Biff Poggi hired as Associate Head Coach

Submitted by sportzfan81 on

There was a lot of speculation back in the spring that this was going to happen. This is a great addition to the staff. His football knowledge and abiity to help in recruiting (whatever limited role that may be) will be good for Michigan. Sad to see Coach Poggi leave Baltimore, but great opportunity for him and his family.

Associate head coach...that's a big fucking title. I get the Special Advisor to the Head Coach, but damn. That'll stand out on a resume for sure.

Associate head coach is the title you give to your #2 assistant coach who's either an old head and been around forever OR that head coach in waiting type. Never seen it applied to someone who's going to be helping out in other capacities.

Also weird because it was rumored he was going to Stanford and he pushed that Gilman OL recruit from Michigan to Stanford. But heavy emphasis on rumored. Nonetheless we could've used him in the last class. Devery Henderson or Hamilton, something like that.

Anyway, glad to have him aboard! Should be able to help us in a number of ways while his son plants LBs into the turf this fall.

Serious question: are there a limited number of coaching spots we fan fill? Over the past couple years I can recall a few moves like this, but can't recall anyone leaving the coaching staff who wasn't replaced. Are we eventually going to employ half of the country, or what?

IIRC when the rumor first popped up he was suddenly coaching at another Baltimore area prep school attempting to recruit kids from other high schools to his

Biff Poggi - football coach

Henry Poggi - student athlete

Schmelly (Mellie) Soggy Poggi - student

Mrs. Poggi and family dog - waiting to be signed

It's another Michigan dynasty in the works. There's been a lot of that at our school.

I believe we need a special t-shirt.

In Orlando this year, good guy and seemed to know very one there from players to coaches etc: probably going to be a great pick up for us. Just wondering what took so long or what happened at Stanford because it looked like he was a shoe in for there program.

How do guys like like Thomas Wilcher feel about this? We obviously need him coaching at CT. With all of these HS coaches getting jobs on staff, I would think Wilcher would want some of that action.
