BG jabs Gholston and OSU

Submitted by maineandblue on
NY Post article today interviews BG about visiting the Jets. Title of the article: "Michigan's Graham to Jets: I'm no Gholston." Quote from the article: "I don’t know what has happened with him. It might be the program he came from," Graham told The Post yesterday — either purposely or inadvertently tweaking Michigan’s rival school. "Right now everyone looks at him as a bust, and I understand that. They’re paying him all this money and he hasn’t done anything." Link: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/michigan_graham_to_gang_green_no_6N… Good to see him having a bit of fun teasing OSU-- not much else we can tease them about lately. Most Jets fans are crazy about him. Even though there's no chance he falls to us at 29, there's serious talk of our GM (Mike Tennembaum) targeting him and trading up like we did w/ Harris and Revis. I commented on the Jets blog I frequent (Gang Green Nation) that having watched every game BG has played, I can assure everyone that he's the anti-Gholston in every way. He may not be a top 10 pick as far as physical attributes like Gholston, but his bust potential seems to be about as near zero as it gets. I'd be shocked if he falls below pick 15 or so.

If he falls to you guys, that'd move you a long way towards finally getting some pressure from your D-line. I think even after all the moves you'll still finish behind the Dolphins, but things are much more interesting if you get Graham (as opposed to getting Taylor today to star on Hard Knocks).

I think there's pretty much no chance he falls to us, and I'm assuming if we land him it would have to be by trading up. Either way, he would likely play mostly OLB in Rex's 3-4 defense, so it wouldn't help much in the way of getting pressure from the D-line. I'm sure we'd love some D-line help as far as generating pass pressure, but in Rex's system most of the pass rush comes primarily from the two OLB's (we have Pace and now Taylor on both sides) as well as a myriad of blitzers from the backfield. In any case, I think the Fish will be tough, but most objective fans see the Jets as the favorite in the AFC East. Based on what we did last year, the new additions, another year of experience for Sanchez, and another year in Rex's system, I would be surprised and devastated if we don't win the division at the very least.

I think most objective fans at least consider the fact that that Jets are a team that was headed for 7-9, and only legitimately beat one good team (the always-choking Chargers) on their hot streak. That's not trashing your team, but expectations are almost certainly too high based on what we've seen. The D-line, pressure or no, is a huge weakness on your "best defense in the league." I like Henne far more than Sanchez, their running game more, their receivers more at this point. They're a young team, and they actually have draft picks that might really fill some holes. I think a big problem with the late run last year for you guys is that you needed the 18th-ish pick this year to help you, and you played your way to 29th. If both of your high profile FA headcases play great, and you get past the first 4 games without Braylon (likely assault suspension) and Holmes with a couple wins, who knows. But there is some real doubt about all of this working out, and talent doesn't even always = playoffs. See: 2009 Giants.

Props to KGB for his comments about OSU and Gholston. Regardless of where KGB goes, he will be successful. Of this I am certain (Ok, so I might be a bit of a homer, but who's counting?).

I'm not going to go into it (but that's a lie because I definitely am), because I don't want any more hate from Geaux Blue for my "lies," or "name dropping," just because I happened to be lucky enough to live next to Brandon Graham Freshman year, and subsequently became friends with him. So basically, one night we were thinking up possible nicknames for him, and my roommate, myself, BG, and BM were all smoking, and came up with the "totally original" nickname of KBG. Killah Brandon Graham. Obviously it's a play off of Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's nickname, KGB, which was a play on the USSR's famed intelligence agency. We tried to get it to catch on and it failed, but I still call him KBG.

