Beaver: Hackett taking a run at Harbaugh through the 49ers

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

longtime user Paly33 posted this in the thread below this one.

Don't want to start a new thread for this but over on Scout board, (GBW writer Tom) Beaver claims that one of his sources has a friend close to SF situation that Hackett will be making a major move for JH "through the 49ers". It would be bigger than what we would've thought was possible.

The anticipation is destroying me! I can hardly focus on the papers that I'm supposed to be writing... Help us Jim, you're our only hope!

Two online tests to take, three finals in the next two days, and four essays to write by monday. And yet I can't tear myself away from this dang site. When that rejection letter from UM Law comes I'll be able to pinpoint this weekend as the reason.

so if things have progressed to the point that Michigan is negotiating a buy-out of Harbaugh's contract, doesn't that imply that Jim Harbaugh has agreed to take the Michigan job?

but will not be announced until the 49ers season is over. I think JH has more fun coaching college players than pro players. And probably why JH would like to return to being a college coach for a while. I hope all these leaks don't screw things up!

How many touchdowns are we favored by?  Mind you they are making JH coach with no headset and blind folded to even things up.

Hope I am wrong but expectations aare a little high.  First we should higher him, Second know before hand if it takes time it takes time.

Assuming SF intends to unass JH, a friendly agreement is made to allow JH to resign now without any more bad blood.  Michigan gets their man with minimal lost time.  JH goes back home where people actually like him and no bridges were burned on the way out.  Hopefully recruits stop decommitting.  SF saves Harbaugh's salary and doesn't waste time, effort and money negotiating a trade.  SF doesn't have to face JH on the opposing sidelines for a couple of years.

Everybody wins.

If we land Harbaugh (or even Miles), the decommits be running back to re-commit at light speed.  Others that weren't interested, that turned us down, will re-look our way.  Harbaugh would be a huge game changer based on how well he coached up the kids at Stanford.  All the recruiter has to do is say "you could be the next Andrew Luck" and that is hard to say no to.

Let's don't get too far in front of ourselves. This is all speculation. You have to believe Hackett has been working on this for weeks. Maybe that why he had a couple of smirks in his news conference.

If Harbaugh wants to stay in the NFL, it's entirely within his rights to do so, and I wouldn't hold it against him for one second.

But you'd think if he wasn't interested, he would've told Hackett by now. I'm hoping he'd have enough respect for his alma mater to do Hackett that courtesy. Even if he's using us as leverage, again, I'd hope he'd have enough respect for Michigan to let them know through back channels that he's not interested.

Even if it gets to the point where we're told a deal is in place, I will refuse to believe he's our coach until he approaches the podium at Schembechler Hall and proclaims it himself. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised that emotionally crushed.

The rumor is that Jim Tomsula could take over as interim coach like he did in 2010 and finish the season. That is the case if Harbaugh gets fired or wants out early. I don't know how creditable it is, I just have read it a few times.

I really believe JH will get us to NC's soon, if he comes. I think he does too - if he decides to take it.

JH has had to watch the last 7 years just like us. He has had to think "if I was coaching ...I would do etc etc" He has to be just as pissed - or even more pissed than we were, watching Dantonio shooting his mouth off, etc etc.

I like the NFL - but fuck the NFL compared to Mich football. I think it's possible he feels the same.

My .02 cents anyway ... &

Jim, I have a 2001 Honda Civic I will donate to the charity of your choice if you come to Ann Arbor and make me not stare at a wall like someone with chronic depression and a failing liver every Saturday afternoon in the fall.

Please come

Please?

I'll take you out to dinner, too.

if this works and Harbaugh is our coach in a couple weeks, a lot of those de-commits will be scrambling to get back in here ASAP.  If you want to get to the NFL, he can coach you up and get you there.  They know that and will be flocking back in.

Don't be so sure. Recruits were attracted by Hokes paternal mentality and demeanor and I am sure Jim H's style will attract different types of recruits (I.e competitors not softies). I have no doubt some will want back in - but I think we will be recruiting different types of players under Jim.

this thread is just one ginormous circle jerk. And it feels good. And I'll say for the third time, with all of this fucking foreplay it is going to be one hell of a money shot.

SB Nation had a break down of the 49ers odds of making the playoffs. Basically if they lose to Seattle or Arizona they only have a 25% chance of making it.  If they lose two there are  ton of scenarios, but the highest is 22%, most in the 4-5% range.   1-3 and the odds are very bad.

Long story short, if he loses to Oakland and Seattle (only 5.3% chance of making playoffs with help) he could be available in two weeks.

Its going to be intresting to see if Charles Woodson greets Harbaugh before/after the game on Sunday, and the nature of boths body language........I thought Harbaughs body language today spoke volumes when asked about MIchigan.

The sudden fixing of the hat, bulging of the adams apple, etc. when asked about Michgan the second time.

Alright, I need to go to bed.

The lawyer in me agrees with the physician in you.

As a trial lawyer, one of the most important skills that you can have is the ability to read a witness. Everyone has "tells" - nervous tics, excess movement, certain eye movement patterns.

What I noticed about Harbaugh in the same presser (some of this may sound like over analysis, but these are thinks that trained observers will note):

1. Immediately after the Michigan question, he abruptly adjusted his hat. Watch the minutes before and after the Michigan questioning. No other hat adjustments. Now, go back and watch his press conference from the week before if you have time. The only times he adjusted his hat were when asked particularly difficult questions about his team's mentality, reason for losses, etc.

Does this mean that he is coming here? Hell no - it just means that the line of questioning makes him nervous. Perhaps he is in talks or considering the position? Perhaps at some level he wanted the job but already said no. Why knows.

2. When the Michigan question is asked, you can visibly see Harbaugh prepare to answer. The other questions he answered off the cuff, but as soon as the Michigan questions were asked, you could see him prepare to give an answer that was an obviously-rehearsed non-answer.

3. Not specific to the Michigan questions, but his demeanor for the whole presser was a bit off. Yeah, JH is an odd guy, but his whole body language said that he didn't want to be there, and was just mentally somewhere else. He was distracted.

Again, this doesn't mean he is coming to Michigan. Perhaps he just had bad Mexican food for lunch or was thinking about getting home in time to set his fantasy football roster. Or, more likely, he was stressed about his current situation. but he was off.

So he is dealing with SanFran brass directly. They don't want Harbaugh to coach SanFran anymore, but don't want to pay the 5 million by firing him. Harbaugh would like to be fired so he can collect the money for the last year of his contract. They are at an impasse. Instead, an agreement is reached with SanFran/Harbaugh to resign at the end of the season/playoffs. Michigan pays HARBAUGH the five million( factored in to his contract) and is paid a king's ransom to coach Michigan. Around 8 million a year?
