BCS =Bull Crap System or AKA Joke!!
Maybe it's just me...just take a look. The BCS puts teams into the championship game before the season even starts.
Title games in BCS system (Preseason polls rankings)
98-Tenn (#10) vs. FSU (#2)
99-FSU (#1) vs. Virgina Tech (#2)
00-Oklahoma (#19) vs. FSU (#2)
01-Miami (#2) vs. Nebraska (#4)
02-OSU (#6) vs. Miami (#2)
03-LSU (#12) vs. Oklahoma (#2)
04-USC (#1) vs. Oklahoma (#2)
05-Texas (#2) vs. USC (#1)
06-Florida (#8) vs. OSU (#1)
07-LSU (#2) vs. OSU (#10)
08-Florida (#5) vs. Oklahoma (#4)
09-Alabama (#2) vs. Texas (#3)
So in review you must be ranked preseason #1-#10 or you have no chance to play for the national title. Wow, what a system! Let's guess next years national title game.....
Alabama, USC, Florida, OSU, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia Tech....any other thoughts??
January 8th, 2010 at 12:08 AM ^
logic.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:09 AM ^
You think USC is going to be preseason top 10?
January 8th, 2010 at 12:23 AM ^
Preseason polls....recruiting
2009- 3rd (#9)
2008- 4th (#9)
2007- 1st (#2)
2006- 6th (#1)
2005- 1st (#6)
2004- 1st (#1)
2003- 8th (#1)
2002- 20th (#12)
Look for a 9th or 10th preseason ranking....it's USC. Past history says they better be in the top ten or they have a slim chance of playing for the national title.

Correlation does not equal causation friend. I know you didn't understand anything your stats prof said but lets just nip this thread in the butt before you keep posting.

Nip this thread in the bud...
Nipping in the butt sounds pretty gross to me.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
nip it in the bud.
It could be a mute point.

I find your ideas intriguing and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter
January 8th, 2010 at 12:22 AM ^
Good point, but I gotta be that guy to point out Oklahoma was #19. That said yea you better have preseason hype to make it.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:29 AM ^
98-Tenn (12-0) vs. FSU (11-1)
99-FSU (11-0) vs. Virgina Tech (11-0)
00-Oklahoma (12-0) vs. FSU (11-1)
01-Miami (11-0) vs. Nebraska (11-1)
02-OSU (13-0) vs. Miami (12-0)
03-LSU (12-1) vs. Oklahoma (12-1) **USC 11-1**
04-USC (12-0) vs. Oklahoma (12-0) **Auburn 12-0**
05-Texas (12-0) vs. USC (12-0)
06-Florida (12-1) vs. OSU (12-0)
07-LSU (11-2) vs. OSU (11-1) **two loss WVU & Missou lost last games**
08-Florida (12-1) vs. Oklahoma (12-1)
09-Alabama (13-0) vs. Texas (13-0) **Mid-major Boise & TCU undefeated also**
Only in 03 & 04 when there were three equally deserving teams do I think anyone got really screwed.
January 8th, 2010 at 1:02 AM ^
Oregon got hosed in 2001 when Nebraska got killed in the B12 title game and still got to play Miami.
January 8th, 2010 at 9:17 AM ^
I would have replaced 2000 Florida State with one-loss Miami who beat FSU, replace Nebraska with Oregon, and in 2006 replace Florida with Michigan.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:29 AM ^
Now I know what Notre Dame feels like, always playing for nothing!! Not in the top 15 in the preseason poll then you have a 4% chance to play for the national title.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:39 AM ^
What the hell are you talking about? Maybe, just maybe, the folks that make the preseason polls know which teams are going to be better than others.
This isn't a conspiracy. Take the tinfoil hat off.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
In the lower half of the top 25 or even outside of the top 25 won a national championship?
Of all of the things to rail on the BCS about this is one of the worst.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:38 AM ^
So, yes, in 1997 there was a team that did it ;)
January 8th, 2010 at 12:38 AM ^
Crazy...You mean teams that were good the year before...are ranked high in the preseason...then follow it up with another good season? That has to be some type of cheating. Those bitches at the BCS must be stopped.
January 8th, 2010 at 1:19 AM ^
End of regular season records
09:TCU- 12-0 PS=17th Final=3rd
Boise State 12-0 PS:14th Final=6th
Cincinnati 12-0 PS:33rd Final=4th
08:Utah 12-0 PS:29th Final=7th
06:Boise State 12-0 PS:31st Final=9th
04:Auburn 12-0 PS:17th Final=3rd
Boise State 11-0 PS:30th Final=10th
Utah 11-0 PS: NR Final=5th
03:Boise State 11-1 PS:39th Final=18th
02:Boise State 11-1 PS:44th Final=19th
**Just out of reach for all of these schools. none of them have a chance based on preseason rankings. Look at Boise State?? You think they deserve a higher ranking then 14th, takes the preseason polls 8 years to see a connection with success and Boise State. Wow!! 93-11 over the past 8 seasons and they still can't break the top ten...think about it!!
January 8th, 2010 at 1:30 AM ^
Okay, I thought about it. I still think you are wrong and maybe a tool. Of all the issues with the BCS, preseason rankings is nothing to get worked up about.
If you don't like how the BCS leaves the little guys out, say that. If you don't like how the BCS relies to much on human polls, say that. Those are legit issues. Whining about preseason polls isn't going to get you anywhere.
January 8th, 2010 at 6:35 AM ^
I like the BCS, and they got it right again! A team that makes it to the BCS title game is pretty good, so it's only logical that they'd be ranked highly to start the year. The only time where the pollsters were way off was Oklahoma in '00 but the system still corrected itself. Sure, I may want a plus-one, but the BCS is still a good system.
January 8th, 2010 at 9:52 AM ^
So glad you put that AKA in the title. Otherwise I would have been lost.
January 8th, 2010 at 12:16 PM ^
Eveyone has their opinions on the BCS, but this system sets up a hand full of teams to win the title. In reality only 15% of the nation can win the title based on preseason rankings.
What other sports have the same screwed up system?
All other major sports professional or amateur levels allow for teams to have a shot no matter what they are predicted to do in the preseason. Every year we hear Yankees and Mets or Red Sox and Dodgers to play in World Series. Glad that doesn't happen every year.
Go Blue!

The BCS isn't responsible for the problem that you mention. The problem is that in Div IA, there are 120 teams that play only 12 games and there is no way to evaluate them without some subjective criteria. The BCS just ensures that #1 meets #2 in the last game.
January 9th, 2010 at 3:25 AM ^
plus one (the system).