BG at 31 Flavors. he didn't look too good. (also, fwiw, you keep acting like people 'drag' out this explanation that you lived next to BG but you wear it on your sleeve CONSTANTLY with nicknames or anecdotes that people have no clue wtf you're talking about and ask. then you "reluctantly" admit why you say it. sometimes i just want to say 'And what was all that shit about Vietnam? What the FUCK, has anything got to do with Vietnam? What the fuck are you talking about?'... but with your KGB type of stuff and not, you know, Nam)

And every time I drag out me having lived next to BG, you feel the need to comment on how I dragged out the fact that I lived next to BG. So it's definitely a double edged sword. You make it seem like every other post I reference the fact that I lived next to BG, but in reality I've brought it up, maybe 3 times, including this thread. In fact, the first time I brought it up was in a thread that was having a discussion about experiences people have had with members of the football team.

Yea, I'm definitely playing the expert in that post. Not sure why you have to act like a jackass. So I have a few cool/dumb/semi-interesting stories about a couple of guys who played football here. You seem to take me sharing those as ZOMGZ NAME DROPPER KNOW IT ALL EXPERTZ. You need to get over whatever fictional/kindergarten beef you have with me and just let it go. If I'm so "tired," and you get so "tired" of responding to all of my posts, then just let it go. Stop trying to act like you're the bigger man, while at the same time continuing to comment on my posts telling me how juvenile or know-it-all I am. If you really are tired of it, then just scroll over my posts, and quit responding to them. It's not a bizarre coincidence that you comment on much of what I write, because you like to bash me for what you perceive is my know-it-allness. Don't pretend like you're "tired" of it, because if you truly were tired of it then you would ignore it, and just move on, but no, you comment on it, and have to give your expert opinion on how I feel that I'm an expert. Cool beans, but your actions don't match up with your rhetoric. If I'm an expert in anything, it's your jackassery, because I've certainly experienced enough of it.

let the dolphins draft him at #12 to fill the void left by Porter. Miami is already on its way to an all Michigan team, hope they grab Hart to fill in after Ricky's contract expires next season.

BG is the best. And in this case, he is right on. BG will have as big of an impact as Woodley if not bigger. Look for him to be a star in the NFL within 2 years.

Derrick Morgan did absolutely nothing against Iowa and got most of his sacks against Clemson and Maryland (not exactly world beaters). BG was double-teamed on every single play and destroyed the #3 OT Bryan Bugala and Iowa's other OT (likely a 3-4 rounder) in this years draft. If he was a little taller he'd be a top 5 pick.

I can feel our swagger back...RichRod and staff are starting to talk optimistically about this team...coach speak or not, we are coming back baby. Mark my word, Michigan is feared again after this year. Consistency returns, and OSU's looking to their sidelines pretty soon to find a coach that can beat Michigan. Swagger is back..Thanks BG.

Reliably nice post Raback We have been feared for a while. Tressel in particular has to know the fuse is short - he isn't stupid. Michigan has been reloading and is pretty much reloaded right now. I have alluded to this in other posts but but will be less discreet here - the game RR in which will tolerate a revenge-style blowout is Purdue. That a-hole Hope got way over the line and he is going to pay for it.

thinking of the Jets getting BG, but with the recent pick up of Jason Taylor, Jenkins in the middle and Ellis on the end I really doubt they would give up too much (i.e. trading up) to get BG. If he falls that low, then I obviously would embrace the pick, but I don't think it is in the cards for the Jets and BG. I guess if they want to use him in Ghoulston's spot (suck it!) he would work better as a LB/DE hybrid. Izzo and Pace are getting on in their years and it would give BG a chance to learn the wacky defense Rex Ryan runs. It will be an interesting draft to say the least.

Him on one side and Clay Matthews on the other would be fun for me to watch... C'mon, you'd all love to see him playin' with Charles, right! Teddy "Beady Eyes" Thompson will have to trade up and get him though, and that's against the norm for him, and he did it last year, so the odds are most likely not good...

I really hope he trades up to take BG. I dont really like where the Packers are picking. Have to grab a project LT or from the 2nd tier of OLBs. If we sit at 23, I can see us going Brown from USC or one of the CBs. Anyone else (barring someone slipping) would make me cringe.
