600 comments is probably a bit much heading into the half. Scrolling up to the top to refresh is just crazy now, and will be miserable if this gets anywhere near Outback Bowl thread territory.
Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Kelly sounded absolutely lost during his halftime interview, seems pretty apropriate
He seemed in awe of Alabama. Kinda like how we sounded after losing to Alabama.
Never heard a coach say that before. It's the Natl. Championship game have some comments ready you moron.
Someone text Desmond to punch Meyer in the sack.
BAHAHAHAHAHA. Thank you so much for that last comment. It made my night. Even more than annoying all my family that are ND fans.
like a concession speech
What did he say? I went to the bathroom.
you should have held it in...
I thought he gave a frank assessment of exactly what happened in the first half, giving AL its due
Anyone really surprised by the score???
Delusion is a powerful thing
Given how we played against each team. Very nice avatar by the way.
I'm surprised. I assume you are not. So how much did you bet on the game...
at this rate. . . the illiad and odyssey of all-time ass-whippings, no?
Can we be sure this game wasn't played in 1650? Just asking.
Games Over, everyone go to bed.
Maybe 41...but not 14!
ND is down by more at halftime than we were at the end of the game.
4 weeks is way too much time for Nick Saban to prepare for a game. ND just doesn't have the talent to overcome it.
That said, there's also a huge talent differential in this game. The two areas that have struck me are that Alabama has a much better offensive line and secondary than ND does. Alabama has been getting 5+ yards of push on most runs and have had a receiver open downfield on just about every pass.
That's what happens when you can recruit without a salary cap.
but watching ND getting thrashed has been way too entertaining. Hope they get shut out!
Same here. This is awesome
Maybe Alabama doesnt show for the 2nd half. LOLZ Kelly you are a delight
this should be re-named "how many more times can we see AJ McCarron's girlfriend" open thread
Has she posed for Playboy yet?
I dunno, but she's posed for creepy musburger a shit ton already tonight.
...whether she knows it or not.
Well here's the video. Here's Brent's commentary, in all its lecherous glory
Is this a fresh start? or does ND still suck and Tide still Roll in this thread too...
I just saw Teo miss a tackle on the way into the locker room.
Tape a cheetah to Golson's back
Thought a lot about that one haven't you?
It would only represent a slight increase on the number of things trying to rip his head off.
Bout all you need to know.
That somehow doesn't seem right...
Super sweet hair-do
Is straight out of the 60's.
Ordering pizza, had a smoke, paid the buckeye for the pizza, handed off to eddie who jazz danced into the endzone from his own 1 yard line.... That sum it up?
You didn't mention blowing a kiss to Miss Alabama.
is about to be my facebook status, after I create an account...
Kelly, Saban, and now I have to listen to Urban Meyer? Can this game be any worse?
One quick meteor would clean things up nicely.
How will we ever top the record for most posts ever if we create new threads at halftime?!?!
THEN WE MUST POST MORE PER UNIT TIME.
run checkdowns. Send three out and have a RB out on a flare pass. Get it to the RB.
I can see why Howard is an "analyst" and not a coach.
To be fair to Mr. Howard, I belive his major was makin' ND look silly
You may also belive my major is not spelling, and you would be correct
Lets be honest, most any strategy is probably useless against Bama at this point.
Who invited Urban Meyer to Miami?
Not like he had a bowl game to coach...
Now be prepared for Ohio fans to call for them being in the CG. As if they would stand any more of a chance...
Come on, I'm sure a defense that allowed 49 points to Indiana would be doing just fine against Alabama.
This may have been said earlier, but does anyone else think it's weird when current coaches come in for commentary on games?
"Our kids need to understand that we have to play a full 60 minutes of football."
Translation: There will be blood. Oh yes, there will be blood.
That must be the big giant gas bomb the Irish just laid in the first half.
Haha! ND band laying theme from back to the future. Yes, only time travel will return ND to glory.
Kelly on the lack of big plays on first down: "Play calling was fine, the players didn't execute"
They didn't manage to fumble a single snap in the first half - probably time to put in Tommy Rees.
Dez and Urbz are saying totally opposite things. Cool!
...and different sort of evening is unfolding...
But I think we all know where he was headed with it, though.
What a joke.
How many more days til Michigan football?
It's a farce of sorts (st. nicks hospital et. al.) you look at the last four teams and they just whoop people's asses...
I don't know what to say, except man we have a long way to go...
