ^
Gary Sheffield admitted to using the same 'cream" that Barry Bonds used.......but he says he never tood steroids because nobody ever stuck a needle in his ass.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
If we keep this crap up Tom's not going to keep coming around and giving us information.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
Maybe you should bold you statement so he can hear you.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
Not the shock visitor...but MSU and OSU will be SHOCKED when Grant signs with the victors valiant. HAIL!
October 7th, 2010 at 3:47 PM ^
I've been wanting to post this as it's own post, but don't have enough points....but it's one of the funniest things I've seen on the internet in recent months.
This link here talks about what appears to be Doran's mom writing him a letter on his recruiting profile on cleveland.com. Awkward? And then to top it off she writes a letter to then recruit Christian Bryant on his own profile?
The actual page where these comments appear from "tonyagrant" are here (Doran) and here (Christian).
October 7th, 2010 at 3:59 PM ^
adorable.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:46 PM ^
Iangold's profile picture or the link?
October 7th, 2010 at 3:46 PM ^
stayed in the Michigan lockerroom afterwards? Hopefully if Grant is coming there a Sparty lean after the victory he'll really enjoy some time in the Victors lockerroom...
October 7th, 2010 at 3:51 PM ^
I thought of that also. It was Royce Jenkins Stone.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:47 PM ^
He's going to revise his list?
October 7th, 2010 at 3:53 PM ^
I will never get too excited about any Ohio recruit until they declare for us. Doran Grant is awesome...but a guy who is leaning toward both OSU and MSU? Don't get your hopes up.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:57 PM ^
Not important enough to make a post and i dont have credibility but I believe Omar Kaddurah, who is the top long distance runner in the state, is also visiting. He still might not come but most likely will. His best mile was last year, 4:07.2 i think. He also finished 3rd in the national championship for the mile.
October 7th, 2010 at 3:59 PM ^
Any U of M championship is a good U of M Championship.
October 9th, 2010 at 12:14 AM ^
What's his 40 time, and does he have a good backpedal?
October 7th, 2010 at 3:59 PM ^
Dear Dorian,
As you prepare for your trip to Ann Arbor, let me give you a few things to think about:
1. Check out our stadium. Nice, isn't it? Did you know that it is the largest stadium in the country? Cool, huh? Did you know that next year, we will have awesome new lights? So, if it wasn't enough for you to play in front of 110,000 fans, now you can do it under the lights on prime time TV.
2. Watch our defense. Given the speed with which our offense scores, and the amount of time that our defense is on the field, you will have plenty of time to watch them. See how crappy our secondary is? Man, could we use a young, stud HS CB. If only we had a young, stud HS CB who was highly ranked, I bet he could walk in the door and start from game #1. Do you know of any stud CBs who would like to comein any play immediate? Whoever that is would probably be looked at as a hero and could have his pick of any of our many women.
3. On the topic of corner backs, you know that not so long ago, a highly ranked CB came to Michigan and won a NC, a Heisman and went on to be one of the most successful CBs in the NFL. He also chose us over OSU and MSU. Just saying.
3. Check out Denard Robinson. Yeah, he really does have a smile that melts your heart. I expect that after he wins the Heisman this year, we will be the game of the week like every week next year, so I guess we will be nationally televised a lot. I am sure that MSU gets nationally televised once or twice a year. They play us (that's once) and ND (that's twice). If you are into that kind of thing, it might be cool to play here.
4. Our helmets have wings.
5. The weather for the game is predicted to be 74 degrees and sunny. This is the weather all winter in Ann Arbor. Don't believe that nonsense that you hear about cold, miserable winters. Those only happen in East Lansing and Columbus. Here, the air is naturally heated by the warmth of Denards smile and the kenetic energy of his constant, fast, motion.
We hope that you enjoy your visit, and can't wait to spend the next 4 years with you.
With great love, respect and adoration,
The loyal Michigan fanbase

Dorian already committed to OSU in the 2009 class.
October 7th, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
(but also remind Doran that we can count to 10 properly ;) )
October 7th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
See - that is how bad our defense is - we have lost the ability to count to 10! Man we need this guy. Nice catch!
October 7th, 2010 at 4:08 PM ^
We're clearly in third place here, behind OSU and MSU
But, I stand by what I said back in the summer with Grant.
We get him up her for the MSU game, beat the Spartans and look exciting doing it, then this horse is in play.
Still wouldnt be the favorite, but I feel we'd move into 2nd spot and who knows.
He said he's waiting until after his season to decide and I tell you what, Ohio is going to be easier to recruit with a winning team, the best player in CFB that everyone wants to play beside and IF somehow we get a win over the Bucks. Not sure all three needs to happen to get Grant, but a win against this week's rival will actually give us a chance in this Derby.
E-specualtion. I dont read and parrot scout/rival boards, so I'm sure somebody will correct me here
