Beat Virginia.
With all of the attention on the BCS snubs, and the "travesty" that the Sugar bowl apparently is thanks to Virginia Tech , I think it is time to build some positive energy towards our bowl opponent. Beat Ohio worked out well. How about some Beat Virginia.

Not that I agree with this "beat Virginia" nonsense either, but you do also realize that Ohio is a school seperate from osu, yet that didn't stop us from calling the buckeyes "Ohio." In other words, I agree with not calling VaTech Virginia, but not b/c of your logic. I think you've completely missed the boat on what we've been calling OSU over the past few months...

Unfortunatley, you jump to incorrect conclusions. I grew up in Ohio, so YES I know that Ohio is different from OSU. The difference is OhioU, as everyone from Ohio calls it, has little to no presence in the state. It is dominated by OSU, so much so that people wear OSU gear to the OhioU football games. If VT people see us saying beat Virginia, they will just laugh and think we are idiots. It won't bother them in the least, infact they may relish it because they have been the king of football in the state of Virginia for ages. I can't remember the last time UVA beat VT. VT has huge presence in the state of Virginia in general. The best part of saying Beat Ohio is that is means something (going back to Woody and TSUN) and it pisses OSU people off. It does not carry the same weight with VT, so there is no point and we just look stupid.

Historically significant cause Woody wouldn't use "Michigan." But in addition, they do Script Ohio, not Script Ohio State and band's drums have Ohio on them.
December 6th, 2011 at 11:22 AM ^
And the play in Ohio Stadium. And they do an O-H-I-O cheer as well as OH-IO.
December 6th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
In addition to your points Ohio's school song is "Carmen Ohio", not "Carmen Ohio State".

Actually call it OU, not OhioU.
December 6th, 2011 at 11:25 AM ^
Yes, I never heard anyone call in OhioU, it was always OU (as in two letters not "ewww" or whatever the phonetic pronunciation of "ou" would be)
December 6th, 2011 at 7:24 AM ^
means anything .... JUST WIN THE GAME ..... GO BLUE !!!
December 6th, 2011 at 7:26 AM ^
so if we play West Virginia, we're going to say Beat West? This Beat Ohio thing is going a bit too far.
December 6th, 2011 at 10:13 AM ^
I agree. It's a way to disrespect a hated rival who had whooped our asses for almost a decade straight. It was actually sincere for some people. It carries none of that significance for this bowl game.

Hoke the Hokies!

I Just like the sound of it.

Hokies gonna Hoke

Good thread idea. Bad thread title

with proper names for nonrivals, then 'beat Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University' is clearly the battle cry that is going to rally our boys to victory.

Beat VippySue?
It captures their ridiculous full name, and makes fun of the fact that they are jorts wearing rednecks. Additional Bonus: Sounds like a girl's name.

That phrase belies contempt, I have nothing but respect for V Tech other than their weak resume this year.
December 6th, 2011 at 12:43 PM ^
That's easy to cure: all you have to do is meet a few. They watch one game a week, think they are the only school in the country with any traditions, and act like college football started in 1995. A clueless, infuriating bunch.

Beat VPI? Sufficiently old school.

1 Hoke > 100 Hokies

my votes for "Hoke the Hokies"
December 6th, 2011 at 9:38 AM ^
"Let's Go Blue!"
Does that work? Works for me.
December 6th, 2011 at 9:56 AM ^
That's what I called them when I lived in Virginia.
December 6th, 2011 at 10:40 AM ^
can't see much point in trying to disparage Virginia Tech - let's stay classy with them
December 6th, 2011 at 10:55 AM ^
Ohio is a rival team, don't diminish The Game by equating it with our upcoming bowl game

Beat Virgin
What the heck, as long as we are shortening things.

not dilute the unique rivalry we have Ohio State by applying the same rhetorical strategy we have with them with a team we have never played.
December 6th, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
That UVA loss is going to hurt our RPI I fear.
December 6th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
I feel ya there brother. It's like as soon as THJ picked up those early fouls you start thinking to yourself, don't slip away...don't slip away.

Beat East Virginia?

Nothing good can come from a buzzed brain on Mgo at 3:30 AM.

LOL....not true. But it is pretty much a hit-or-miss proposition. Not much middle ground.
December 6th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
The final 'save' process for this one essentially came down to...aww, fuck it, enter.

nonononononononono
no
December 6th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
No, no, NO.
Virginia Tech is not OSU. And the actual "Virginia" (UVa) is an academic peer deserving our respect.
This little meme does not work for this situation. At all.

is bad and you should feel bad.
