BEAT STATE thread
This game is huge. I'd like to give them respect but if they play dirty I won't be able to do so. Those images from 2011 still are awful and I hope Lewan remembers them as well.
I love it! GO BLUE!! SMASH STAEE!
That stadium sucks.
I was sitting in the TV tray above the student section, about six rows deep. I was married to a Sparty (who I later wisely booted). When Woodson made the interception, she grabbed my M hat and threw it like a frisbee over the rail and down into the student section.
Sparty fans were total dicks to me every time I went there. Fucking assholes in green.
That is obviously a photoshopped picture of their stadium. All the trash has been removed.
Fuck michigan agricultural college!!!!
Win or lose this is the begging of the end for MSU. 1) I don't see them holding on to Pat Narduzzi 2) They join the east side of the conference, they will have to play us, OSU and Penn St every year. 3) their cross over games next year, are NU, and Wisconsin. 4) OOC schedule is ND and I may be wrong here but don't they open up with Oregon? 5) yes I know you still have to play the game but they are not keeping up in recruiting with OSU, Michigan and PSU.
Edit: they don't have Wisconsin they have Purdue.
Slight difference there
Purdue is ROLLING OVER Ohio right now. Oh wait, they are rolling over FOR Ohio. Slight difference there!
Recruiting doesn't not matter to them, only in reality, it DOES matter for a program and there is no way they will be able to compete for a conference title with the new alignment. I am 100% sure that they will never win a conference title again, not with having to get through Ohio and M every year.
Go Blue. Beat State.
Fuck State and anybody that love 'em
It's 8:30 pm in Hawaii. ESPN GameDay starts at 3:30 am. Not sure I can make it.
That's rough. You'll just have to console yourself by going outside and realizing you live in paradise.
lulz...like Tyrone said...we kind of don't feel too bad for ya!
Go Blue! I know, though, it does have to be pretty hard for those in way different time zones to catch live action in the lower 48.
So the game starts 930 am local on a Saturday. What's so bad about that?
Surprised your account still exists after your spontaneous combustion last night.
Can't sleep, I'm just too excited to watch Michigan walk out of spartan stadium with their 2nd straight win over staee. Go Blue!!
Is everybody in? Is everybody innnnnnn?
Is everybody in? Is everybody in? Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin. The entertainment for this evening is not new, you've seen this entertainment through and through you have seen your birth, your life, your death....you may recall all the rest. Did you have a good world when you died? -enough to base a movie on??
Mow 'em down!
First and foremost, I will say that modding this board while loaded with cold meds today could be an intriguing experience regardless of the outcome of the game.
As for the outcome of the game, I think Paul Bunyan has much more fun in Ann Arbor and should remain down here. Go Blue, fellow Wolverines.
in the Sears Tower after they added the glass boxes over the edge of the skydeck I had taken way too much Robotussin. Just go with it, man. I'll be there in case you ban someone with a scary avatar or end up asleep at the wheel, no worries.
(sympathy stomach churn)
Just win! Don't care how it happens
Kick some ass. It's game day, you've waited two weeks for this. You've had to hear how state is so good, and how their defense is the best in the nation. You've had to hear how their offense has improved. Remember what tom brady told you, "it's up to YOU!....you're the ones who are lucky enough to play for MICHIGAN!" Now go out there and play for MICHIGAN! Show those sons of bitches who they are messing with. GO BLUE!
I've digested every stat, looked at every angle, played out various situations over the past two weeks. I've went from feeling supremely confident to pessimistic and back again. I became burnt out over the past two days and actually turned off any game talk I heard on the radio. It's gameday finally.
Could be a defining game in Hoke's career, maybe?
Hell yeah!! GO BLUE!!
I agree that this could be a defining game for Hoke. I don't agree with the crowd that says "this is just one game". This is way more than that.
Collect bodies. Split heads.
If M loses, it will ruin my day. If we beat Ohio though, I won't even think twice about the loss to MSU.
Yeah, conventional wisdom would have to pick MSU. They have the stronger defense, they have the experience, and they are playing at home. We have the talent edge, but our talent is young, inexperienced, and doesn't have a good track record on the road. We have the potential to win, but we have win the turnover margin, play sound special teams, and be able to handle the blitz. I'm not sure we are up to that challenge unless the coaches really have these guys read for it, which hasn't happened to often yet. We can win, but I'm not sure we will. We may have to wait a couple more wins before we're ready to beat State on the road...man that's hard to admit.
