Beat State Appreciation Thread

Submitted by bj dickey on

Before many of you were born, I took the field in 1979 with Roosy and AC in East Lansing. We led the Meeeeechigan football team to a victory under the gray and gloomy skies surrounding tha MAC stack just beyond the edge of the stadium. Perhaps some of you listened to my heroics and my 70 yard screen pass during last week's broadcast.

Every week I see and hear the skeptics and the doubters. Ye of little faith, take heed: you underestimate the heart and soul, the passion and toughness of this Meeeechigan football team.

All together, in the spirit of the Legendary Coach, and as a team, The Team, THE TEAM, these 100 players, these coaches, with the help of our students, our alumni, and our fans can will Team 135 to a win on Saturday evening.

Take Hart that pulling together we will watch 80,000 once second-rate students watch in disbelief as little brother resumes his rightful place to Meeechigan in football, as with all things not called a veterinarian.

Soaring above defenders in the likeness of his number-sake on a similar evening only a decade ago, Devin Funchess will pull down scoring passes over the heads of his defenders to put Meeechigan in the lead.

Thundering through the line like the Doak Walker winner of 'aught-three with his half a hundred carries, Deveon and Justice will pound and bruise the defense into submission.

At once the band will break into the greatest fight song ever sung.

Each Meeechigan fan will sing the Victors for Team 135, who will prove themselves the Leaders and Best on this Saturday.

Erupting like burning furniture, the banks of the Red Cedar will overflow with spartan tears through the night.

GO BLUE!

If you are John Wangler thanks for everything and hope Jack has a great career.

If you're not whatever it's a nice sentiment.

So if you're really John Wangler and Brown Bear is really Steve Everitt we've got some really good company on this board.

No worries. It was a big QB battle between the two that year and Wangs was considered the starter by the end of the year. MSU was Dickeys W though. And if this is Dickey, which it seems possible given all the historical angles in the OP, I think kids/fans on this site could get some insight into what its actually like to play for a Michigan team and how important smart positive fans are in willing a team to victory.

I'm a firm believer in admitting my ignorance (and trust me, I get plenty of opportunity.) So, could someone please explain the term “Staee” to me? I've seen it many times (including in this thread), and I understand it's a pejorative term for MSU. But what does it mean, exactly?

Many thanks … and if you could explain “tacopants” to me as well, that would be much appreciated. (I figured out “GERG” on my own. That was a proud day.)

writes a post with some historical references in it that any fan from back then could have written and some people actually that it's really Brian J. Dickey?

Now that's simply championship-class gullibility. You must have had a great week of practice.

I got a feeling somehow they keep it close, course I thought we'd win 10 just over a month ago. Maybe this is the week the defense finally causes turnovers and cook is off, small chance, but that's why they play the games!

I was at that game with my roommates. Was great to be a Wolverine that day. To the Victors go the spoils. Never left East Lansing that night, waking up next day in a sorority house annex after an apparently great party. Wish I could remember that part....GO BLUE!!!!

Michigan in a few days we will find out if there is some life in maize and blue football. Each player must play his best, while coaching staff MUST be quick to make change when needed...HAIL!

it was actually something like--  Y Streak-Go Route.  To the TE.

Eye-set.  Dive Fake.  Y Streak-Go.  Against Cover-3 and the FS, I guess.

Ha--  I cant Believe I Remember this.  It was a Brilliant Call by Bo.  Score might have been 14-7 at that point.  And the ball kinda bounced around or something with the FS.

Ha . . .  this is great  . . .  GET The Video-tape  . . .

63-0. We are going to get hammered! State will not overlook us and they want to kill us. Sad to say I think their team, their students, their fans, want it more than us. Yet, I will still stand tall and take the punishment because I do wNt this win as badly as they do. I don't care if it gives hoke hope or time. This is michigan, my michigan, and I want us to win every time we step on the field, the court, the pitch, or in the office. God, I hope I'm wrong.

-I have been too optimistic each year since 2007

-I am almost always wrong

-but, given that people on this blog are trying to pretend there is no game on Saturday because of the monstrous beatdown we all expect, it has come to my attention that there is only one realistic outcome: victory.  That is my prediction.

this one is Coming Back To Me too  . . .

R-Leach FIRST-Yr as QB.  THIS game was a BIG Deal.  Lead game for ABC that day, back in the day of Limited CFB coverage.

MSU had made Quite A Name for itself from 1974, and its FANTASTIC Upset of No-1 OSU for that year.  And MICHIGAN was coming-off the D-Franklin years.

TOUGH-Narrow game.  Gordon Bell as TB.  Gawddd--  The Memories  . . .

And Schembechler Toughs-Grinds It Out.  And WINS--  16-06  . . .
