BBrown: Quick Update With 2015 TE Cole Chewins

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

2015 TE Cole Chewins (Clarkston HS - Clarkston, MI) took in a Michigan practice on Saturday and I was able to exchange some texts with him about it to see how it went.

Chance of an offer:

They said they want to see a couple of games this year and see if I can add some more weight before they make a decision. They said they are looking for me to be 240 lbs. by the time I graduate. (Chewins is 6'7", 210 lbs.)

The visit:

It was great! I talked with Coach Ferrigno and Coach Hecklinski and they would like me to come back out this fall for a game. I also had a chance to talk with Coach Hoke and Coach Borges for a little bit. I really liked practice because it was high intensity and uptempo. I'm looking forward to being back out for a game this fall!

Chewins was really excited about the visit and the possibility of a return visit. The fact that he visited with every important coach as a tight end is a sign that he is a likely candidate to receive an offer. He is built in a very similar mold as 2014 TE commitment Ian Bunting with his long, lean frame. He is definitely one to keep an eye on in the 2015 class as it projects as a very small class.

Wow our TE's over the middle should be hard to handle in the future with all that height and legit outside threats at WR that can stretch the field. Can't wait to see it all come together.

I hope we are recruiting him hard because, until we find a TE recruit who is 7'3" and furry, this will be our best opportunity to have a dedicated Michigan student cheering section dressed fully in Chewbacca costumes.

Means they likely would see him up around 250-260. He could play H-TE or Y-TE at that point, but it seems and would make sense for them to be looking for more of a Y-TE in the '15 class. Wheatley has to be option one there though.

If Borges has a formation without a RB on the field, every MIchigan player on the field would be 6'4" or taller.  The center could be the shortest person on the field.
