landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Bielema gets contract extension through 2016
more years in which we can beat his ass.
...the cheese has gone bad and affected their mental acuity. Nonetheless, I can't wait to see him humbled by the maize and blue in coming years.
I believe he's their most successful coach (in terms of winning percentage) in school history. Why would they not want to lock him up?
Wiscy under Bilema is very good. Not great, but better than most of our conference. They have been and will be a good measuring stick for our program this year.
He looks like a goblin and he scares me.
A wise move. He's about the best coach that Wisconsin would be able to get, and transitions are nasty in any case.
I had lived in Madison for the past decade and witnessed the Alvarez to Bielema transition first-hand. It was an utterly (udderly?) boring transition, completely unlike the last few UM HC transitions (and I'm also counting Moeller to Carr as a transition not w/o high drama). In fact - if memory serves me correctly - Barry may have broken some UW rules by unilaterally anointing Bret and not posting the job for an official search. And you would be amazed at the amount of flak Bielema gets in Madison...the post-Rose Bowl hate was unbelievable.
It was very similar to the Bo:Mo transition.
Bielema proved that his dominant 1980's-style BT team is a mirage outside of the Big Ten. Wiscy faced a team they couldn't push around and they lost, and embarrassed the Big Ten with their performance. From now on, just like Michigan is mentioned every time a FCS team plays a FBS team, Wiscy will be mentioned every time a non-BCS team gets toward the end of the season and is still undefeated.
Wiscy is now a mere foil for every undfeated non-BCS team with championship aspirations. I can see why some of their fans are a tad pissed.
Guess Wisconsin will do okay keeping him as long as he keeps his scoring card. That way he can be sure to drop those "extra couple of points" on weak teams. His coaching during the Minnesota game was just sad, keep that stuff in the SEC.
I think Bielema is a good coach, but I'm really not sold on him. He does well in Wisconsin because the recruiting base in the state is typically giant linemen, average QB's, TE's, and RB's. He typically has to go outside of the state to get his "talent".
The Beefcake industry is gearing up for a massive bidding war for the next food service contract with the Wisconsin Athletic Department.
