Best Sugar Bowl Viewing Plans?

Submitted by michgoblue on

So, for those of us unlucky enough not to be at the game, what is everyone doing to watch the game?

My plans:

I like watching the games from the comfort of my own home. Bars don't always allow you to hear the game on full volume, and I like being master of the remote so that I can rewind and replay if I want. (also, having young kids at home doesn't allow for going to a sports bar). So, watching at home in the comfort of my couch on the newish big screen TV, with my wife who loves Michigan football almost as much as me.

Game day (night) meal:

My wife is making our favorite night game food - beef empenedas. Basically, ground meat cooked in a ton of tomato sauce and spices, and the baked into small puff pastries. Not only delicious, but perfect dinner to eat while watching the game on the couch. Followed by some based chocolate dessert that she will not disclose to me, that she will inevitably adorn with Michigan-related decorations (for the OSU game, she made an ice cream cake and wrote out Beat Ohio in blue and yellow M & Ms).

So, on a relatively light news day that seems to be moving excruciatingly slowly as we get closer to tonight, anyone have any good plans to share?

Is this just a way to brag that you have an awesome wife that cooks you awesome sounding foods?

My plan was to sit there and eat a bowl of sugar while watching the game, but your plans sounds much better.

As I couldn't really afford the time to get the plane out of the hangar and fly the 2 hrs to New Orleans due to laziness, I will be kneeling in front of the 60" screen. Sitting during the game is really frowned upon at my house.

My wife is making gumbo assisted by my adult kids; I have to stop and get her *beer* on the way home from the office.

I swear we are going to make it to the opener in Dallas..

I'm with you - I used to do the bar thing but it's getting a bit old (and expensive). I'd much rather throw back some beers/cocktails at home and order some food. You can also actually hear the game.

At my home with my wife, my 5 and 3 year old daughters (at least until half-time) with two of our best friends. We'll be eating Hop-in-John and and drinking Miller Lites and red wine.

I will probably be standing by the left-corner of my mounted flat-screen for every third down, and pacing behind the couch during any Va Tech extended drive. If it's a blowout (like last year) I'll be sulking in my chair by the bay window. If it's a UM blowout there will be a healthy dose of quick sporadic dance moves followed by fast-clapping throughout various places in the living room and dining area.

If the ending is anything like ND or Ohio I will be running and sock-sliding down the hall

doesn't guilt me into putting our son to be... at 8PM. Other than that, watch on my couch (I'll try to avoid alcohol, because it was a rough night) and eat microwave popcorn and frozen pizza.

Having my brothers as well as a few church friends over for some Pizza and Nachos. After that, I will go to bed and have to get up much too early the following morning.....but it will be so worth it when we Hoke orchestrates the beating of the Hokies!

I intend to start drinking heavily in a bit. Not sure if I will go with the martinis that almost ended my life a few days ago (Who knew you can OD on blue cheese stuffed olives?) or if I'll crack open a bottle of rye I picked up over the holidays.

After a few cocktails I'll begin berating the old lady over the fact that buying her a new car and giving gifts to all her useless nieces and nephews were both deemed more essential to the household budget than a trip to NOLA for the game. She will feel bad and I will use this guilt to force her to head out and pick up a mess of chicken wings.

While she's gone I will unsuccesfully force the cat to wear my winged helmet hard hat around the house. The cat will get pissed but forgive me when I let her wear/ruin my old Marlin Jackson jersey.

If we lose I will shout many expletives and frighten the neighbors. If we win l will shout many expletives and frighten the neighbors, though this time it will include more pelvic thrusting and potentially the lighting of a victory cigar. The stinkiness of the cigar will once again remove me from my gal's good graces, at which point I will turn my wrath upon her until I am forced to sleep on the couch, alone with my booze, using only a ripped Marlin Jackson jersey covered in cat hair for a pillow.

It is going to kick ass!