Waiting for Urban Meyer to say, 'This is why I got my sorry ass out of Gainesville.'
A more fitting response to the gators laying an egg against Louisville
The SEC has an "academic initiative"?
But they can't spell it.
That Lou Holtz provide color commentary for the 2nd half?
I cannot wait to see what Mark May does to that senile old bastard.
After watching Bama, I'm thinking Johnny Football was jipped. He should have won the first ever Double Heisman.
I'm surprised Kelly didn't mention how much he looks forward to working with Alabama's players as head coach of the Cleveland Browns during that halftime interview.
And the Outback bowl thread was epic. But better we don't match that in a game about Notre Dame on a Michigan blog.
They wish. The only chance they have is to pull the Delorean around and hit 88.8 mph. Though I don't think they have enough gigiwatts.
Teo still misses like a 5 star.
Des would ask Urb if he was glad he wasn't playing Alabama...
By sitting there, he's reminding everyone that with all his success, he can't hold a candle to Saban; and that his sorry team is banned from the postseason so -- hey look! -- he's available.
Kelly not gonna make a QB change? Why not go with ole Tommy?
Come on Bama, foot on the gas
Does everyone remember when we had a chance at Clinton-Dix? Ughhhhh
No we never really did
Having gone to Dallas this year I can tell the ND fans in attendance that the worst is yet to come. The drive back to your hotel from the stadium will seem like it takes about 17 hours. You won't be in the mood to eat anything and you'll have to fly home tomorrow. Then you'll have to take shit at the airport from all the people in Alabama colors (they'll actually be nice but condinsending) and then fly home all the while calculating how much you just spent to watch your team get crushed in person.
Yeah and to think they payed even more than you did!
The drive in Dallas did take 17 hours.
Having to hear "ROLL TIDE" 4,000 times on the way out of the stadium. Ugh.
Hell of an interception
Lacy is incredible.
Or is he just a big ND hater?
Dude looks like a man..
I suppose. Shutout preserved!!!
I love how honest Herbstreit is being. Just attacking Notre Dame's game plan. This went even better than I imagined.
The B1G can just hang our hats on being a basketball conference and stop trying to compete with the SEC in football? Hahahahaha.
Go join an SEC blog Mr. Bandwagon.
If Trent Richardson was the #3 pick in the draft....Eddie Lacy is a top 10 pick. He is impressive.
The freshman Yeldon might be better? How sick is that?
This game is showing what we lack to be elite: A+ backs, and great corners. Well, you know, assuming the players we've recruited develop like expected.
Games are won in the trenches
What once was a fearsome front four for nd is looking like a jv squad tonight. Unbelievable.
Yeah, but we've recruited the OL. No reason they shouldn't be one of the best in the nation in 2-3 years. DL has the talent except for an explosive pass rusher. We need an RB or two that can make individual plays to take it to the next level.
Brian Kelly is drunk. WTF is he doing trying to beat Milliner?
That's an ACL for Nix I'd bet. Trying to stop quick like that at 350 lbs. is pretty tough.
Looks like a knee issue.
Son, do what Steve Miller says and take the money and run.
Why do I think Saban is NOT going pull off the dogs until the score is at least 49 to 0. Me thinks he's making a statement.
And then he'll go for two.
Young O-linemen are watching this Bama line closely.
Bama O-line is insane!
Bama running are beasts!
Should be running backs. Damn phone.
The happiest person in America right now....Mark May.
It's the other 117 D-1 coaches
The best part about this is that ND is exposed . . . they won't be an automatic pick for the 4-team playoff just because they have a good year.
If money didn't control the NCAA championship / playoff, you might be correct. I fear that the media frenzy over ND this year will only cement ND as a lock if they are halfway decent each year.
dude, we lost five fucking games, they lost one... you just sound silly...
Notre dame is a good team. Bama is a great team.
its that simple.
damn. my bad.
Saban will not call off the dogs.
I want 56-0
I hope they score 60.
Love it, love it, love it!!!!!!!!!
Oh dear Notre Dame....oh dear.
It's more beautiful than I imagined...
ND can't stop it. Bob Diaco is coaching like SpongeBob Squarepants.
One more TD . . .
It's kinda nice for the whole country to finally see just how lucky the Irish were this season. Kinda hard to understand how so many people really gave them a chance seeing as how this is the same team that basically lost to Pitt
I almost can't watch this anymore. Almost being the key word
To Hell with Notre Dame
This is really, really bad for college football.
