What are your thoughts on Dave? I have seen him in person a few times and his lack of explosion has me worried. I'm no great scout, but I'm not sure if he will be able to guard or break people down at the next level.
really good change of direction ballhandling, and one of the best shooters off the dribble in the country. Has a college ready frame right now, will contribute immediately. Will be a nice 4 year player.........3.9 GPA in the classroom as well.
Simi Shittu, plz commit. It'll make up for not landing Leviticus Payne (and Rojo /s).
So a class of:
DeJulius (#89)
Locke (#104) or Mosley (not in the 150)
Jerome Hunter (#30)
Brandon Johns (#44)
Ignas Brazdeikis (#36)
Would be pretty sweet and pretty reasonable (maybe outside of Locke).
Coaches need to slow play Pete Nance and Hunter Tyson and go all in on Jerome Hunter and Brazdeikis. If they nab Nance and Tyson in the next month without waiting on the other two, it'll be super annoying.
I doubt they'll take both. Assuming Johns does indeed commit, M could take one of Nance/Tyson and still take a SG (hopefully Locke), plus either Hunter or Iggy. That would be a really great class.
Seems likely that they will only take 2 combo forwards, so if Johns commits, that means it's either/or for Hunter and Bradzeikis. Not a terrible spot to be in - we're in the top group for both but not a clear leader for either, so it's risky to depend on getting them both.
Dang, Pete Nance didn't even make the 150 lol
I plan on doing a scouting/film eval similar to what I did for Livers in the near future. Nance is a developmental project in our eyes from both a physical and skill standpoint.
I see ESPN has him #68 overall. Maybe they are just basing this off of pedigree?
For reference, these guys were very down on DJ Wilson too. Kept calling him a "waste of a scholarship" over on the UMHoops board.
Everyone makes evaluation mistakes, coaches included. But DJ's potential was obvious in his high school film. Had natural length, a nice looking jumpshot and plenty of athletic ability. I was high on him and thought i had that one wrong when he looked like Bambi during his Fr year. His development trajectory was pretty crazy.
Hey Matt, I'm interested in your ranking of Johns at #44. From what I've seen, that ranking doesn't reflect your personal opinion. I'm interested in that and how many voices went into making the ranking.
and that was the holdup with him last year. He's a legit 6'8, has good athleticism, a nice stroke and is now a plus rebounder. Functionally, he's a bigger, more athletic version of Livers that rebounds better.
There were 2 voices that went into our rankings, and without disclosing numbers, I was much higher on Brandon than my colleague. That said, 18 is one of the weaker classes we've had in quite some time, and Brandon would likely be a 60s type in any other year.
Sam said this morning that his gut tells him that Johns will pick Michigan. Johns doesn't have an announcement scheduled right now, though.
Really hope that Johns' commitment means Nance doesn't get a spot (at least for now). It would just be dumb to close the door on Brazdeikis so quickly, especially when Iggy will decide by the fall from the sounds of things.
OK dude, you don't like Nance.
Hunter and Johns would be a very nice Forward combo for this class! If we get those 2 then I will not complain about picking up Nance.
Website looks nice by the way!
we're just getting started in terms of the website will ultimately be.
In terms of our class, if we can manage to pick up both Johns and Hunter, that is a top 10 class hands down with Dave already aboard. Three top 100 players, two of which are top 50. Add it a developmental project like Nance for volume and you're looking at a 5-8 type class.
Give me Johns, Hunter and iggy and we can figure out rotation later. Though I could see Hunter or Iggy not wanting to commit to a logjam at the 3/4 spots (though Hunter could play the 2 IMO, with some targeted skill development).
Hunter is the best shooter of your aformentioned group, and frankly a better shooter than anyone on our board exclusive of Noah Locke. Jerome can play the 2, 3 or 4 spots and be equally effective at any of them. He's that good in my opinion.
