Glad St. Juste is getting recognition for his abilities, but aren't all these wild swings (both up and down) in the rankings based on one camp weekend evidence of how much of a crapshoot guru rankings are?  It makes the emotional overreactions peope have about rankings seem dumb.  They have "ball park" or directional value only.

Yes and no. It is a big reaction based off of one week, but it's also a week their scouts can actually see players in person instead of film and see how they do compared to equal talent.

Like I remember watching Jake Butt and Jourdan Lewis in person at the Opening and thinking they were going to be studs, because they were consistently "who is that guy?" type players. I also remember thinking Morris and Green were over rated, for the opposite reasons. Lots of mistakes or completely being a non factor.

I don't know. Some people just can't get it no matter what. I went to a solid half dozen or more camps he attended and at every camp, every coach told him to use a lighter touch on the ball and not throw a fast ball when it's a 5 yard pass.

And yet and every subsequent camp there he was throwing the fastball. And at Michigan? Still throwing that fastball and lacking touch. Honestly doubt much would change with 3 more years even with Harbaugh.

Disagree. Yeah, Hoke, Borges, and Nuss probably cost him a shot in the NFL, but at least he has his name on the record books and is a beloved and lamented figure in our memories. Shane was supposed to be a star - he was recruited to be a star. Instead, he was under-coached, criticized, concussed, criticized some more, written off, and is now so far behind that injuries to Speight and O'Korn would probably result in Peters taking over. Maybe he never would have panned out - see the guy who replied before you - but we'll never know. That's why I move for an official MGoBlog rule that a QB's actual skill/potential not be judged if he foundered under Hoke.

No, but at the AA game skills competition, Shane couldn't hit targets even five yards down the field. That's when I started thinking he might not produce. I tried to excuse it on the mono and.. Oh my god, why do I know that much about a freaking high school kid?