To agree, why do I think this game will be different though? Why do I think that we will all of a sudden have an answer for their defense? I'm just hoping for a special performance from our team, it's just a gut feeling, I still have some feelings of disappointment for some reason...I just hope we look prepared, and have success, and don't turn the ball over. I think the first play we should go play action and throw it deep, right away.
I've had that feeling a lot in the past 3-5 years. But, more often than not that hope is crushed by terrible mind-numbing performances. Don't get me wrong, we are the better team, and win this game if played at home. But, on the road is a whole different story and until proven otherwise we simply don't beat good teams on the road. I'll believe when I see it...like a few times in a row.
Today IS that day! (I don't know if I fully believe in this.)
Dude, it's a college football rivalry game. Crazy things tend to happen and Michigan actually matches up well against MSU. If the defense can stop the run and handle their receivers (I think they can) then UM should be in pretty good shape.
The crazy things that happen in this game always seem to favor State. Would be nice to see that change.
Well sure if our defense shuts down their offense we will win. But, the same goes for them. I disagree that we match up well. What are our strengths? Throwing the football and scrambling with Gardner. MSU has the DBs to match up with our strength at reciever. And, MSU has a good run defense. Also our QB has shown a propensity to turn the ball over on the road. To me all those give MSU the matchup edge. MSU doesn't really do much well on offense so it seems likely we can keep them from scoring too much. But, if our offense turns the ball over and/or their defense shuts us down it will be pretty hard to win. I think to win we have to win the turnover margin and special teams, two things we don't typically do that well. To me they matchup better against us than we do against them.
The misspelled graffiti was a funny incident, but we don't need to venture into 100% derogatory nickname status. That's how fourth graders talk about their rivals, or posters at RCMB who refuse to discuss us as anything but "scUM". We're better than that.
that was legendary! A drunk Sparty who vandalizes and can't spell 'State'! Sorry, that one lives on forever in my book, lol!
There comes a time when you simply rise up and become what you said you were going to be. Now is that time. Go Blue!
I hate those guys so so much.
I can't get the image to post but after the 2010 game somebody spray painted "StaEE" on the side of a car, only afterwards noticing the error and making the first E kinda look like a T...
worried about the weather. Passing might be difficult if it is a steady rainfall. Devin is going to have to do it with his legs. Go Blue!
I'm 54 and I dont think I can ever remember a MSU game where THEY were overconfident (RR years excluded) so this might be a first. And try as I might I cant see why they shouldn't be. Doesnt mean we cant win of course but I sure have a hard time seeing it happening....
leading up to the MSU game since I arrived in A2 in '71. Maybe I'm just blanking things out, but I don't think the attitudes were this negative during the RR years.
Until Hoke can take his team on the road and beat a team with a pulse, that pessimism is justified, unfortunately
before and early in the season. But, since the ND game, it's become obvious the rest of this season is going to be a struggle. In today's game, the only real chance we have is to not commit turnovers and get a few big passing plays on them. Devin has to have a great game, no question. Anything less will be not good for us. But winning today will be a great sign that Hoke may have turned the corner on the road game malaise.
If we don't turn the ball over in our own end we should be able to win this game 6-3. Contrary to what the whole world seems to think after last week their offense is still bad and our defense is still not bad. This is the first offense we've played all year that actually plays into our hands by foregoing the spread trend.
I think the pessimism is the product of a large chunk of the fan base thinking Michigan was "back" in 2011, and the overcompensating for frustration with not yet having the elite program we thought we saw in 2011 by going toward the opposite pole last year and going out to that pole this year when there is a perception things may not have improved.
This isn't to say that there aren't many things to criticize about the staff and players, but that may be why some of the over-the-top rhetoric has been out.
But I think the greater reason for the pessimism right now is the suspicion/fear that the Akron, UConn, and PSU games revealed the true nature of this team, for both coaches and players. Our offensive and defensive lines get shoved around at the line of scrimmage, our special teams aren't very special, and we turn the ball over far too often. That's not a winning formula at any level, especially when playing good teams on the road.
I certainly agree that those are all legitimate areas of criticism, but the fan base would probably have at least a bigger portion preaching patience and "cupboard was bare" if Hoke hadn't have won 11 (including a BCS bowl) and beat Ohio in 2011.
4 wins out of the last 5 games for the Spartans, the best stretch for them since the 60's. Can't say I disagree with how either side is feeling...
I've never really seen the resemblance.
Bastard step brother.
Leave the dead Spartan bodies, take the victory.
Aflac Aflac Aflac Aflac....