Maybe. But it's wonderful for everybody who hates Notre Dame.
This is status quo for college football.
Only reasons to watch this game now:
1) Best dejected ND fan shot
2) Miss Alabama
5 FG's last year.....5extra points this year
Holy crap...the imperial march just went through my head.
There is no such thing as running up the score tonight, Saban. Pedal to the medal. Do not call off the dogs.
Now I've seen a lot of schadenfreude in my time. But this? This is on another level. The Germans will have to come up with another word.
Now we can focus on recruiting and basketball.
If this is what glory looks like, I don't think ND wants to return there any more.
<------- No relation
thank god ND didn't join the B1G. Don't need that kind of humiliation (again - thanks buckeyes).
With that TD, Alabama has passed the 400 yard mark for total offense in this game. If anyone is interested in this stat, ND has now given up about 150% more yards than their season average.
Notre Dame will not catch up to us for the all time wins % today.
They wouldn't have anyway. If they somehow win this game they will still be just short.
Who else is going to bask in the Irish tears on their message boards??
That the ND grad spent all that money to make the tickets to the NC game affordable to ND students, so they could feel the pain up close and personal? As one of the wounded in Dallas, I can say it is much worse on the road.
Apple + R or F5 to refresh without scrolling all the way to the top.
Or the refresh button on your browser without scrolling to the top.
Nick Saban...2nd best coach ever? :(
you are talking about active head coaches right?
No...ever. He's tied with Woody and only Bear Bryant and Yost have more national titles. Who could you possible say is better than Saban right now?
There isn't anything left to comment on. This is a massacre, and I feel terrible for those kids in blue and gold. They're out there willing to leave it all on the field, and they have no way of matching up physically or schematically. Continuing the commentary is in poor taste at this point. If ND goes on a 21-0 run, bring the comments back. But this is embarrassing to run up so many comments on a rout that's not even our team.
Do you feel this bad every time a football team is down 35-0, or just when it's Notre Dame?
Did your heart bleed for UMass this season?
You must be joking
This is pretty funny to read:
I think the odds of Kelly heading to the Bears are going up. When the ND fans start to claim that Gholson is only a freshmen and he'll improve remember what happended to Garron Gilbert. Favourite line of the night so far was Musberger saying if this were a prize fight they'd call it. Remember how everyone said if Boise or on of the other BCS busters got to the title game and gat hammered that would be their last shot? The same should go for ND.
A&M also has a 1st round pick at LT
Saban needs to start going for two.
I never got to see that Texas A&M/Alabama game, unfortunately. I was on my way back from Ann Arbor after that overtime game against Northwestern.
Looks like the refs are trying to help ND score at least one TD.
he literally only touched him..
Ugh, gift from the refs. Whatever, they're not going to save you today ND.
I swear ive seen this game before
Damn it. I wanted a shutout
The echos have returned! Huzzah!
But seriously it shows u the power of the SEC. I cant stand that bullshit but its true they are far ahead of the rest. Meanwhile the BIG counters by adding Rutgers and Maryland
You do remember Clemson beatin LSU and Louisville stomping Florida right? Not that far a head.
And hell, an 8-4 Michigan taking USC to the wire.
Funny, because I remember LSU losing, Florida getting manhandled, and we were a sack away from beating South Carolina.
This just goes to show how far ahead Alabama is
is that Rutgers and Maryland < Texas A&M and Missouri. Say it isn't so.
Thanks for the points back
Goddamnit. Seriously though, did that roughing call seem like a complete pity call to anyone else?
If the head ref picks up the phone I'm sure it'll be the programming director from ESPN calling to say "thank you".
Oh well. A couple generous calls from the refs to give ND the touchdown.
Winner of the internet > RT @KateUpton: It's okay Notre Dame this happened to the Jets every week
the key play of the drive was a gift to the irish. no shutout.
7 pts for the Irish. The return to glory has begun again.
Next year will be the year!
there's very little audience left. Anyone without strong interest that didn't turn the channel at halftime left when it went 35-0.
My favorite is the heat Musberger is taking on twitter after commenting on McCarrons girlfriend. lmao
So we watch full set of commercials to see a kick off then back to full set of commercials. GG
Awesome tweet by Kate Upton
almost equally certainly not a top 5 team
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnddd here come the referees to help Notre Dame save face!
I didn't see a hold there. If the refs wanted to control the game, they should have done it from the start.
