the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

I have to agree with what the announcers have said (along with all their interviews) as a player you dont notice it that much.
Olympic Ice feels a lot different. A lot more open space everywhere- neutral zone transitions, more important to use all the lanes, harder to play D in the D zone, a lot more room to cover.

Would James Ross play hockey here as well?

I know I shouldn't be this susceptible to advertising, but I really want something off the Arby's $1 menu after staring at the boards. I wish they delivered.
That was scary. Correct call, but we were fortunate there that it didn't make it in in time.
Puck was clearly going in, the goalie knocks the net loose (and I don't think he was pushed into it by an offensive player, could be wrong as I wasn't exactly paying attention to that part of the video), no goal.
I know it's the right call by the rules, but DAMMIT.
that they didn't call it obvious and iminent after watching the replay. That really probably should have been a goal, even by the rules.
EDIT: Looking at it again from the Big Ten Netowrk website highlights (http://www.bigtennetwork.com/subindex/video?bcpid=587214471001&bclid=111...), I can see why it was waved off. If the State player hadn't of taken the second whack at it and the puck had rolled itself into the recently vacated net space, I think they would have counted it, but the puck was clearly out (again, shown well on the highlights) precisely when the net came off, so play is dead, so the whack after doesn't count, intnent to blow the whistle possibly comes into effect for the exact timing of the whistle, if you wanna argue that, (wow I hate that rule, even when it possibly helps the team I cheer for) and since the State player did hit it again, one can't say absolutely 100% the puck would have gone in without the dead-play strike and since it was ruled no goal on ice, it stood. Hunwick did knock the net off without offensive help, but it wasn't purposeful (or at least not obviously purposeful) so the whole above chain of events is still triggered. I still think it should have been a goal, but I guess I get why it wasn't considered obvious and iminent.
I know that this comes way later, but...
I'm pretty sure Hunwick got pushed by an offensive player. Though there was a player from each team barreling in toward the net, I'm pretty sure Hunwick got pushed into the post when the players were all flailing around for the puck.
Also, what the other guy said, hitting the puck after the net's off makes it null.
Interestingly, nets aren't technically off immediately upon dislodging. If the peg/mooring is at least partly/mostly still in the post, and still in the ice partly, then the net can be off the goal line and still be "on". It looked like it had fully dislodged, but it was close. For example, if they use rubber pegs instead of metal, the peg can bend a little. Could happen with metal too, but less likely.

I was arguing that the rule itself is dumb. By the rule, they got the call right. A horrible break for MSU (would it have swung the game? I doubt it, we'd have had the momentum for a little bit but that can only do so much when your second line would be a good match for the opponent's fourth), but if anyone outside of the teams involved is at fault it's the rules committee, not the referees who got the call right according to the letter of the law.
I like how hockey commentators don't do the "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL" thing like they do in international soccer.

I'm in your boat man. Guarantee they don't have that promotion going on up here. I was pissed a few years ago when I tried to get the deal for the Tigers game.
"They will meet a dastardly fate here for that! There isn't a Michigan Man who wouldn't like go out and scalp those Buckeyes right now."
The more I think the Red Wings and Canadiens should have played there last night and made it a double-header! Would have been awesome!

Good thing the outdoor game is not here this year, like last year. It's 37F and pouring rain. Not sure the Ice would hold up to that. Outdoor hockey is awesome though, looks awesome there. Go blue!

we were 4th in the CCHA (we being Northern Michigan). Unusually good year thus far. Can't wait 'til Michigan comes to town in February.

I love the shadows on the ice. It's like an old-time after-school hockey game.
State's coach was this close to lapsing into whine and cheese mode at the post period interview.
He acted like a guy out of answers today.

How is there 113,411 people in attendance? There aren't as many people on the field as in a normal football game. That is crazy though.

There must be more people in the suites, press boxes and club seats than there were for football games.
This record may stand for some time, because our capacity is going to go down a bit as they widen more aisles in the next couple of years. It might not be broken until the next round of expansion.
Especially seeing that there were a bunch of extra people for the Stadium re-dedication ceremony. Do they have extra security/concessions people there or something?
Maybe the football team is in attendance...
