Beckman

It's great watching the old videos lately and a few have included Frank's call of the plays as opposed to my favorite Keith Jackson or some other knucklehead on the TV side and it kind of came to me that Frank is pretty underrated and under appreciated around here. Anybody got a favorite Youtube clip with a lot of Frank on it or is there a place with some of his calls you can listen. Don't listen to the radio much anymore(wife knows we have nothing going on Saturdays Sep-Nov) or the rare occassion now I go silent and Tivo it instead of listen. It's kinda sad, because he does a great job and it's great hearing his "Touchdown Meeeechigan"

Hey Ziff72, You can have the best of both worlds if you have a Tivo/DVR...I mentioned this on the boards a few weeks ago, but the radio feed on the internet at mgoblue.com is way behind the video on tv (usually about 30-45 seconds). So if you play the audio from the internet you can use your DVR/Tivo to match them up and get the UM radio announcers with the video from TV. I just put my laptop on my coffee table and turn the volume up...It works pretty darn well, except when I try to go full on multi-media and also do the chat room thing and everyone is griping or cheering 30 seconds before I see what happened, hehe Aug

I really liked the call on the last second mercury hayes catch to beat virginia. Does anyone know where you can find a clip of the Beckman call?

Frank was calling Tigers games still and missed the first month of the season. Henry also the voice of '89 NCAA championship and the Fab Five. I think Shep does a nice job but Henry has some the best pipes in the business and I wish he still did games. Also they came out with a Michigan CD like ten years ago that has that call on it along with a great Ufer clip and some bad music that you can probably find used on Amazon.

Listening to every game on the radio (as I virtually did last year) you get the sense that Frank is sort of unenthusiastic. Certainly not what I remembered from when I was younger... the guy seemed to cheer when the other team scored (especially State, does he have a kid there or something?) EDIT: So, I don't think I got my point across very well here. I loved Frank for years... maybe it was something about the team last year or just me being away from the team and relying completely on the radio for the first time ever, but there was something off about him.

Watching that after the last 20 years may have shocked Frank into a state of shock. You think watching that week to week didn't sap everyones enthusiasm?? If he doesn't pick it up this year you can pound him. I say he gets a pass for lat year.

In general, I love hearing homers call my team's games. When Beckman retires, I hope that they get a guy who bleeds maize and blue to replace him.

When I listen to Ufer's old calls, I can't believe that guy used to be on the radio. We're lucky to have excellent voices call Michigan football. The guy who does the calls on the Michigan Stadium PA is priceless too.

I don't know where to find it, but I love Beckmann's call of the last-second field goal to beat Washington. Gives me goosebumps. Something I especially appreciate about that call is that after giving the necessary information ("MICHIGAN WINS!" in that fantastic gravelly yell of his), he stops talking and lets the audience enjoy the raucous crowd. The ability and good judgment to stop talking when the crowd says all that needs to be said is something I appreciate in an announcer, and something I think ESPN announcers don't comprehend ("If I don't talk, this moment won't make sense!").

For an incredibly stupid reason that was out of my control, I had to leave that Washington game early. Turned on the radio in the parking lot right as Neinberg missed that chip shot in the 4th. We were on the freeway when Brabbs hit the game winner, and looking at the cars around us, we weren't the only ones listening to the game. That call is embedded in my skull.

I love Frank Beckman. Heck, when my dad and I go to games at the big house, we bring a little radio with us so we can hear his thoughts after scores. These are the games I uploaded that have Beckman doing the audio with the ABC footage... 1989 Michigan vs. Iowa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcnUDjMJ9E0 2001 Michigan vs. Wisconsin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUCg9I2l_pY 1991 Michigan vs. Illinois http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF9JUlHZi4M 1981 Michigan vs. Illinois http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVwdwN5Pzec 1991 Michigan vs. Iowa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQNQhXe1qMk 2003 Michigan vs. Ohio State http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyRAP54yN24 2004 Michigan vs. Michigan State http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVZUKiRuIHk
