BBrown: 2015 WR Christian Kirk to check out Wolverines
2015 WR Christian Kirk has been hearing from the Wolverines for quite some time in a limited capacity but the Arizona native will get a chance to check out the Wolverines in person when the team arrives for bowl week. The coaches have reached out to Kirk and invited him to attend a bowl practice as they prepare for Kansas State.
Kirk is probably a long shot at this point but he does have interest in Michigan. He is an electric athlete in space. While at 5'10" and 175 lbs. he doesn't fit the big receiver mold the coaches have been targeting, people who recently coached Jeremy Gallon can't be down about this kind of talent:
(Gallon-like out route at 2:30. Gallon-like NO DON'T RETURN THAT! at X:XX)

Moar "electric athletes" please

Look at the offers:

The whole "electric ... in space" business suggests that at least one, ahem, coach in his home state will be interested in him.

Agree. ASU will be all over him.

He will probably be a 5 star recruit when all is said and done.

He quite possibly has some growing to do.

Watch his tape on youtube. It's pretty impressive, either he's playing against some low level competition or this kid is blazing fast.

Saguaro is a pretty big high school, and there's quite a bit of talent in the Scottsdale area. Off the top of my head, I think there have been guys like Taylor Lewan, Craig Roh, Brett Hundley, Jalen Brown, Casey Tucker, Andrus Peat, Mark Andrews, and others from that area in the last 5 years or so. It's a pretty talent rich area right around Tempe/Scottsdale.

MaxPreps has a reasonably complete profile on Christian Kirk (HERE). For what it is worth, he is pretty productive - two consecutive years of 1,000 or more reception yards and 29 receiving TDs in that time. Further, in this last season, he also managed 825 rushing yards with 13 rushing TDs, part of his 2,331 all-purpose yards and 30 TDs for his junior year. Not bad at all.

Reaching out to a 2015 WR just recently? sigh...

BB says they've contacted him for quite some time. It's likely picking up steam with George's decommitment and UM's recent bowl location assignment.

at the 1:12 mark. Could this be a new Michigan alternate jersey?..perhaps the Michigan jersey for the bowl game?

if we can pull him in. I'd say it would be almost impossible without the opportunity to see the team in practices there. I'm sure Rich Rod will pull out all stops to get him and ASU will be tough also. Then you have the other elite teams too.

This kid can flat out play. There's a place on ANY offense for these quick, slot receiver-types who can run well in space. I think it's good to have a mix of WR's in any case - not just the big outside guys.

Seems like he'd be perfect in an offense like Oregon's or Arizona's, where he'd be getting the ball in space out on the edges multiple times per game. Not sure a Stanford-style ground and pound like Hoke wants to run would make as much use of him.

He seems better than just a " system player"
December 21st, 2013 at 3:54 PM ^
I would agree, but the question is really whether Michigan's offense would make maximum use of his evident abilities.
December 21st, 2013 at 3:59 PM ^
I would expect and hope that Hoke would use this kid if they did get him on the team. The fact that they are recruiting him shows they have a plan for him.

and the fact that the staff did not shoehorn him into a role as a slot because of his size.
December 21st, 2013 at 3:19 PM ^
Seems like he has great burst of speed once he gets through some traffic and he reads his blocks well too. Not a bad plan B.

If that's legal, of course. Not up on the nuances of recruiting...
December 21st, 2013 at 4:26 PM ^
Not unless they had a previously established relationship.

Pretty impressive film even if it's not against the best of competition. Dude looks super fast if I do say so myself.

How does this work with the dead period?

Looks extremely impressive. Dont give a damn how tall he is, athletes like that will win you games in the B1G.
That said, we do have a big time 2015 WR/ATH in our own state that I hope we put maximum effort/resources into. Thought at one point he was a MSU lean, seems we've made huge strides with Cole lately. If he decides to play offense, will come down to Mich/OSU it sounds like.

If he commits to us, can he be the Captain of the recruiting class?
December 21st, 2013 at 8:47 PM ^
Not to mention he's what 16 ? It's very likely he will push 6ft.
