Best seats in the Big House?

Submitted by Gil From Omaha on
My Dad and I are going to the BYU game for my first game in the Big House after a quick pit stop in Chicago Friday for a Cubs game. What section and rows are the best for us? We like to be close and around the 40-40 yard lines; not too close but you can see the whole field without being in the upper part of the bowl. What areas would you reccomend? Go Blue!

See, I would disagree with this. That side of the stadium has only one entrance/exit for each section. The other side of the stadium (section 1) has two entrance/exit points in each section. The top exit leads to a little upper catwalk and makes that side of the stadium way less busy because the sections are split between two areas outside the stadium. If you go to the bathroom on either side, you'll notice a huge difference in the crowds. Additionally, if you sit lower in the bowl on the section 24 side, it will take you twice as long to get to the exit.

Ha - I'm flying into Chicago for a concert on Friday, then driving to Ann Arbor right after to stay at my mother's house before going to the BYU game, then driving directly back to Chicago for another concert Saturday night after the game. I hope we have good weather for the Chicago drive! Anyway - my season tickets are on the aisle on the 35 yard line 21 rows up on the Michigan side. I refuse to give these seats up since I have the aisle,  but if I could pick any seats in the Big House, I would go dead center on the 50 yrd line - between rows 10 and 20. I've done row A before and it's just too close to get a good perception of the entire field. In all honesty, there really isn't a bad seat anywhere, but I would stick to your plan between the 40's and somewehere between rows 10 and 30. I also think that you can get a great deal if you wait to buy your tickets the morning of the game. There were a ton of tickets left for the Oregon State game and that was Harbaugh's first game, I can't imagine there are going to be any less tickets available for this game - and probably under face value too.

Everyone is different, but for you specifically, I would recommend somewhere around either of the two 40 yard lines, and then about midway up the stadium. That way you won't be too close where you can see the whole field, but won't be in the upper part of the bowl.

Hope this helps.

This is the level where you enter in. Easy in and out. High enough to give you a good perspective anywhere around the entire stadium. Saves you a lot of money if your seats are in the end zone.

If you want to sit between the 30's I'd opt for around row 40-50. This is where I sit during the spring game when you can pick your own seat.

The more seats in your tolerance zone the better chance of geting a more competitive price.

I've sat in the top row in the north end zone for almost 30 years, nothing better. Can sit or stand whenever you want, lean back on the wall, and you see the whole field and can watch plays develop. Might be far away, but binoculars fix that and you are never obstructed

Like others have said, in reality there is not a bad seat in Michigan Stadium, but I also agree with this - if you want to see plays develop and get a good view of, say, a nice, sustained drive as it marches toward the end zone, being in or near an end zone section is probably best for that. Indeed, when I am able and my tickets have not been in those sections, I have been known to migrate to those sections during games.

I had north end zone seats, high up.  You felt like a coach up there watching the plays develop "Watch the Tight End!  Watch the tight End!".  It was like an Xs and Os diagram come to life.

But you have to have a coach-level interest in the game to enjoy those seats.  Otherwise the action moves kind of slow and laborious from that perspective.

Since you get a little bit more leg room for final couple of years when my stepdad had season tickets got the aisle seats. There isn't a bad seat in The Big House.

In the mid 90s I bought tickets to Memorial Stadium to see Michigan on the road and sat in front of a large steal beam that came down from the second deck. I though I had good seats since I did not see the beam!

The best seats that meet your criteria are in the President's box. It is between the 40s (in fact it's at midfield), you can see the whole field, and you aren't in the bowl at all, so you don't have to worry about being in the upper part of it. The only drawback here is that you will need a time machine to start endowing the scholarship several months ago, so you get invited in time for the BYU game.

You literally just described the best seats, just buy them. Nice humble brag about your plans before the game too, Wrigley is pretty cool.

Visitors/east side. It is one row below handicapped row. Your backrest is a wall. You can stand the entire game and the people behind you can still see. That is where I sit. I have the aisle. Would not give these up for 2 seats in a suite.

There isn't a bad seat in the stadium. It's a huge bowl, so there's no obstructions to get in your way.

While I'm not a big fan of sitting in the end zone, wherever you sit is a great seat.

The seats were on the 35 (section 24).  I liked the perspective from that high up plus I was right next to the entrance to the tunnel.  I've also sat on the 45 in te 32nd row and those seats were good (obviously) but it was a long walk up to the tunnel especially with everyone else on the move.  I think that I like the higher up seats better.  (It helps to have a boss who is one of the largest donors in the history of the university!  He has a bunch of seats plus a box.)
