The Beav

Submitted by Shakespeare on

As the Harbaugh era approaches, I want to pay tribute to the unsung hero of the Harbcoming... Jay "The Beav" Flannelly.

Per "Endzone" The Beav played an instrumental role in bringing Jim home. Let's raise our glasses to The Beav and make sure he's never without a fresh beer come the weekend of September 12th when serendipitously, Jim Harbaugh coaches his first home game at Michigan Stadium against... The Beavers.

To The Beav: May the immense good you've done pay fruitful dividends in the future.

As someone who had some attachment to the program, albeit prior to the Beav arriving, after listening to the entire 30 min interview it seemed a fair amount of embellishment may have been going on. I have to believe that there were many more close insiders who may have had much more influence in events than Beav. Probably won't know for sure unless Brady comes forward someday.

I agree. He seemed like a nice enough guy but he sounded like he embellished and padded just how important he was in all this. I have a feeling Jim would have most certainly have shown up to Michigan without him contacting Brady. Also not to say that Brady already was planning on contacting Jim or another alum was asking Brady to do the same? I have to admire JUB, he did a good job getting a coherent version of the story out of this guy.

A year ago, a lot of people wouldn't have bought the idea that right now, Jim Harbaugh would be coaching football at the University of Michigan.  I buy it.  Thank you, Beav.  /salutes

Has been place on a tee for those to whack this guy into Tom Brady's court jester. Feel bad for the guy when he can't see the back patting from the mockery. Fun for a minute but would not want to be in his shoes. Poor fella. Be nice y'all.

Whenever I here of the "beav", always think of that wonderful homespun show "Leave it to Beaver".  And in honor of Harbaugh we have shirtless Wally and the Beav....

"Gee Wally, why did we have to take our shorts off just because this Harbaugh guy did???  And why is Eddie Haskell in the corner rubbing his hands in his pockets???"

I worked with Jay. It's interesting that he's getting all this acclaim, and I look forward to reading about him in Endzone. I'm curious if the man of the tale lines up with the guy I knew.

I heard JUB discussing Jay's "involvement" as well.  I can't speak to that, but I was somewhat surprised to hear his name come up after all these years.  Jay tried to be a student manager back in the early-mid 90's.  None of us were sure how it even came about (he knew someone who knew Jon Falk I think).  He lasted the first week of two-a-days and then got booted.  He really just wanted to hang around practice, he didn't want to work... and was BLATANT about it; like, openly defiant when the head manager would tell him what his responsibilities were he'd just stare at him and shake his head like "you can't be serious." Such an odd deal.  He'd show up to practice wearing leather deck shoes with no socks despite the fact that we were all isssued brand new Nike turf shoes to work in.

A few of the players knew him, but they didn't treat him all that well, in my opinion... and he didn't seem to notice; or didn't want to notice.  I remember one story (true or not I can't say) where he was in a bar bathroom standing next to a certain offensive lineman at the urinals, just yammering and yammering, when the lineman just casually turned and started pissing on him.  Jay was like "whoa!  You're drunk dude!" and laughed it off.  But according to the guy who witnessed it, it was clearly and entirely on purpose.  It was like some players just let him hang around so they had someone to humiliate.

You would sort of feel bad for the guy, but then he'd come off so pompous, and would exagerate things, like his football accumen or his "connections" to prominent players, to such a degree that you'd just get mad at him... which then, later, made you feel bad for him all over again... like he had something really wrong with him.

This is what I was referring to above.  At his participation level, it would be rare to be "one of the guys" when you're picking up jocks all afternoon.  Maybe through his friendships with Carr's son, etc, he may have been different but what you describe is more the norm, especially if you are kind of an asshole.

I think it is more proable than not, that Beav and Tom Brady are friends or at least generally aware that they are friends based on the emails and interviews conducted.  Unlike the Wells report, we have direct evidence to the relationship.

As a sidenote, I love the media commentators that can't understand why Tom Brady won't accept any responsibility, sign any statements or acknowledge any role in alleged deflated balls.  They can't phantom that someone in this day in age values integrity over expediency.

By the way when Brett Favre refused to turn over his cell phone on Penisgate, he received a fine ($50k).  I hope the judge references Jay Feeley in his ruling to show what witch hunt this was.
