Better songs for Michigan Stadium this season

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

Last year was the first time music over the PA has been played at Michigan Stadium.

Fact, the music did get the crowd more into it, which is what the goal was.
Fact, some of the music was a good choice (I remember them playing Shout by the Temptations)
Fact, most of it was the same stuff they play at Minor League baseball parks)

I've gone ahead and come up with a list of songs that I can't ever remember hearing anywhere else, or very rarely heard. Please take a look and tell me if you could see them playing any of these songs in the Big House this fall. I've even listed some songs from singers from Michigan.

Aerosmith- Livin on the edge (start at 2nd chorus)
Anthrax- Madhouse
Boston- Foreplay/Long Time
Bruce Springsteen- Born in the USA
Derek and the Dominos- Layla
Dire Straits- Money for nothing(intro)
Iron Maiden- The Legacy
Led Zeppelin- Kashmir
Muse- Uprising
Muse- Supermassive Black Hole
Muse- Hysteria
Scorpions- Rock you like a Hurricane
Smashing Pumpkins- Cherub Rock
Van Halen- Humans Being (Song from Twister)

Singers from Michigan:
Alice Cooper- Sanctuary
Stevie Wonder- Superstition
Ted Nugent- Stranglehold
Ted Nugent- Free for all
Ted Nugent- Crave

As long as they don't play the White Stripes every five minutes like they did last season (which it seemed, anyway), I will be happy.  Also -- they need to invest in a new sound system.  Was this addressed with the new additions?  I didn't see anything on it.

Actually they had it built into the scoreboard by the spring game but didn't have it hooked up in the new press box yet so they used Portable Speakers for the Spring Game so what you heard there will not be the same as Gameday.  I am sure it will be better.  The portable speakers for the spring game were on tripods in the handicap seating area in the North Endzone stands.

more Led Zeppelin sounds amazing, but the band already plays some (which is sweet).  Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" would be great, as he is from Michigan like you said.  The Blackhawks used it a for their playoff entrances and I thought it was sweet.  Ultimately, anything but the absolute crap that was played last year (please no Journey and no Sweet Caroline)

Some Zeppelin does sound sweet. Kashmir playing during our game would equal goosebumps if this season goes how I think it will.
Also, if you are looking for more Michigan made music, try "Won't back down" on Eminems new CD. I think that'd be bad-ass.

Well time to get off the pooper and get back to work.

Iron Man after Defensive plays are sweet... but it's good when the band does it. I wouldn't be opposed to a loud speaker version as well though.

I also thought "Welcome to the Jungle" worked for the defense coming out.

I'd like to see the PA be a little more serious when needed (get loud/exciting stuff) and have a little more fun when games are out of hand (like the crowd doing the wave).

If we have to have the piped in music, let's still give the band it's due and make sure that what we do pump in works

..Boss/Rage twofer which is win.  Which reminds me: The Boss has some great twofers including the aforementioned and Boss/Patti Smith, Boss/Manfred Mann.

I love the Boss like nobody's business.  When Floyd Money came out to Born in the USA against Ricky Hatton I had goose bumps.  It was the perfect song at the perfect moment.  I think most American fans were planning on rooting against the cocky Mayweather but the combination of the British fans booing our national anthem, their loud support for Hatten, and the Mayweather entrance shifted the crowd's support.  Now if only he would man up and fight Pacquio

EDIT:  Found the video:

DOUBLE EDIT: the video only shows the national anthems, not the entrances.  It gives you a good idea of how obnoxious the British fans were being though.  Then imagine the first few notes of Born in the USA coming over the loudspeaker as the Americans in the crowd went nuts

There is not a single song on that list that I would agree with. But that just goes to show how much of a 'no win' situation this task is because everybody has different tastes and opinions. I respect your strategy to come up with original stuff though.

it is an impossible task because the age range/taste vary so much because michigan football touches all ....

many college aged kids wouldnt be down for almost any of those songs ...

honestly the first time eminem came on for the nd game, we went ballistic, for instate kids the guy is our fricking hero (they then overplayed it) but i seriously think they should break out some "Not Afraid" this yr

my fav michigan singer is segar but i dont think his music qualifies as pump up music

No disrespect to the band (I married a drum major) but the MMB when seated is not effective in getting the rest of the crowd into the game.  The echo is so bad that people in the South end of the stadium usually give up trying to join in the songs.  If they were somehow amplified through the speaker system, then I would be all over it.

However, until that time, I am open to the same proportion of music being played through the speaker system.

Good list... I would add

Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills and Fear of the Dark

Motley Crue - Kickstart My Hear

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction and Countdown to Extinction

Metallica - Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets and Orion (I imagine the crowd chanting during the beginning part and then the team running out when the guitar really starts)

Rage - Wake Up

Judas Priest - Hell Bent for Leather

Ozzy - Crazy Train

AC/DC - Hells Bells (do not remember hearing it before, usually its Thunderstruck)
