Beaver: Hackett taking a run at Harbaugh through the 49ers

would turn us from CFB laughing stock to "Oh, now that's the motherfucking MICHIGAN I remember" immediately. It would show that Michigan is still a major player in football on all levels. School? Pumped. Fans? Fuuuuu yes! Recruits? Lining up. Rivals? On Notice, "What's ur deal?" on the way There is a homerun hire and a grand slam hire regarding Harbaugh. Outbidding the NFL while landing Jim is Grand Slam material.

Considering the Raiders just got beat 52-0 by St Louis, I give that a solid 9% chance of happening.

None of these other talks are even happening if Harbaugh isn't on board.  Hackett doesn't bother dealing with the 9ers (if that's what's really happening) if JH hasn't already said that he wants to coach at Michigan.  If he's not on board, no amount of financial inter-workings are going to do any good.  Hackett likely got Harbaugh's blessing first, and then went to the 49ers.  

God damn, I hope this is all true.  

But Brady would probably do better than Erickson.

Wow.  First question he dodged.  Second one he said literally nothing until the next guy asked a question.  That's not bad.

Harbaugh looked like he did NOT want to be at that press conferece.  Even more than usual.  Maybe something IS up. 

Now I want him even more, he's going to drive the press batty.

This is spot on. If Hackett can't get Harbaugh, he sure as hell better make it as unambiguous as possible that he did everything possible to try to make it happen.

Fans don't need to know anything. The announcement of the next coach, who ever it is, will be enough.

if there are numerous targets that are approached without a deal coming through.   a 'bold move' that is merely a recon mission and results in a public rejection isn't going to advance our cause. 

This could be true. A lot of people are under the assumption Harbaugh doesn't know where he wants to go. Only 3-4 more weeks of this. Maybe not if Harbaugh just want to GTFO of SF.

i don't get.  It's your alma mater and a place and people (mostly) you hold in respect.  Just say "I am not interested in the Michigan coaching job, but I wish them all the luck in their search and will help them in any way I can to find the right individual who has all of the qualities that Michigan deserves in its football coach."  I suspect he understand our timeline/swimlanes so if it's not to be, why not make it clear so Hackett can move on.

And he wouldn't even have to announce it if he still wanted us as contract leverage. He could just call Hackett privately and tell him thanks but no thanks. And if he still loves M as much as he used to I think he would do us that courtesy.

Oh there's no doubt the ball is completely in his court.  If he wants the job and for whatever pay, it's his.

all wrong if you think he's going to go begging like a spurned woman. If he wants Harbaugh he will make a deal from a position of strength.
