BBrown: 2015 WR Christian Kirk to check out Wolverines

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

2015 WR Christian Kirk has been hearing from the Wolverines for quite some time in a limited capacity but the Arizona native will get a chance to check out the Wolverines in person when the team arrives for bowl week. The coaches have reached out to Kirk and invited him to attend a bowl practice as they prepare for Kansas State.

Kirk is probably a long shot at this point but he does have interest in Michigan. He is an electric athlete in space. While at 5'10" and 175 lbs. he doesn't fit the big receiver mold the coaches have been targeting, people who recently coached Jeremy Gallon can't be down about this kind of talent:

Watch his tape on youtube. It's pretty impressive, either he's playing against some low level competition or this kid is blazing fast.

Saguaro is a pretty big high school, and there's quite a bit of talent in the Scottsdale area. Off the top of my head, I think there have been guys like Taylor Lewan, Craig Roh, Brett Hundley, Jalen Brown, Casey Tucker, Andrus Peat, Mark Andrews, and others from that area in the last 5 years or so. It's a pretty talent rich area right around Tempe/Scottsdale.

MaxPreps has a reasonably complete profile on Christian Kirk (HERE). For what it is worth, he is pretty productive - two consecutive years of 1,000 or more reception yards and 29 receiving TDs in that time. Further, in this last season, he also managed 825 rushing yards with 13 rushing TDs, part of his 2,331 all-purpose yards and 30 TDs for his junior year. Not bad at all.

if we can pull him in. I'd say it would be almost impossible without the opportunity to see the team in practices there. I'm sure Rich Rod will pull out all stops to get him and ASU will be tough also. Then you have the other elite teams too.

This kid can flat out play.  There's a place on ANY offense for these quick, slot receiver-types who can run well in space.  I think it's good to have a mix of WR's in any case - not just the big outside guys.

Seems like he'd be perfect in an offense like Oregon's or Arizona's, where he'd be getting the ball in space out on the edges multiple times per game. Not sure a Stanford-style ground and pound like Hoke wants to run would make as much use of him.

Looks extremely impressive. Dont give a damn how tall he is, athletes like that will win you games in the B1G.

That said, we do have a big time 2015 WR/ATH in our own state that I hope we put maximum effort/resources into. Thought at one point he was a MSU lean, seems we've made huge strides with Cole lately. If he decides to play offense, will come down to Mich/OSU it sounds like.