Original plan was my brother's drinking beer and eating bbq brisket. Right now I'm sitting in the waiting room of urgent care because my case of norovirus must of kicked my ass enough to give me something that webmd says is pneumonia :-(

god I hope I get some antibiotics and get the he'll out of here quick

1. I respect that you are sitting in the ER and checking MGoBlog.

2. It is more than 3 hours until game time - you should hopefully get out in time. Consider pretending to faint, as that will get you rushed into a room.

3. I am not a doctor, and I don't even play one on TV, but some medical advice that you should absolutely ignore and go with the real Dr (as you are doing): I assume from the WEBMd diagnosis that your main symptom is an insanely persistent cough. I have had actual pneumonia 4 times, and the ONLY thing that works to stop the cough - I am not kidding - is small 1/2 shots of Johnny Walker (or Bacardi, but I prefer JW). Remember, small shots, as the goal is not to get drunk, just to quell the cough. This actually works, and it just so happens to coincide with an otherwise nice way to watch a football game.

Lmao this place is actually pretty dead, cough is actually gone just can't take more than a shallow breath before the pain. They ain't telling me nothing but they are thinking something I'm sure.... I hate when people do that.

Mainly here because my fiance will kill me if she know my symptoms and I don't do anything about them. And I'm a hysterical football watcher win or lose she would know something is up if I just sit there because it hurts to get worked up

1. Watch Capital One Bowl. 2. Make hotel reservations for Michigan v Penn State Lacrosse game next month. 3. Make hotel reservations for Spring game/Michigan Lacrosse in April. 3. DVR game duet o sons basketball practice. 4. Then hopefully be live by Q2. 5. Pour one of 2 beers ontap in the basement (Molson Canadian or Yuengling Black and Tan). 6. Enjoy a Michigan Bowl Victory! Go Blue!

It's awesome your wife's so into Michigan football as you are. Mines like "Football, what's a football?" She's pretty supportive of the team, but is absolutely clueless during the game.

I'll be watching from home as well on my 50 inch Vizio. The wife's whipping up some ceviche de camarones (latino shrimp cocktail). Plenty of craft brew on chill...ready to get this show on the road!

I like your style.

You need to get your wife more into the games, though. Here's what I did:

When we got married, my wife hated football. About mid-way through the first season during our marriage, before one of the games, she said, "really, another saturday? Do you have to watch every single game?"

I made her a deal: I would take her to Michigan for a game during the following season, and if after spending a weekend in AA and going to the game, she wasn't hooked, I would either agree to DVR 1/2 of the games and watch them at night, we would get divorced (kidding, sort of) or work out some other workable solution.

So, the following year, I took her to AA for the ND game. Got tickets in the student section, despite being a few years out of school. On the flight down from NY, there were a ton of M fans, and while we were delayed on the runway, the plane broke out into a singing of the Victors. By the time we landed, she started to "get it." Much like any other recruiting trip, the campus and the town sold itself. Around 11:00, we began our walk to the stadium from the Campus Inn. About 1/2 way down state street, between the tens our thousands of other fans making their way to the stadium singing the Victors over and over, to the house parties along the way, to the first look down into the bowl of the Big House, my wife was hooked. She bought a jersey at halftime, and by the end of the season, she knew the entire starting line-up. Now, she is a fanatic M fan who just decorated our basement (which is just an open playroom for my son) with Michigan carpet.

True story.

A bottle of Johnny Walker and my brother's company while yelling at my TV, hoping that will change things if/when something goes wrong.

Sitting at home because all of the BCS bowls are on weekdays for some reason and I have to go to work tomorrow. Seriously, why is the sugar bowl on a Tuesday and the MNCG on a Monday? Are they afraid too many people will watch if it's on a Saturday?

Watching at home with my husband and kids, homemade gumbo, which I already screwed up once so now I'm on my second batch. Making roux is a bitch.

My dad and fellow Michigan buds are heading over. We've got a stock pile of New Years leftover beer (we're getting older and sadly get tired before we get drunk anymore). The game will be on my Vizio. At some point time will slow as I stop and take in the fact that my favorite team (maybe even thing) in the entire world is winning at the sugar bowl, my best friends and my pops are all surrounding me, and the beer is ice cold.
