Better songs for Michigan Stadium this season

Submitted by UMxWolverines on
Last year was the first time music over the PA has been played at Michigan Stadium. Fact, the music did get the crowd more into it, which is what the goal was. Fact, some of the music was a good choice (I remember them playing Shout by the Temptations) Fact, most of it was the same stuff they play at Minor League baseball parks) I've gone ahead and come up with a list of songs that I can't ever remember hearing anywhere else, or very rarely heard. Please take a look and tell me if you could see them playing any of these songs in the Big House this fall. I've even listed some songs from singers from Michigan. Aerosmith- Livin on the edge (start at 2nd chorus) Anthrax- Madhouse Boston- Foreplay/Long Time Bruce Springsteen- Born in the USA Derek and the Dominos- Layla Dire Straits- Money for nothing(intro) Iron Maiden- The Legacy Led Zeppelin- Kashmir Muse- Uprising Muse- Supermassive Black Hole Muse- Hysteria Scorpions- Rock you like a Hurricane Smashing Pumpkins- Cherub Rock Van Halen- Humans Being (Song from Twister) Singers from Michigan: Alice Cooper- Sanctuary Stevie Wonder- Superstition Ted Nugent- Stranglehold Ted Nugent- Free for all Ted Nugent- Crave

I hear you, which is why I noted the very real possibility of creating new music/beats as hype music.  It's not like "Boom Boom Clap" has great lyrics, but that became a stadium hit.  I trust that the MMB (which already does a drum line) could do well in that realm.  It might also be a neat little way to raise funds for the MMB (in selling more MMB music) rather than licensing Neil Diamond.

You know so much about jock Jamz, and yet you did not know that the legend of the Michigan flag on the moon is just that, a legend.

This leads me to believe, that you either know more off-hand about Jock Jamz than the University of Michigan, or that you just spew shit out of your ass 99% of the time as if it's god's honest truth. It seems that the only time you do any real research is while attempting to get in a zinger.

A prophet predicts the future, yet you love the piped-in music that was lame a decade ago.

The Michigan flag thing was taught to me by...wait for it...the University of Michigan...when training me to lead accepted students on tours of campus.  My comment to you was super funny.  Maybe, one day, you'll acquire a sense of humor to go along with your avatar of another man's wide open mouth.

I hate Neil Diamond. I hate the rock music.

Quote me, from earlier in the thread.

This is why I cannot have a rational discussion with you (nor do I even try to).

You see only what you want to see, and it seems as though you don't even bother to read anything anyone posts.

[...]yet you love the piped-in music that was lame a decade ago.

You saying that, makes me question your critical reading skills.

Maybe, one day, you'll acquire a sense of humor to go along with your avatar of another man's wide open mouth.

Then you top it off with the not so veiled gay joke.

Way to do the University of Michigan proud.

As an aside, while you were leading those U tours, how many gay jokes did you crack?

Mike the band. F'ing mike the band already. The Big Ten has rules against electronically modifying the bands in the stands, but I feel like that's an outdated ordinance.

Other conferences have already put in PAs for the bands and of course no stadium is as vast or open as the Big House. We have an excellent, tradition-rich marching band, so why not let everyone hear us?

First, poll the team. Get what they want first.

Some others off the top of my head and/or agreeing with above posters

Anything by Rage Against the Machine,

Springsteen- climax of Born to Run right after a good running play "Tramps like us, baby we were born to Ruuuun!"

Jay Z- 99 problems-useful for many situations.

Pearl Jam- intro to Cordorouy after we score a touchdown "The waiting drove me mad!"

LCD Soundsystem - All I Want

The National - Fake Empire

The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Bright Lit Blue Skies

Animal Collective - What Would I Want Sky?  (from the 2:20 mark to the 3:10 mark, during a replay timeout)

Deerhunter - Agoraphobia (for the defense)

Lloyd Cole & Commotions - Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?

Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me

Wild Nothing - Chinatown or Our Composition

The Lemonheads - It's About Time

Joy Division - Transmission

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal

Maybe I'm in the minority here, maybe I'm old, maybe I'm too much of a music snob, but this entire discussion makes me sick to my stomach.

It feels like discussing our favorite companies and which billboards we'd most prefer littering up our beautiful stadium. "Sometimes when you're on" during a commercial break would definitely give me the chills, but I can't get behind piped in rawk music no matter what. I agree with some of the other folks in that we need ot find a way, any way, to make the band louder (mic them, move them, more loud instruments and less flute, whatever it takes).

I wish I knew how to make a poll...I really wonder how many mgobloggers would agree with me that piped in rawk should be banished to the depths of hell, even if the only alternative is a barely audible MMB. Maybe it's too late and I'm trying to fight a battle that has been lost, but I'm really curious what the breakdown of opinion would be.

Just mic the band. This rawk shit is terrible. OP suggesting Muse and Ted Nugent? In Michigan Stadium? Are you serious?

If we have to have cheesy classic rock blaring in there, let's roll with something decent like Harry Nilsson's 'Jump Into the Fire'

I can't stand the Nuge because of his politics.  I am sure there are others who feel the same way about my favorites like RATM and MC5.  But on football Saturdays, Michigan Nation is to stand united against the evil forces of [insert opponent's name here].  It may be best to avoid political stuff (for the same reason politics are taboo on this site).
