Beilein Basketball Camp/Ann Arbor Art Fair Open Thread
Crisler Center was abuzz with the opening day of the John Beilein Player Developement Camp.
I dropped off my 9th grade son and his friend for four days of basketball instruction with Coach Beilein and his staff/players.
They provided a very detailed schedule/agenda, which, knowing Coach Beilein, will be followed to the minute. Looks like there is a variety of activities, including drills, games, instruction, talks, etc.
We were greeted at the doors of the Crisler Center by Austin Hatch and Sean Lonergan. Duncan Robinson was standing near the door when I left after registering my son and his friend.
The kids stay at South Quad. My son enjoyed going online and looking at pictures of the dorm and checking out the daily food menu.
My wife's aunt and cousin from Cleveland (no relation to MGrowOld) are in town for the Art Fair, so we'll be up in Ann Arbor tomorrow and then on Sunday to pick up my son from the basketball camp.
Anyone else on here have kids at the camp? Any of you young folks participated in the camp before?
We really like the Art Fair and have purchased many items over the years and still have them on our walls/tables/shelves. Are you an Art Fair supporter or detractor?
Here's hoping my son attacks the basketball camp with Enthusiasm Unknown To Mankind!
There an age limit at this camp? Speaking for a 26 year old I know...

But I always traveled in for it. I can understand how it disrupts the locals.
Also I've found I want to buy all of it and can afford none of it. which is frustrating
I have gone from UHMS to Liberty and Maple without any delays. Easy peasy.
and rarely go to the Art Fair anymore. Yes, we have a couple framed pictures on the wall we bought there. But, A) we've run out of wall space to put more, and B) have gotten sick of the increasingly overcrowded conditions at the Fair over the years. Throw in the awful traffic and lack of parking anywhere near the downtown and campus, and we would gladly leave town for the week like many others do if we could.
Parking is really bad in Ann Arbor. Mind-boggling bad
As a former Ann Arborite living in the 'burbs I no longer attend due to traffic, lack of parking and crowds. My son has graduated but still lives in A2 until his lease is up and has moved home for the duration of the Art Fair.
I enjoyed it in the 80's when it was smaller and I was single. It used to be a decent date activity. My son claims all he saw attending last year were "blue hairs", a group which I will soon be joining.
I was just at Art Fair yesterday. I make a point to go every year, and I love it. Of course, I go more for the food/beer, street entertainers, and general people watching. The highlights of the day were:
1) A very good human mannequin who induced a fit of delighted giggles from a 10-year-old girl.
2) A very tart and refreshing ale called "Bam Biere" at Jolly Pumpkin, which I was clued into by the beer experts on this here blog, and thanks very much for the tip.
3) The incredibly cute bartender at JP, who made me wish I was 27 again. (Oh, not that I'd have gotten anywhere with a girl like that when I was younger. I'd just like to be 27 again.)
4) Seeing the plaque for Jesse Owens' four world records at Ferry Field (which, shamefully, I'd never seen before).
5) Taking my nephew's advice and going to Pizza Bob's (his old employer) for what he described as "the world's greatest milkshake." Verdict: If it isn't the best, I'd love to see what is. (And I laughed at how quickly the kid behind the counter told me what Harbaugh's favorite shake is.)
And I think there might have been some art, too.
Spill it. Not the milkshake, but the name of Harbaugh's favorite.
Unfortunately, I didn't catch all of what he said. I know it involved a lot of milk. Whole milk, though. Not the candy-ass two percent or skim milk.
And it's mixed with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
And caramel.
love that camp! I better check it out for next year! I only attended Art fair as a poor student, and admittedly it was only to socialize, people watch, and drink.
Is that a picture of 906 Greenwood for your profile pic, 1989 UM GRAD?
It sure is. I lived in that house sophomore year!
Yes, it is! A few people on here have indicated they also lived there. I was there in 88-89. Yes, I'm old enough to be your dad.
I live in Ann Arbor and can't stand the art fair. I love the summers here, with the exception of this week

I live in Ann Arbor and love the Art Fair.
I can't believe how upset people get about a few minutes added to their commute or whatever. Ride a bike. Walk. Use the bus.
My sons do the shooting academy. They're a bit younger. It was a great time again.

Wife and I are traveling up for the day tomorrow. I have heard the parking is a bitch. If we get there in the late morning will I have trouble finding parking or should I just plan on being shuttled in?
If you know Ann Arbor really well, you can find a space. We've been able to find one every year. Takes some patience and knowledge of the downtown/campus areas.
I just started working for the University, and this my first Art Fair. While I have enjoyed it, I can easily see how it can piss someone off!
I can't believe Harbaugh missed the Art Fair.
