Beilein hints that Anthony Wright will not be granted a fifth year

Submitted by Jivas on

I vaguely recall there being questions raised as to whether Ant's scholarship would free up after this coming year; this seems to answer that. Pardon if this was covered elsewhere or is otherwise common knowledge - based upon my memory of comments here and at UM Hoops, I was under the impression that this was still up in the air.

From the Blue Ribbon Yearbook team preview of Michigan over at ESPN ($):

"He was a big part of our postseason," Beilein said of Wright. "Hopefully he'll end his career on an upbeat note."

There you go.

The possibility certainly exists. But given that Beilein's responses were for a preview of THIS SEASON, it's a reasonable inference that Beilein is indicating that Wright's career will end after THIS SEASON.

Again, not definitive proof, but an interesting quote that probably nudges the needle further towards "no" on the 5th year.

I am a server here at the ihop in Champaign and Brandon ate 67% of his waffles. Judging by the half empty bottle of syrup he is ready to rock.

Ok, I think you might be reading a bit much into that quote. Regardless, why not grant it for the 5th year? we still have an open scholarship for Trey, and if manny leaves(likely) we will have two open ships. Is there anyone else we are in on that we would need an extra scholarship or two going into next season that would necessitate forcing out a great team player?
