Beilein Once Smashed His Own Birthday Cake
John Beilein didn't always celebrate birthday parties by eating subs. In his younger days, he was once so upset by a loss that he smashed his own birthday cake against the wall. It was crazy.

I was skeptical about this story based on the title of the post, but it's a surprisingly good read, touching on Beilein's upbringing and how he arrived at his offensive philosophy.

Probably had more to do with the lack of subs at the party than the loss

I feel like we have the best basketball coach in the country, hands down.
I also love that Beilein's mother once walked out of a Syracuse game at the Carrier Dome because of biased officiating. If we get past Florida, we'll have to take on 'cuse. The Beilein family has a long history of hating them, it seems.

Then you've won an all expenses paid trip to Bolivia, sir.
Beilein considers Boeheim a mentor; Boeheim's recommendation was essential in every D1 job Beilein got before Michigan.

I am appalled by Beilein's behavior on that day. Michigan men do NOT smash cakes. #firebeilein

Bo would have smashed a cake after a loss, too. Birthday cakes and losing locker rooms are a messy combination.
Am I the only one who thought this was some kind of bizarre reference to Beilein avoiding the practices of Steve Fisher?
He wouldn't come in for the evening until he made 15 straight free throws
I wonder if Nik Stauskas reminded him of his young self.
