Bennie Coney to UC Bearcats

Submitted by 74polSKA on

This probably isn't a big surprise or disappointment to many MGoBloggers, but QB recruit Bennie Coney has commited to the U of Cincinnati according to ESPN and 24/7 Sports.  I know the recruitment had cooled in recent months but he is now off the board.  Seems like a pretty good get for UC and I hope things work out for Coney.  With Shane Morris in the fold for 2013, the chances of taking a QB in this class seem to be getting pretty slim.  I'm sure TomVH will let me know if I'm wrong, in cryptic Tom-ese that is.

unless they can snake-oil a really good one away from someone else late in the process.  But, they probably won't have a scholarship available to do that given other needs.

Maybe we should use "Michigan Man" as a verb now.  Like "I hope we can Michigan Man Bironte Dunn" and give him a great place to play football and get an education."

That's true, however I think we should always adjust our memes to fit the guys we have in place right now. If you force a meme into a situation where you don't have the right players, you're really going to struggle. I suggest that perhaps we use some type of hybrid system in this case until we have a few recruiting classes completed.

Normally I'd agree with you but I think this year we have to make an exception. We've missed on all our targets, so whoever we get is not likely to be an elite kid. And even if we tried going for a different guy, that's a tough sell with Morris coming in 2013. Pretty much anyone we bring in at this point will be for depth purposes only. It would also take a scholarship away, and we have bigger needs at other positions, and better calibre of players interested. Ideally, we'd take a QB every class but this is a year where circumstance makes it impractical.

this is not a big deal at all.  Much bigger commitment for UofC than loss for UofM.  And probably a good decision on his part seeing all the attention that a High School Junior is getting over himself.  Brady hasn't even had time to call the kid cuz his phone rings non-stop with prospects calling him and committing to MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!