Aflac Aflac Aflac Aflac
According to the game I played on NCAA 14 last night, Michigan should win this game 70-0 and only give up 64 offensive yards.
Closer than the experts think?
On par, anyway...
Closer than his wife would like
Sorry, I don't get it..
I think its time to take it off varsity
If our offense out scores their defense by 14 we win!
I checked the sparty ticket website last night and could have aquired two seats in the lower level row 65 for $166 dollars. This is a HUGE game and tickets are face value? I went in 2011 and a drunk RCMB walked past three male Michigan fans, myself and when he got to my high school son he grabbed his arm and asked him if he was a walmart wolverine, and it did not get any better the rest of the afternoon. No thanks on the face value tickets.
Year? I remember someone have the same if not similar story!!! I hate sparty go blue
I mentioned that before. I was 17...not a great day.
Again. I went to the game when Plaxico blew up in '99 and had full cans of beer thrown at me on the way back to the car. No thanks
Way to keep it classy, Walmart.
Guess the OP didn't get Bolivianed for dropping a gay slur in his most mlive post yet the other day...
But the OP is a little way over the top
I emailed it to Brady Hoke. He'll probably use this as his pre-game speech and now we're assured to win
Staee- negative 47.
my week was stressful enough, now I gotta be stressed out all day again hoping we beat these clowns. Go Blue I suppose
You suppose?! C'mon, man up homie! Don't worry we're here to pick you up. You may be down but it'll just make for an even more glorious evening when we pull this out this evening. GO BLUE.
I have been debating with my dad all week what provides better sparty schaudenfruede, a 2-0 nothing michigan win or a 42-14 blow out. While I think it would be better with the win by a safety I am not sure my heart could take that game. So blow out it is!
Nah I think it would be better with the blowout because it would mean they still are not on our level and they would be headhunting in their own program. It would give such joyous bragging rights because they couldn't argue it. 2-0 they blame it on the refs.
AHHH LET'S GO!!! LET'S DO THIS! BEAT THOSE THUGS TO THE GROUND! GO BLUE!!
alcohol may have been a factor
My MSU buddy just texted me: "Game day, bitch! 24-hour rule in effect -- you are shunned!" LOL
Fuck him and FYS
So the 24 hours begins about 5 hours before kickoff?
Someone better post the gif of Pinkman driving away in the final episode if Michigan wins. Because that would sum up exactly how I'll feel.
Well, I made a mistake and ventured over to The Only Colors, and wow, it's beyond mind-blowing how delusional and narrow-sighted many of the posters over there are. I mean, anyone with any level of knowlege and critical reasoning can see just how insane some of the statements and claims they make are. I guess it's hard for me to understand with my worldview how people like that exist, who only see and find what they're looking for to confirm their view of the world around them. As the great Chaz Michael-Michaels says, "it's mind bottling."
Of course UM has many fans like that too, so, glass houses and all I guess.
I've noticed the same thing from many of their fans. They're so cocksure of a W, even to the point some are convinced it will be a blowout victory. The saner of their fans get drowned out, at least on the message boards.
Btw, great avatar!
is that they did, in fact, blow us out.
Just checked Sparty's ticket site and found singles in sect 125 for face value $86 with the will call surcharge.
YEAH BABY !! GO BLUE!! HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
well, it works until the first snap. then expectations are high once again. and what is wrong with that? I'm IN!
I have been surprised by Gardner's turnover problems. He's too bright and too talented for those to be his defining performances and this afternoon he'll have the opportunity to shed that identity. Here's the thing...even in his mistake plagued games he's not hung his head, he battles back. DG will get it done today.
Countess and Ryan make the defense theirs today.
Two weeks to prepare. Time to get it done.
Hope to see the offense go up tempo this game! Unlikely based on this season so far but a man can hope!
I'd like to see us go uptemto directly following any big play, meaning, anything over 10 yds we immediately go "nascar" and go for a knockout punch... or something like that. I haven't exactly thought it through all the way.
Izzo too who will no doubt have his sorry ass planted on the sideline taunting like an adolescent.
starting the "fuck" count early this game I see.
Having a bye week last week could not have come at a better time. The boys are rested, and they're ready to kick some ass.
It's about time we beat Sparty on their home turf. Long overdue. No better way to crush a program and remind them of their place then to beat them on their own home field.
If you want your broadcast to be heavily biased and are tired of lisitening to Brad Nessler check out the WCBN Sports Broadcast HERE
Beat The Warden
Beat the cons
May fate grant us Muppets, and Spartan tears this evening.
I cant take the suspense anymore....31-20 UM.
