Tommy Amaker and Brian Ellerbe won games....neither of the them built a Program. For the first time in god knows how long, Michigan won a tough recruiting battle in basketball with Max Bielfeldt. Since Beilein came to Michigan, there have been countless numbers of battles where Michigan came out the bridesmaid. Names like Casey Prather (Florida), Try Zielgler (CMU), Sir Dominic Pointer (St. Johns) and too many in-staters lost to MSU to name. Even though Max is not a Top 150, I was skeptical none the less. For whatever reason we just simply always lost when it came down to UM vs. Anyone else. The classic zero-sum game.
Getting Biefeldt wasn't even the biggest recruiting news of the week. I contend that this weeks headline was that Mr. Trey Burke was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball. Now here is an amazing trivia question:
Question: When was the last time Michigan got an Ohio Mr. Basketball? Answer: Easy-E Eric Riley - 1988
1988!!! Unbelievable!!! In fact, only 3 Ohio Mr. Basketball's have ever played for UM (Riley, Gary Grant & Phil Hubbard). So now you see the building of a Program
The 2011 Killer B's: Biefeldt. Burke & Brundidge. Oh yeah, I forgot one.....Beilein.
At press time, Harbaugh had sent Michigan’s athletic department an envelope containing a heavily annotated seating chart, a list of the 63,000 seat views he had found unsatisfactory, and a glowing 70-page report on section 25, row 12, seat 9, which he claimed is “exactly what the great sport of football is all about.”
