Bears drop Chester Taylor

Submitted by Chi-Blue on

Whats the opinion of the board??

I would like for the Lions to go after Taylor. He would be a great 1, 2 punch with Best. He runs with power, picks up the blitz well, and is great catching the ball out of the backfield, not to mention has been good in Special teams. Seems to be a no brainer with us needing some help there.

He has been a solid back in the NFL, but how old is he?  I would be afraid he is a little passed his prime.  Especially considering the lifespan of most NFL running back careers.

He may be old, passed his prime etc, BUT is he better than what the Lions have past Jahvid Best (i.e. Maurice Morris and that Harrison guy). I'd say yes though I keep hearing about the Packers considering dropping Grant.

Jahvid Best had two concussions late in college and just picked up another one in the last preseason game. That guy probably isn't going to last long in the NFL.

He made very little impact for the Bears last year when subbing in for Forte and with the Bears signing of Barber it was figured if Barber had a stronger preseason that this could happen.  This wasn't a surprise move. Not sure what type of gas he still has in the tank at this point.

Kind of a Roy Williams situation with the Bears. We bring him in really cheap and give him a chance to find his ah hum . . . third wind. Doesnt work thwn let him go! I think he's got to be a better option than Ian Johnson, and Bell.

Best, Taylor, Brown in our backfield not too bad.

didn't he have a pretty big contract? could this be more of a cap move? seems like they could of atleast gotten a pick for him if he was somewhat cheap?

although just read on Prideofdetroit: UPDATE: Despite Bears head coach Lovie Smith telling Taylor he was released this morning, the team just called his agent to tell him that Taylor hasn't been released. Odd.

maybe they got a bite for a trade?

You have to believe the Lions are waiting to pounce on the best RB waived in the league's final round of cuts. The two backs they've brought in so far have "stopgap" written all over them. A couple solid RBs are bound to get cut in the next week or so -- always happens, usually with older backs. The Lions are in good position to pick-up a good one-year rental.

He has not been cut.  There was a misunderstanding between him and Lovie.  He had assumed he was cut after not playing the other night.  He had a meeting with Lovie this morning where he was informed he had not been cut you.  Lovie would not comment if he would remain a member of the bears after they make some cuts on Wed or Thurs.
