Big week. I came up from Okeechobee, Florida with my son to surprise my dad for his 60th birthday. He had no idea we were coming. Lots of tears. This week I've gotten to watch my son catch chickens, feed the cows, and sit in the engineers chair of a locomotive. I also got to see my beloved Tigers punch their ticket to the fall classic. Now, my parents are watching my son today so that I can take my older brother (a Staee fan) to the game. My first trip back to the Big House since Northwestern in 2004. I hope we can get a win and cap one of the greatest weeks of my life. Then, it's back to Florida to mske sure everything is ready for my 2nd little Mexigander (made that up myself, as my wife is from Mexico). Win or lose, it's been one for the ages. To the team, and all Michigan fans, good luck and Go Blue!

On the banks of the Red Cedar, there's a team that's known for fail.
Their specialty is dorm attacks, and spending time in Jail.
Blow right through ol' MSU
But watch for personal fouls
that Spartan teams will justify

By their insecurities (Hart Hart Hart!)
See their coaches punish kids
Who agree to testify
FIGHTS! FIGHTS! CALL THEM FIGHTS!
Another loss for MSU!!!

Glad I'm not the only one still awake at this juncture in the "day".  I imagine a few hours will be had before waking up for Gameday (which, where are they broadcasting from this weekend?).  Go Blue.  I slowly, through the week, have been getting amped for this weekend and this game.  Friday it peaked by finally getting myself to ponder last year's bush-league tactics used by the Sparty players.  Damn I'd like to see an old-fashioned Big Ten whooping in the Big House (from my tv) later today....what a dumbass and obvious statement to make.  But it's true.  I don't care if Michigan wins by 3 against the rest of the teams this year (my young-aged blood pressure will) but I want to see a score the whole country wasn't expecting.

I'll take a Bloody Mary first, please.

Huge football day today for me. My high school varsity team (I'm the JV coach) plays at Ford Field today for the Prep Bowl Championship at 1. I'm gonna miss it so I can be in Ann Arbor, spending time with friends and family, especially my UM freshman son. I'm hoping for one of the more memorable football Saturdays in the last half decade.

When I was 9 or so, I heard my dad talk about his time at law school at Michigan. I could tell you he said it was the greatest years of his life, but that wouldn't be true. He said there were three fun things to do in Ann arbor back in his day - watch football, drink beer and slap waitresses on the ass as they walked by. My dad, the immigrant with the funny accent, the little, grey-haired guy who did nothing but read contracts and listen to opera, once watched football, drank beer, and slapped waitresses on the ass? For this American kid that was the greatest and most improbable thing I'd ever heard. I was all in, right there. Rooted hard for Michigan ever since. And it's been a long road, watching from afar. Leading how to say Biakabatuka, and watching him roll over OSU like it ain't nothing. Hearing Keith Jackson welcome you to some windswept, flurrying Midwestern town that seemed a million miles away, watching Michigan on late fall afternoons. Wishing I'd end up at Michigan, and then through the vagaries of life, never goin to school there. Or even visiting. But today, I'm standing on the balcony of my friend's apartment in Detroit. Soon, we're going to get in the car and drive west. And I'm going to see everything. I'm going to see he apartment where my dad lived. Maybe the bar he drank at. The stadium he sat in, watching the only football he ever watched. I'm going to see the biggest stadium in the country, the best band. After 25 years, I'm going to see a Michgan football game. And I'm going to see them beat the hell out of State. Go Blue.