Michigan football's place in the universe. I'm glad we've been recruiting well of late because we're going to need it.
Whole 'nother level: Alabama
Higher level: LSU, Oregon
Probably higher level: Ohio
'Old school programs that should be on the higher level; won't take much for them to return: USC, Texas, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame
Plethora of other 'new school' programs that have sniffed the higher level: Texas A&M, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Stanford, South Carolina
Other stuff/who knows/recently good (in BCS): Virginia Tech, Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, Wisconsin, Louisville, Clemson, West Virginia
And I haven't even mentioned Penn State and Nebraska.
...where does Michigan land in all of this? Where are we headed?
We BELONG alongside Ohio. We should at least be lumped in with the Old School programs that are always "there." But unfortunately we're probably in the "other stuff" category thanks to the 2011 BCS win (so it could be worse). But there are over a dozen programs with comparable recent recruiting histories standing between us and being top-five elite.
I love the direction Hoke has the program headed in. I believe our coaching and recruiting will leapfrog us over everyone, into the "higher level." I envision Michigan, Ohio, ND, LSU, Stanford and Oregon being the "group of five" challengers to Alabama. I wouldn't be surprised to see this group occupy the BCS' new "Football Four" for the foreseeable future.
I'm not sure I'd include Oregon in there until after the NCAA investigation
Ya but what about STAEE?
Even ND + the Refs can't stop Alabama.
pull the starters after this drive?
I want to see their faces pounded into a jelly!
This is just too perfect. Love It's Always Sunny, love that episode. Well done.
#55 on ND just assaulting bitches
Flight from South Bend to Miami: $786
Ticket to Game on Stubhub: $870
5* hotel near Stadium for 2 nights: $1,026
Look on Notre Dame fans faces in stands? Priceless.
Brian Kelly's gameplan is just murdering his team tonight
I wonder if he is the one that said, "Keep throwing at that weak link Milliner."
#6 on ND just bounced off lacy like a pinball on that last drive
I feel like a common theme whenever I watch Bama is always "that opposing defense is really starting to wear down" around the 4th quarter.
McCarron. QB 4
Yeldon. RB 5
Lacy. RB 4
Cooper. WR 4
Norwood. WR 4
Williams. TE. 4
Fluker. T 5
Warmack. G. 3
Jones. C. 4
Steen. G. 3
Kouandjio. T. 5
The recruits span from 5 yr guys to two true frosh so 5 years of classes with 2-3 per year.
My point: it will take several years of premium recruiting and solid development for us to return to elite status.
Who didn't see this coming? What was the 'Bama-UM score after 3?
ours was better.
Sorry, I blocked that game out of my memory.
Gotta hand it to Alabama, their OL is really in tune and well coached. They rarely miss a block and even when they do, they don't miss a beat finding the next relevant guy to block. Compared to our line where there are two to three OL looking around blocking air at the end of most run plays.
Lacy and Yeldon do a great job of making the first tackler miss.
"Maybe Alabama won't come out" - Your AP 2012 Coach of The Year
The person hating this game more than anybody has to be Teo. His draft stock is moving down with each missed tackle. My guess is that he won't be #2 on Mel's Big Board tomorrow morning.
Was he ever #2 on the "big board?"
EDIT: I just checked and he is. I guess he will move down now after this game.
He is right now.
He did not move down any board. The NFL does not judge guys on one game. They look at all of their games.
to hope for a player to crash into Saban and erase his memory....?
I can haz FreekBass?
I'm so glad ND has been exposed as pretenders. I expected it to happen much earlier in the year.
That we remember the true struggle of Michigan football before Hoke and appreciate the rise back to prominence.
Saban is taking a pay cut to coach the BCS championship game.
McCarron to Cooper is going to be deadly next year
Cooper sure has short arms on deep balls. For everything else Bama has going for it he doesnt like laying out for passes.
Oh.....and how in the hell did Alabama lose a game this year?
to be honest im almost ok with ND being exposed as pretenders on the national stage like this. I mean, this is fantastic. Crap, I look away from the TV for 1 min and miss another 3 missed ND tackles
And THAT is what an A/A+ back will get you
Hey Syracuse. Really? You have interest in the ND defensive coordinator? Are you watching this game?
C'mon Bama. You got time to break 50 points
Brian Kelly is going to need a hug later.
Or he could take out his frustration on his video coordinator
Yes! Fuck you again, Notre Dame.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm still disappointed it's not 48-0 right now.
