Turkish bath, spices, a rug.
Then we dropped in for a dinner. Our usual response to "what will you have" is "what is your favorite/best dish?"
Testi-kebab. Ok. Never heard of it, sounds good.
The meal is a beef stew like dish. It is cooked in a terra cotta pitcher, the top sealed with bread dough, which sits in a brick wood burning oven.
When it is served, the waiter brings the pitcher out on a metal pan, and uses a large, blunt, curved knife to crack the top of the pitcher off.
Smells.... Oh the smells.
He then ladles the food out onto a plate lined with a soft spongy bread, with roasted veggies circling the plate.
This dinner, with an appetizer, 4 beers and two wines cost 45€, with tip.
They destroy the cookware in the process of serving the food. And it cost less than I've spent at Taco Bell for two people at 3:00am.
Hands down, best thing I've ever eaten.
I currently have a taste for chicken kiev which, when prepared properly, is scrumptious.... Of course, could be rumbling stomach talking.... I also really enjoy shrimp and crawfish etouffee when made properly as well, so there's that.... :-)
My stepmoms homemade spaghetti and meatballs
A steak at the old Sierra Room in GR. I went shook the cook's hand afterwards. It's now out of business.

The California Roll at Uni-Sushi in Suprrise AZ might just be the best pound for pound sushi roll I've tasted. I usually pass on California rolls (I usually like spicy tuna, dragon, etc...), but their crab has a little kick to it that just sets it off. And, its only 3 bucks for 8 large pcs 3pm to close every damn day.
A close second would be the Pad Kee Mao at Tom Yum as long as you get beef and hot heat - best Thai I've had across the US. I'm going to Thailand next fall so I'm going to find a new 2nd place.
