Big House Seating

Submitted by Gocannon16 on

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how bad sec. 33 row 85 is for a freshman.  I know 33 is the endzone, which isn't the best, but i can't change, but how bad is row 85? Oh, and for that matter feel free to tell me how the endzone actually is, since i can only predict/imagine.  Regardless I'm excited to have the tickets, can't wait. Go Blue!

As a little perspective, I was in row 98 or 99 as a freshman. When I got to the last row of benches and I didn't see my row number yet I thought that there was a problem. Until I looked at the wall behind the benches and saw my row number painted on it. Thats right, I was in standing room only (not a problem as I stood anyway) behind the last row of benches. I think that I made it down to row 80 as a soph. So I would say you have pretty good seats for a frosh.

Yeah I had row 95 my freshman year (last year), but the only thing the ushers check is section number.  I sat in my seats for only the first game, after that I would sit in row 40 and below.

The Key was to get there early and to act like those were your seats.

Also I was part of the block M for all the games that had it.

...freshman.  Consider yourself fortunate that you have the opportunity to purchase season tickets in the greatest college football stadium in the nation to follow the most storied program in the history of the sport.

With that perspective, there is no bad seat in the Big House.

There aren't any bad seats in the Big House. There were a few before the old press box was torn out, but you'll be able to see fine.

Not a big expert, but I am sec 31, row 45 as a freshman, that's pretty good right? Either way, I have been to about 10 Michigan football games, I am so pumped to be in the student section!

First of all, just be thankful for that yellow envelope. This will be the first year I will be missing a home game in 5 years because I'm moving out of Ann Arbor. Secondly, my freshman year tickets were in the last row next to the pressbox (obviously no longer a problem). I never sat in them because I couldn't see past the opposite 35 yard line (snuck up to row 10 to watch Mario Manningham against Penn State). You will have a great time no matter where you sit. Enjoy the greatest 4 [EDIT: or 5] years of your life, GO BLUE.

Come September 4 you'll feel the electricity of the place come game time and when the MGoBlog readership, myself included, go all batshit when Brock Mealer leads them out then it will all be great. Don't worry too much about where...worry about when.

There's nothing bad about being high up, unless you're obsessed with getting on TV.  You get a good view of everything that goes on.    (And since you enter the stadium on row 72, it's not a high climb to get to your seats.)  It's really the lower rows that give you lousy sightlines.

and if you really want to be on tv ... go to basketball games, i have seriously been on it ever time weve had a home game since my freshman yr, after the first time it is really no longer that cool because you realize it just doesnt matter ... just enjoy the football and the atmosphere

There is not a bad seat in The House. However, I have something to add. Even if you feel like you're far back, you can actually get in the game. How's that you ask?

BE LOUD. We need to plant this in your mind early and make sure you never forget it. BE LOUD! BE VERY LOUD! YELL LIKE YOU HAVE CAPS LOCK ON LIKE I DO NOW.

You'll see people taking their keys out. You probably will still have your freshman lanyard (hopefully not around your neck anymore). It's cool, take those keys out and be proud. But that means it's 3rd down [edit: on defense. not sure how much football you know but seeing as you are on this site you probably at least know some. while cheering is cool on offense, this is mostly reserved for defense so we may screw up the other team. if we score then you will get loud without having to think about it, trust me], so you better be yelling so loud you can't hear the keys when they're jingling only about a foot from your face. That was my goal when I first started going to games, and it made me yell really loud even with keys out. Some people will take their keys out and shut their mouth. Yell at them.

That said, welcome to the U. You are very welcome here, even if you are a freshman :).

I got the last row my freshman year. It was ok I got row 24 my senior year. Last year I sat with a friend who's a med student at UM (and UM undergrad) and sat row 3 for the Ohio State game on the 20 yard line.

Honestly, I don't mind sitting (standing) in the endzone. I've had season tickets in section 34 for a few years up high, and you can see everything really well. It is really cool because you can see the holes open up and watch the play develop. The only bad thing with these seats is once you cross the 50 or so, it becomes difficult to tell the difference between a 1 yard gain and an 8 yard gain. This can happen from many places in the stadium though, so you should be satisfied with your seats. Like others have said, if you are in the stadium, you have a good seat.