Sweet... I will not lie, I am enjoying this immensely.
CRUSH THEM! FOR KROM!
To crush your enemies, see them driven before you... and to hear the lamentation of their women!
McCarron is hardly just a "game manager".
This game has changed my opinion on McCarron.
They've now given up more points than we did.
Our D only gave up 34 points - we threw a pick six. And we threw another INT that was returned inside our 20, setting up another Bama score. ND's defense is getting abused considerably more severely.
Someone report Bob Stoops for committing a recruiting violation in the AT&T commercial.
That I am thankful for Nick Saban's evilness.
"What a road kill"
I LOVE it.
Yes. Finally Musberger says something I like. ND = road kill
With that TD, Alabama is now literally responsible for about 70% of the total offense in this game to this point (502 of 735 total yards). It doesn't seem like "Roll Tide" is fitting in this game, but more like "Roll Tsunami".
Most lopsided BCS titles games:
1999: Virginia Tech loses to Florida State by 17.
2001: Nebraska loses to Miami by 23.
2006: Ohio State loses to Florida by 27.
2011: LSU loses to Alabama by 21.
It was nice having the Buckeyes hold the title for worst loss but I don't mind them passing the baton to Notre Dame.
I know it was vacated but still...
Vacated. That's what happens when you buy players.
With what Mark Dantonio is doing up in EL, it won't be too long until MSU gets the baton.
Assuming MSU ever makes a BCS game......
USC - 55
Okla - 19
26 pts second worst to O$U beat down.
Edit - 36
ND bloggers blaming the officials
but are they thanking them for their first td?
How are yards basketball stats?
been bailed out some by zebras, and have only turned it over once.
beat Michigan. Go figure.
Irish tears taste the sweetest. Want to see MOAR facepalm!!
Cooper or is it too late? Man, we need a big-time WR to stretch the D for Devin & Shane.
USC was the #1 team coming into this year, how did that work out? Who cares who the top 5 are for next year. Hate him so much.
Yeah all a preseason top 5 means is "none of these teams except one will be here at the end of the year".
It doesn't matter, but we will end up discussing it here on this blog. His colleagues on ESPN will also talk about on air. It is just something to talk about.
"He reminds me of Joe Namath!"
HURR DURR, CUZ HE'S BANGIN' HAWT CHICKS, RIGHT HERBIE!
So does Lou Holtz still say ND is #1 after this game? I'm sure he can think of a reason. I tried to come up with a sarcastic reason and got nothing, but that guy has a BS in BS.
He is helping his draft stock and the one ND guy who physically belongs on the field with Bama.
Put up some resistance. This is pathetic.
Is Lou still alive?
About time for a ND turnover.
Bah. Come on Bama.
Are you not counting USC 55-19 v. Oklahoma in '05? 36 points is what we're looking for here. We're at 35 now with ND driving. COME ON TIIIIIDE!!!
the next time they cut to AJs woman, Johnny football is sitting next to her....
With musberger pulling a photobomb
The best part of this whole game is not ONCE having to see that annoying ass irish leprachuan mascot
Whelp, that sucked.
Can't wait to hear/see Saban after the game look pissed and watch him curse the guys that Gatorade shower him. Looks like ND will match our output of 14 whopping points (though ours were not mercy points like ND's seem to be...bias involved yes, but Michigan's 14 do seem better -whatever the f**k that means when one is playing Alabama).
Was it the Texas game when he got beamed in the head?
Honestly thought it was last year but they were sort of talking about it and make it seem it was a few seasons ago. I'm sure it's happened multiple times and each time he's as pleasant as if it were thrown in his face by a leprechaun.
He's getting hammered by the rest of the board for saying this but I think I just some ND blog material for Brian's collumn next week...
Maybe looking to be ND's next coach by showing goodwill?
NOTRE DAME IS TURNING THE TIDE.
I'm at a crossroads, goto sleep or continue to watch this drubbing? Kelly clapping for that TD, god I hate these domers
I can't imagine the glorious feeling of there being 8 minutes left in the game and no giving a crap because you know you have a national championship all but locked up. I'm sure Alabama fans give zero craps that Notre Dame just scored there because their already getting blasted
ND's OL has gotten away with a few takedowns lately.
chance and throwing a few holding calls on Bama. Mercy reffing.
Threw some very nice balls on that drive. Kids going to be tough
Kids got the arm. Poise? Not so much yet.
